LITE mission package!

Version: 1.6

Updated: 19.07.2012

by nkenny

Update

I am happy to announce version 1.6 fo the LITE mission package. This version sees five new missions added, and all known bugs fixed, including the incompability errors with Arma2 and Arma2Free. The mission statement remains the same. LITE missions are tactically challenging, and very varied, scenarios in snippets that take between 15 to 30 minutes to play. The missions are suitable for four to six players, with some variations. Have a glorious summer, and enjoy the missions in the cool evenings. :)

Regards,

Ken Mikkelsen

Mission Statement

Not every session of Arma2 needs to involve 'attack the island' or 'defeat the red hordes' type scenarios. Sometimes you just want to sit around with your regular gang and play some quick missions that still require some tactical planning and communication. Heavily inspired by the original scenarios built for Operation Flashpoint-- the LITE missions concept was born.

The key features of the LITE mission package are their small size, varied gameplay and high replayability. As their names suggest LITE missions are lightweight and are unwilling to sacrifice gameplay for realism of the Sit-and-wait variety.

CONCEPT

>> LITE missions are optimized for four players, but can usually accommodate more.

>> LITE missions have a 15-30 minute playtime.

>> LITE missions require some planning and tactical forethought.

>> LITE missions are highly replayable due to random insertions, extraction zones, and enemy patrols

Cheers,

Ken

Installation

Installation is simple. Drop the pbo files into your /MPmissions folder within your Arrowhead or ARMA2FREE directory.

The LITE mission package should in only require ARMA2. For best experience Arma2 Combined Operations is recommended.

The LITE mission package is specifically designed and balanced in respect to vanilla gameplay-- but use of your favorite AI or sound mod can greatly enhance the experience.

Ah fantastic. I've been looking for these type of missions right now as I'm trying to get some friends more involved with ArmA, we are all restricted on time and they get annoyed with all the waiting about and 10 min drives/walks to target. These will go well on our little private server I'm putting together.

Cheers

@Pathetics Berserker

That is exactly the envisioned purpose of these missions. As much as I enjoy epic milsim scenarios or semi-persistant gameplay-- sometimes I just want to GET ON WITH IT and have a tactical yet challenging 20 minutes worth of gaming that I can somehow fit into a busy real life. :)

That doesn't mean these missions are easy; planning, communication, and teamwork are all needed. With briefing and all-- expect around 15-30 minutes per mission.

Stk2008

Certainly! Though no ACE specific features are utilized each of these missions have been played through with ACE. On an advisory note the tougher AI means a more careful playing style should be adopted-- thus extending the expected gametime.

@Armaholic

Massive thanks for hosting (and frontpaging) the mission package.

Enjoying these so far. On playing through the arty battery one though, the map tells you to go one place but the waypoint seems to be at the bottom-left corner of the map. No big thing... just takes FOREVER to get there in a CRRC. Well, it would've taken forever, if the hind hadn't killed me haha. Good stuff tho!

Hi played a few of these last night and there great.

I played them on me just set up dedi server :) but I run ACE2.

There was one thing I spotted not sure if its missions or my end but the AI really cant seem to hit any thing there aim is terrible.

Did you dumb the AI down to make for longer fire fights?.

Thanks

Hi MckENNNY

I really enjoy your missions except for a couple of things. First I really like the small team action and the overall objectives. I like to roam a bit and ambush road traffic and patrols before carrying out the main objectives.

What I really hate is the helicoptors which I feel unbalance and somewhat spoil the atmostphere.

i'd prefer that you got rid of them altogether and replace them with more random patrols and road traffic. Also if you insist in having helicoptors , the special forces guys should at least be able to have an AA capability option in the gear options.

Anyway I really like your concepts .Perhaps you could have a mission where special forces could ambush random convoys along the roads of an islands with small arms and or mines...mines are also not in the gear option.

Anyway your missions are the best for me at the moment... I realy hope you don't mind my constructive criticism

cheers, IMPI

Ho there McImpi,

Glad you liked the missions, I enjoyed making them. Definitely must say you've got the right approach-- doing some legwork, scouting out the area, and generally mapping out the enemies abilities pays great dividends once you conduct your assault.

Now as you note there are some maps where the enemy has helicopter patrols but usually, if you are careful, you won't attract their attention. More to the point if you look around a bit each map contains either a direct or indirect counter to helicopters. ;)

There are two reasons why I've (so far) avoided making mines available. Firstly there aren't very many armored vehicles rolling around in my maps (and I want the few there are to have an impact on your decision making). Secondly mines are 'fire and forget' weapons. The advantage, from a purely game design point of view, of the satchel charges is that they require player input and often teamwork to utilize.

Thanks for your input :) who knows-- maybe there will be a convoy mission in the future.

Hey,

your missions are quite good - I really liked the fast action, the good performance and the restricted gear selection.

Hope you'll keep up the good work!

Edit: I've noticed a small bug within the "rubberboat" mission --> ai-soldiers don't follow orders (assigned by their leader) correctly, for example they don't move in formation with the leader.

Hi there Velocity,

Will most certainly do so. :) I'm afraid the AI issues may be inherent BIS bugs as I've not experienced anything like in in my playthroughs. How exactly did they (the AI) not follow formation and were you using the latests betas?

Hey,

yes I'm using the latest beta, nevertheless this problem should relate to the fact that all "players/ai" have the same rank - therefore they might follow your direct orders but they won't follow you in formation. Just give it a try - load the mission, move to the beach, unload your troops (AI) and try to give them the command "move in formation with me". You'll see they won't follow you although the will follow direct orders as "move to that tree" oder "attack that soldier".

Will you include more missions in your next release?

Also you might add a winning condition for each of your scenarios - I really like to have the green mark for accomplishing a mission in my menu ^^

Good mission pack there, very recommended!

Shows that a simple mission can still be fun to play, it mustn´t be a uber-Domination-clone :bounce3:

That's very much the truth - there are a lot of missions out there which offer huge, complicated scenarios and unfortunately demand a lot of time. Therefore I really appreciated this pack and recommend this one to everyone who seeks fast-paced, linear missions.

Nice, I was looking for this, but SP. If I put them in the SP Missions folder will I be able to play them?

SP? Certainly. The prefered way is to put them into your MPmissions folder and then start them as a local LAN game. In this way you can customize how many of the AI you wish to bring with you.

Well actually the REALLY prefered way is with a bunch of mates in an online or LAN environment. All you need are two or three people and 20 minutes per mission. :)

There are more LITE missions in the works; its just that I've been lazy and enjoying just 'playing' arma2 online.

-Ken
