I would like to ask about HDR settings. I use normal and I believe that this has less impact in FPS. Should I disable it from the AO config and change it to 0?

Would it make any difference?

True.

No. 8 (normal) is the minimum. It won't let you go any lower.

Try an Nvidia graphics card. I had the same issues when I thought I was doing myself a favour going from 2 GTX 280s to an HD5970. Even with my modest rig I had the worst performance. Way worse than 2 less powerful vid cards. I switched back to Nvidia and I am in heaven even in Cherno. Pretty much 50-60 fps anywhere with anything going on and 30 solid in Cherno.

The problem you had there was the 5970 is multi GPU... Arma doesnt support Crossfire from ATI...

The ATI HD5870 is a Single GPU solution which works perfectly in Arma2. I own one and i knew a lot more guys who using the same card with a big smiley on there face. So dont worry about another Graphic Card.

Make sure you have installed every driver (Soundcard, Graphiccard, Motherboard) and make sure that none anti virus software is running its scan while you are trying to play.

There is an ingame VSINC Option.

Which Map are you trying? What are you using for showing your FPS (FRAPS?)? Make sure the video capturing of fraps isnt running ;-)

When you try it on Desert, you should get arround 70 - 100 Frames easely... otherwise another Software on your computer is kepping the CPU busy... Monitor your System usage and your temperatures. If the computer gets to hot, the cpu will downclock. Check those things to.

Just as a summery: Your Computer is more then sufficent to play this game on a high graphic level. Dont let anybody tell you something different! We just have to find out what on your computer is making you slow.

A freaking driver, a cluttered HardDisk, Heat, Unstable Overclocking?

Get us some details about your overclocked I7.. could be a problem too!

If you actually bother reading posts I was talking about PR, not standard BF2. The only program running in the background whilst playing is bitdefender antivirus. Im at work at the moment so I cant give specific map fps info etc.

@MadDogX

Thnx for the info i ll try that and let you know how it goes.

It helps to have a good defragger, if you can get one that allows you to specify that *.PBO files get outer-track priority then that will help. The other thing you must do is switch off your FPS displayer :) seriously, gameplay is gameplay in ArmA2, and fretting about FPS only distracts. Only when it becomes *actually* a problem ingame should you worry about it.

There are many other reasons why you will get reduced performance compared to other games, as ArmA2 does it all very differently to those other games. That said, you should get acceptable performance from your rig I reckon.

I had a 5870 and i had no problem with performance with arma so its not ati.

Anyway if you could do some arma benchmark with the settings used and say the results,it could help.

I can't get decent performance out of ARMA 2 with my 965BE quad core and 470. Built up areas sends the FPS into low 20/ high teens.

Pathetic.

Just to add my 2-cents because I recently upgraded to a 27'' Monitor (1080x1920) and it works fine all maxed out with my old cpu and 3 GByte RAM and quite old graphiccard - see spoiler.

yeh comes back to my point of the game seeming to have problems utilizing multicore cpu's past anything with more than 2. Like yourself having better performance with an older cpu and older gcard. I think its just down to poor design of the game and lack of forsight.

hmmm really strange (i want to buy second PC and i thought about quadcore AMD CPU + Nvidia 460 VGA) and now i feel confused after this topic

cause i can have even 42 FPS on Utes with few units in mission

on my much cheaper PC than yours

is someone with high-end PC has teens to 20 FPS... sorry , i am totally surprised, 31 FPS on Chernarus in big Chernarus city with some soldiers fighting is usual for me

now you can change your topic name to "mid PC required"

For me too.

Well there are forests on Chernarus that will bring your FPS to 20+, but most of the time I don't even notice how much FPS there is, I even FRAPS multiplayer games on my system.

Guess people just want to see 3 digit FPS'es because everything lower is apparently unplayable.

This. And it's especially funny when you consider that most people have 60hz monitors...

Well why not give arma2.exe/arma2oa.exe file just 2 core in your task manager under Processes, right click on the arma2.exe / or arma2oa.exe and then select "set affinity" then select just two cores... just a tips.. i haven't tested it.

What are your advanced video settings?

Makes no difference what they are. Built up areas kill my FPS. Tried everything including low resolution mods.

Couldn't have just answered his question?

Hell, why not provide some more logical-to-include information too, like how often you defrag, what operating system you're running, how much HDD space you have left, etc.? Or were you just looking to complain rather than find help?

Ah nice give your customers attitude when they're annoyed after buying your product that does not work as it should.

I've given details before with another problem but I didn't get any help from mods then but I shall try again

965BE

470 260.89 drivers

Win XP SP3

2GB Ram

about 30% HDD left

Recently defragged.
