Hi all, im an original ofp hardcore addict player/mission creator and have revisited the unique world of bohemia's A2 and OA with much exictement! i have had no net & fallen behind in the addon department. No more cable broadband of 20gb /mth, on prepaid now $30 for about 1.3gb. anyway enuff life story ;)

Basically i am asking if some kind gentlemen could put major addons needed for missions/online play & creation/editing on cd/dvd as i cant afford the download atm. i will donate coinzors to your PayPal for your efforts.

Addons needed:

ACE combat environ (all files)

Latest Islands (+duala latest)

Mods/scripts or any other addons that u think i need! (to create missions for all)

PMC & BAF (i dont know much abt these addons but i c them alot!)

BTW i have A2 and OA both instaled as conbined ops! OA v1.52

ps: i have several missions @ final tweak, just need to add briefing (which i struggled with recently, is there a briefing manager tool like in the old days?

Pretty sure you need 1.57 to use ACE/CBA these days due to the number of new commands that have come out as of late.

On top of this you can "BUY" PMC/BAF from Amazon on a disk... so not sure what's stopping you?

I don't think it would be legal for anyone to take someone else addons, put them on a cd, and sell it to you.

Sucks about your internet... your going to need much download capacity to really get many addons.

I have moved house (no net for few months) and am behind and it will take months to download on pre-paid. and yes how sussssss am i forgettting to mention latest patch. Why did i bother with such arrogance, this is why i dont upload my missions.

I myself in the past usually download just about anything for the game, and would create an addon disk for any1 who asks! A $2 dollar DVD BIG FDEAL!

Nobody can send you the DLC versions of BAF and PMC, as that would be illegal and stealing.

I am actually in the same predicament as you, except I'm so far in the boonies that no ISP comes out here, so no net ever. I found a loophole using my Verizon phone and an android app, which allows me to surf, download, even play ArmA (and other games) online. If you have an android phone with an unlimited data plan just say the word & I'll tell you how to set it up.

If not, (most likely case) then a CD or your local library+flash drive/external harddrive would be the best bet. If it comes to somebody sending you a CD, I simply have one question....

If you can't afford BAF/PMC... why would you be asking for someone to send it on a disk when you know full well it's a paid for product? ACE etc is acceptable and I understand that, but what you're asking RE: PMC/BAF sounds like the typical piracy garbage new users come out with.

Well, several things.

1 - Your in Thailand? (Also, $23 for CO? Damn lol)

2 - Insulting people who are only trying to help you will not get you far here

3 - Seeing as there are alot of people who are in the same situation we are in (I know atleast 1 person in my group), I might end up starting something with this idea (CDs full of addons), but bigger. CDs are pretty damn cheap these days, and (I admit I have been falling behind) i try to keep an updated copy of every addon on armaholic/arma.info on an external harddrive. It wouldn't be hard to open a paypal, buy some CDs, some envelopes, and start sending em out. Of course I need to find a job first, but that hopefully won't take too long.

No, I'm not saying I'm planning to make money off of addons, or ArmA.

@Darkhorse 1-6, that sounds like a good idea (starting a service where people can purchase a DVD of the most popular addons). It would be a nice charitable contribution to the community, as many do with their time when making these addons.

The only problems I forsee would be if the service became really popular. Then electricity and DVD costs might become an issue. Probably the biggest hurdle would be international shipping costs and maybe customs charges (don't know if that applies for a low priced dvd service). But if a PayPal account was opened that people could contribute money to, like a charity, maybe the few dollars contributed would cover all expenses.

I like the other idea of the USB flash drive and downloading addons from the local library better, as it's simpler.

Either way, you and the OP bring up a good point about internet access for people who are financially challenged at the moment. In a sense, none of the addons are free and in fact some of them (especially huge downloads like ACE2, Isla Duala, etc.) are so huge that they require a broadband account to download. Depending on one's internet access plan, the download costs for those addons would be equivalent to purchasing a game from the clearance bin of a physical store or even a full game. The only difference is that money doesn't go to the developers unfortunately.

I worry occasionally about download sizes - not because I don't have adequate download capability, but from a mod-making perspective... it's easy to just keep adding things, then you realise your upcoming addon could be pushing 1gb and start thinking... "jeez - that could put people off downloading"... which is a bummer for everyone really...

If it was done in a clearly legit way, maybe someone like Armaholic could offer a "order a CD/DVD" service... charge enough to cover delivery costs, admin and perhaps even clear a tiny profit... Armaholic in a sense are the community... they're by far our biggest communal repository of addons, they provide a downloading and hosting service without even being asked for virtually every addon and mod thats released, hosting space for mod websites, ftp space for mod developers... we, or at least our work, are all represented one way or another by Armaholic, and they do it all for free... I'm fairly sure the community as a whole whould be happy to trust them, and from the point of view of those ordering stuff - they know they're a trusted source of latest versions of virtually everything thats ever been released...

... and they won't send people BAF for free, no matter how nicely they ask... ;)

What if the person who wants it send an empty DVD by mail to the person who burns it with requested addons? If in addition to that a pre-franked letter with the requesters adress on is added there will be no borderline problem regarding "selling addons".

It will also be much easier for the person who are doing the favour.

+ if anyone is stupid enough to try to give away their BAF or PMC; it wont work as they are protected so save the disk space. The lite version is included in the latest patch anyway.

@Bushlurker, Armaholic isn't run for free. They sell ad space on the site to pay for hosting and other expenses. Free for users, but they aren't doing it for free. But that small detail aside, that's a good idea. Not sure if they would be willing to open the potential can of worms as I could see modmakers getting angry about it even if Armaholic didn't make a profit (or if they donated all profits to a charity that would help veterans or their families).

I think he means that IF you sold a DVD to someone containing any content that is NOT yours then you're liable to gain authorisation from the parties involved in producing content on said disk.

This can usually be avoided by "GIFTING" the item, but sale is just that, you can't sell something that is not yours.

Yeah - now I come to think about it more closely, with BIS trying to be so careful with their licensing and permissions - and recently equally keen to encourage us amateurs to be equally permissions and licensing-aware, I can see how even such an innocent redistribution of stuff could cause just so many issues it really seems far more trouble than its worth, just to cover the few people without adequate internizzle (there we go! :p) access...

Ask a friend or swap a disk is the best bet I guess...

He just wants to play the game with the new addons and his internet doesn't allow for it. I'd help you out, but I'm really lazy and the post office isn't very close to my house :)

That's just it. The person wouldn't be paying for the content, they would be paying for the cost of 1 CD/DVD, an envelope, and the stamps needed to get it to the person.

@Bushlurker - the local library here has a "nazi"* internizzle policy. You have to have an ID Card/Drivers license and be 18+ just to visit Facebook/email sites (no problem there) and they don't allow you to plug an external into their computers. :(

LOLz downloaded patch 1.57 last night and guess what, some1 must have snuck the paid DLC of BAF & PMC goodies deep inside :p

Even if it is just the LITE version that is fine.

Just need ACE and latest Islands, will need to do some research today. ( i have duala v.99 and i have dl'd it twice, my new mish needs the new duala)

Lets not turn my request into a court heaing fellas. because its a frutile debate, but fun all the same! At the end of the day if the addon makers of said addons (minus paid content;)) approve/agree that its fine then it should not be an issue. As its Public downloads that i was/am/mostly (well now anyway) requesting. So all you would be doing is saving me download data cost, which would be great.. HooAh
