Operation Gothic Serpent

Hi guys. Here is my first campaign.

I released it on armaholic.

2004: the Marines have retaken Fallujah during the operation Phantom Fury

2005: the Rangers arrive in Iraq to relieve the Corps

Features:

Campaign of 10 missions

Urban combat

Whole mission "Irène"

Play different characters

Note:

I was alone to make the mission, so there might be some bugs.

Most of the campaign is about Irene

It took me 3 months to do it, some feed back would be appreciated so that I know what to improve or correct for this campaign or the next one.

IMPORTANT: the mission Irene takes quite a while to launch (about 1 minute) because of one big file in the mission folder. Don't panic, the game is not crashed, just wait and the mission will start

Changelog:

v1.5:

-fixed: M5 blackhawk didn't move after dropping the rangers

-deleted: smoke in mission 5 and 6to gain fps

-changed: M5: made a smaller convoy

v1.4:

-removed M9 from Mike Durant in mission 7 - he shouldn't remain stuck now

-mission 5 the marker of the target building is now on the good spot

-minor fixes

v1.3

-fixed: in mission 6, the D-boy now gets in the MH-6

-minor fixes

-fixed: civilians cars don't mess it up in mission 2

-fixed: mission 2 ending works properly now

-Added indication in mission 2 : you need to go to the check point and park the car.

-Changed a few stuffs in the briefings.

-removed addon NIM Dynamic weather

-removed addon Bell Helicopter from the "mission.sqm" file (addon was not needed in the game, but was still in the file)

Hey Wiki,

Thanks for posting up a new campaign! However, speaking only for myself here, I do not download anything with out some sort of explanation that details what the mission or campaign is about. This should accompany it on the opening post. I am fairly certain their are others out here who have similar thoughts on this as I do.

Could you please post more info in your opening post as soon as time permits.

I'm enjoying the campaign so far but I haven't got to the main part yet. I've encountered an issue with the third mission. My helicopter clips the comms tower near the LZ frequently. You might want to give them a flight path that heads towards the river and then to the LZ so they avoid flying too near it at speed.

You might also want to disable the BIS conversation system since it clashes the dialogue you have with your fellow soldiers. This code in the init.sqf should disable it IIRC:

player setVariable ["BIS_noCoreConversations", true];

On the second mission I wasn't aware I had to drive to the CP so a mention in the briefing, a marker on the map or an in-game hint that the player needs to do that would also be good.

I'm looking forward to playing through the rest of it. Not much SP stuff for the Fallujah map and on that basis alone it's worth playing.

Hello,

really nice work so far, only problem is:

campaign crashes at start of 'Irene'; it´s loading the mission but when the loading bar is full it just stands there and nothing more happens.

I have to kill the game using taskmanager.

Any idea for a possible fix?

edit: nothing about possible missing addons in my RPT either

performance is superb for such a huge city map :D

dont worry, the game is not crashed, just the mission that takes time to launch

At the check point levels I sat there for 10 minutes doing absolutely nothing. Nothing happened. No attacks. No car bombs. Nothin.

when you arrive at the check point, have you spoken to your sergeant? he is at the table. do you do what you are ordered to?

if yes, maybe something will happen...or not

waiting for nothing is also something soldiers do

I had some troubles because of that annoying 'pistol bug' (when AI switches to pistol and becomes immobilized) but that´s not your fault :p

If you control them you can at least unequip pistols but it can be a real plotstopper like in mission7/ the sacrifice:

the pilot can´t be get into safety because of above mentioned bug;

bad thing is you can´t switch to him and ordering him doesn´t work...

Very good cinematic atmosphere overall, felt like replaying the film at its best moments :D

ok, the two cars came by.

did the drivers got out and went to check it out at the desk of the CP?

if yes, you should wait a little bit, something should happen.

if it's not the case, maybe there is a pb, so the only way to pass it is to use the "endmission" code.

i'm gonna check it out asap.

question: are you using some mods or addons in addition of those required? maybe it can cause troubles

Just so you know....Gothic Serpent was the operation in Mogadishu, Somalia that cost the lives of 19 Rangers and Delta Operators....Operation Phantom Fury was the battle of Fallujah...

I know what's what.

it's just that there was no Mog map, the only urban big map was fallujah.

so, i decided to set this gothic serpent campaign in 2005 in fallujah.

Well, I'm on the third mission and it's been intense urban warfare all the way.

No complaints from me.

Enjoyed calling in the AC-130. Yours was the first camp I've seen incorporate it.

Was a blast to watch it wreck havoc.

Soldiers of Valor (published a month ago, I think you played it) had it in the 4th mission, too ;)

I also get the problem on mission 2. Two cars come to the checkpoint get out talk and leave but as they leave they crash into the railings and turn around and drive off in the direction they came. most of the time they drive down the street to the left and of the checkpoint and park by the bridge. I have ACE 2 and SLX active. So far i love the campaign. I will play the rest and tell you what i think.

hum, I think it's because of the mods you have. I've tried without ACE, and I works properly.

however, can you finish this mission 2?

I get same problem, at checkpoint,nothing happens after the report about a smoking helicopter going down.

yea i suspect its SLX as it causes problems with missions sometimes as it makes the AI smarter or sometimes dumber as in this case. I could not finish mission 2 without the endmission code.

ok so i went back and played it again without SLX but with ACE2 same thing happened with the cars, but instead the mission ended without anything happening after the cars and the chopper dialog.

Man, it doesn´t make sense to just give the pilot a MP in mission7/sacrifice without removing his f...n pistol cuz he´s still stuck with it besides the chopper and won´t move :(

Plz get rid of the pistols for unplayable AI.
