64-bit Executables Feedback
artisanal replied to Richard.biely's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
The results are excellent. Without 64 bit, playing with 12k view distance makes the game serisously choppy each time I turn the camera. Now it's seemless! Also, when you zoom in with a scope into a town/buildings, there's no more stuttering, which is also really really nice. Conclusion : when does it come to stable branch ffs ?!?! -
Interesting news in the last SITREP 00153 " BattlEye started kicking clients who took too long to download custom scenarios. This was temporarily mitigated by setting a longer timeout, but a proper fix is being sought. The silver lining is that these changes to the BE implementation lay the groundwork for support in the Linux and Mac ports."

Well the director of BI said this "#directx 12 in #arma3 : the question really is not IF but WHEN. Can not wait for it myself..." https://twitter.com/maruksp/status/580026066183544832

Good news people, the next patch for the port is nigh. Bad news is that it's version 1.54, not 1.56 :( But BI also reported that BattleEye support is most certainly coming.

We all hope that the linux/mac ports will get officially supported!

If remember correctly, ACE for arma 2 had also a FX component, which was pretty nice looking also. Maybe the ACE team will make this again for arma 3.

We only miss a sonic blast mod now :P
-
This mod is discontinued since mid 2015 ... the more arma 3 gets new updates the higher the odds that they'll "break" more features of blastcore. Hell, it's even a wonder that the mod still produces many of the intended effects.

Just fyi, the linux and mac ports are experimental ports (done by an external company called virtual programming). There's no confirmation from Bohemia whatsoever that there'll ever be a real port (i.e. with a better/faster support). Si I guess it's no real use to bash so harshly the work done on this project... And I'll add that these kind of reactions would rather demotivate than motivate to do better. Edit : And God knows I can't wait for the day when I'll be finally able to uninstall windows in order to go full linux :) Edit 2 : The posts which I was responding to have been deleted, or the account got banned.

That escalated quickly!

Guys, I think you underestimate a tad the developers (and editors). They certainly are aware that in the mid-long term it is a necessity to get rid as much as possible of the dependencies towards microsoft/windows. Thus, the tactical/economical value of developing the gaming market on linux is IMO pretty high. So I think that linux's gaming future is pretty bright, it is only a matter of time.

We are planning to update the experimental client port betas shortly after Nexus Update 1.54, so that players on Linux and Mac can benefit from all additions, fixes and tweaks as well. This will not be a simultaneous release, but we'll try to get it out reasonably soon after the Windows primary version. http://dev.arma3.com/post/sitrep-00128
