Do you guys fly with a joystick?

Recommended Posts

I'm using my MS Sidewinder with FF, old but still awesome. Wish there would be a way to edit the FF fx in ArmA2/OA though.

Saitek Cyborg X. You can find L39 action on my YT channel.

The KB+Mouse is more effective if you're pvping in copters due to reaction/feedback speed.

Does anyone know if/where you can adjust the sensitivity? Driving with a PS3 controller is fine, but looking around is too sensitive.

In the controller settings themselves, never checked to see if joypads can be adjusted though. I use a 360 controller for movement myself, but I still use the mouse to aim.

You can certainly adjust the joystick sensitivity though, maybe the joypads are supported too.

I use a Saitek Cyborg Evo for flying, the pad is still decent but lacks the throttle control the stick delivers. There is no beating the hovering ability it gives you over the pad.

This is one feature sorely missed in ARMA2 [it was not implemented in ARMA either. I wouldnt have thought it would be all that difficult for BIS to add a "ForceFeedback Multiplier" to the controller options.

I have the same joystick, and there is no way to adjust FF. I have wound it up fully in control panel, but ARMA2 somehow kills its strength. Most flight sims like Wings of Prey have the option of adjusting it on the fly.

I hope BIS can add this in the future:j:

Thanks Frosty

guys sry for stepping in :)

so just to be sure I understood it correctly...

is there any way to map the throttle to collective and the stick to cyclic, so that flying AA2 choppers will become exactly like flying EECH choppers?

never mind instruments for now, I saw there is a mod out there that I would like to try (mod should include IHADSS for Apache), and whatever, flying a 2seat chopper by myself necessarly involves some minor compromise with reality.

but what I mean is using throttle and stick in AA2 the same way you would in EECH... sort of getting an (much) improved gfx EECH (again, let alone instruments for now :) )

I just replaced my logitech wingman 3D (which did not work at all with ARMA2) with a saitek X45 joystick. ARMA2 choppers/planes don't have targetting systems which makes target acqusition a nightmare and proper combat manueveuring difficult though.

I personally use a Saitek ST290 Pro with Saitek rudder pedals. If I am flying a C-130 or other yoke based airplane, I will use my Saitek yoke and throttle quad. One thing that really irks me is when you join a server only to NOT get a pilot slot, but by some rookie using keyboard and mouse. There is no axis on a keyboard and it's a hellish ride for the passengers. In my opinion as a skillfull pilot in the game you need to be smooth on the controls. I was in a blackhawk trying to lay fire down on an infantry line and couldn't get one damn shot because the helicopter was all over the place. A good helo pilot knows to use anti torque correctly at safe speeds so that you can yaw to open up a wider area for gunners to shoot.

I am a real life pilot, and I also fly flight sims alot. I enjoy both sides of the game, ground and air. My forte is obviously air, and if you cannot use your skills and situational awareness your just crippling your team.

I have been looking into mapping the throttle/collective right for joystick axis, the fde (flight dynamics) on these airplanes and choppers are quite damn good, the problem is that the throttle is using only 50% of the axis, there is a work around that someone had mentioned on another thread can't remember where I saw that.

edit- here is that thread. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=108410

I got use to the 50% axis throttle range after while. I don't think the the helo physics is quite right though - should be much harder to tilt the fuselarge. tilts like a fixed wing. I wish the RAH-66 was released with its snap turn feature - that was really impressive when I watched a video of it on youtube.

Future attack helos should have all weapons turreted and pointing side ways like the AC-130. Flying perpendicular to the target while attacking is best. oh yea sorry joysticks...right

Saitek X52Pro and TrackIR5

You can adjust axis sensitivity in the contoller options.

kb + mouse makes it very hard to use all axes together and no variable input on yaw (X&C) makes it very jerky.

Doesn't get better than that... ;)

I'm just using an old Saitek AV8R stick w/ throttle (twist stick for rudder simulate). Like previous poster, I have thrust analog mapped to the throttle + axis and braking to a key.

I fly with a Saitek X52 Pro, and the Saitek Rudder Pedals, but I'm a flight sim nut, so that's what works for me.

I do recommend it if you want to make your flying a more realistic experience. It IS harder to control aircraft than with a keyboard (the key commands have an auto-stability AI attached to them), but it's a much more gratifying experience to do a strafing run with the A-10 and spraying left and right by rocking the pedals back and forth :)

Cheers
