Might be my age, but I prefer the a2 vehicle handling to this in a3.

I’ve got no complaints about performance or how it looks, run it on mostly ultra settings on my old a2 pc. My only complaint is the ai, or ‘a’ as I like to call them now. In a2 it was fine, great ai made possible via great ai mods. Here in a3 its woeful, can’t play a proper mission really, just too annoying. So I just test and hope, well not all the time, I slip back over to a2 for some proper combat every now and then.;). I'm using many terrains in a3 at the mo, great lighting really re-news many of the old terrains, even the arma ones, plus of course the clouds help. However that’s all a waste of time if the ai, sorry ‘a’, isn’t sorted, give it the ‘i’ and lets get cracking... What are the chances of that happening....:rolleyes:..:(

AI for me, is by far the most important element in the game. It takes many, many hours to get the right ai, intelligent ai, for your game play. The main mod makers that I prefer for ai are gone from the community, but I’m really hoping there may be some new modders out there that may take up the challenge to give us great ai in Arma 3. BIS needs to be straight here, own up and say that they are stuck where ai is concerned, possibly even not that bothered. Just give whatever is needed to let mod makers do what has been done before, so certainly its possible. The game needs great ai, or its dead in terms of SP or many smaller groups that play against ai on a regular basis.

With AIA here & Nim Weather Sandstorm, Sand_wind or both. Could possibly look o.k. with the right lighting and effects, also different intensity of storms. Works fine in A3, not sure who made nim_weather though..:confused: -
If your used to really good ai and I mean ‘really good ai’ (modded) then you will be crying playing Arma3 at present, the ai is woeful. This is something they really have to get to grips with, haven’t yet throughout the whole series, where standard ai are concerned, always had to rely on modded ai for great game-play.

Always make me smile the ladders, especially wooden one’s with the metal sounds, great..:rolleyes: Trying to find the spot to get back on, as said, can be pretty painful.:butbut:.

Not sure they can, don’t think they know how. Without modded ai your really nowhere in this series. Problem is the best ai modders are hibernating, have been for a few years now, hope someone can find them and wake them up….;)

I put all my mod/addons onto one of my external 1tb hdd’s, leaving just the ai pbo mix I have in the actual a2 game folder. No trouble with pulling them off the hdd when needed for the game, no slowing down, lag or anything. PWS does auto detect more or less everything arma related (nosy). Anyhow, anyone not too sure what to do with 'Play With Six' concerning finding your mod/addons; Open PWS, top right of the screen open ‘tools’ then click ‘settings’, then go to the bottom of the panel that opens and click ‘Game settings’, here you will find the areas to fill in for your mod locations, packs etc, just alter to suit. There’s params there also but really unless you just need ‘nosplash’ & world=empty’ game params don’t seem to help much i.e. number of cores etc, it auto detects most things now.. May help some..;) -

Having been a big fan of the gl series (gl3 was slightly better than 4, imo) plus also slx, it has to be said that if these mods (unlikely), or something similar doesn’t come along for A3, then A3 may be just a good looking ‘shooter’.:( -

Not sure how far the support for having Arma content in arma3 is coming along for AIA yet, I can see arma2 content coming along well. Anyway I took some files out of the arma addons and left just these, I have put a number of community made islands with the official BIS islands of Sahrani, Porto etc, into a mod folder pointed PWS towards it and they seem to work fine with this setup, however. Its just a temp thing, until the support gets stronger for the arma islands. The lighting from A3 re-news these beautiful islands, especially sunsets, early mornings, also the clouds make a big difference. -
With ‘AIA’ mod now in A3 Alpha and the possibility to put series content over into A3 (those that work o.k.) without breaking any EULA, i.e. arma/arma2/OA and TOH, simple drag and drop mod and activate via ‘AIA’. I think this is as important as ‘caa1’ was to bring over arma content into A2, allowing players to get the best from mod/addons in the series (renewing perhaps). I like seeing mod/addons made a while back re-used in-game wherever possible, but understand the SWS issue, this is not what this is about. Just thoughts on taking content over, as said with nothing altered or changed just drag-drop and use, obviously with the help of ‘AIA’ Will we see a devide in the series whereas "this content is for Arma 2 use only", or will mod/addon makers embrace the possibility of this injecting new life into older, but still great, mod/addons.. I don't want this to break into a Steam Workshop issue/conversation, just the thoughts about using this as it is, completely outside of Steam itself 'mod wise'.. My personal view as above is, kju is doing really important and great work, to enhance the series and outside this series (BIS TOH) experience.. ______ I have not seen a thread in the Arma 2/OA thread here, sorry if this has already been listed..

Elitism/game snobbery, should have no place in any gaming community, unfortunately it does still prevail, but those who are, tend to get recognised pretty easily and quickly. The war gaming genre is many decades old, comes from all sorts of formats. Mod/addon/mission making is also decades old, again from many formats. This whole series is just 12yrs old, in the genre of war gaming its still very young. Many of the active members on this forum have a lot fewer yrs than that, the majority of active members on here being ‘2007/8’ or later, could be seen as babies in the genre, but that’s most likely not the case.;) Keep that in mind when thinking someone is new, who knows who’s new or a veteran of this series or the genre as a whole. Also, who is to say who is or isn't a talented mod/addon/mission maker... Respect and courtesy should flow both ways..:)

Bit of fun, just very easy to bring things over, with no performance issues (so far), lovely to see the crossover gaming, better than Arma-Arma2 was.. Edit: Reduced it to one showing two others below, as said just fun, performance is shown regards settings, costs me upto -25/-30fps recording, but overall fps is high (without recording), I have quite a few over into A3, working on more. Its exciting everything that’s happening at the moment, kju’s and sakura chan working on providing an, almost, complete cross over of games. Its only been out, what is it, four weeks or so, really early days yet. I can imagine some really great mod/addons effects being made for A3, plus hopefully buildings that disintegrate better, it looks really bright the future for the game. I was sceptical at the beginning, thought maybe stick with A2, which I will every now and then, but if things keep going the way they are for arma3 then it will be incredible, so we may just get the effects, that will portray the type of things you show in your pics (good pics). A lot of the effects in A2 were really good, spoilt a little by the fact the building really didn't react well to whatever hit them. Perhaps at some point it will all become available, down the road, who knows.. Anyway for me, it is all dependant on ai, far more important than effects, got to have really good ai, effects come later..;).

Your quite right, when dealing with a server, as you say, get the permission first. Although with the 'eula' provided, as long as its not money making, then there is no real need to, but its correct and polite to ask.. -
If your not very familiar with how to install mods, really you should try using a launcher.. find it a lot easier.

I am using kju’s at the moment and will be using sakura chan’s when released. They are not porting peoples work over, just providing tools to do it if they want. Provided everyone sticks to the eula’s given out with mods I can’t really see a problem if its for personal use. What kju and sakura chan are doing is great, I play lots of arma islands in a2, now most will be possible to play in a3, obviously as with arma to arma 2 islands there will be small problems, but provided your willing to put up with those then its good, just progression of content, I think.. I also loved caa1, great addition to the community. Will be nice to play Panthera in A3, if at some stage it can be.. -
Have to agree with that, I’m running this on my Arma 2 pc at more or less all ‘Ultra’ now. Started out at all high settings at 1200vd, which surprised me, wasn’t expecting that on my older system, then with tweaking and the dev version its gradually got to Ultra on more or less all settings and vd to where I normally play in A2 (1500-2000 on the ground, as much as you like flying). If your not getting reasonably good fps in A3, especially now in the dev version (getting better all the time), then you just won’t run it very well in the future. BIS can’t adjust for every system. In general gpu should be above 75% most of the time, if the systems setup right (gaming pc), I always monitor mine and its always above 80% and at 1500vd or less always above 95% most of the time (2gb oc'ed). Obviously if you open up the vd to 5000 or higher then the gpu use will go down some. The cpu for me is always around 75% average, can get higher or lower, but its never been a problem at that, was a little higher in A2, but its to be expected. At the moment, for me, arma 3 runs as well as arma 2 did on the same system with really good fps. All this rubbish about AMD not being up to it, Intel’s being better, well just doesn’t stack up in the group I play, there’s a mix of AMD & Intel and all are playing A3 with no problem (all gaming pc’s), I have AMD & Intel (sig). I had the slowest spec pc in my group for A2, never had any problems with it on high/vhigh settings playing arma2. I bought it for the type of missions I had in mind and the type our group play, max 300ai usually under 200ai with high-very high settings, so knew the spec would do the job, it did. I can put easily the same amount of ai on arma 3 now with this same system and as long as I don't meet all 300ai at once, its not going to be a problem. The type of missions we play, the max ai encounter would be under 50ai usually a lot lower than that engaged at the same time. Not into ww2 size battles, modern warfare all the way. Only complaint I have now is, I started to believe the hype around A3 and bought ‘a better’ pc to run it, way back before release, when in-fact I needn’t have bothered, should really have known, mid to high end gaming pc will run either game (A2 or A3), very well..

I got the game when it first came out, the maps are really high quality imo, plus the units, vehicles, aircraft etc, that come as part of the package, they’re all great. I tend to agree with Gunter, its all about the Editor for this whole series and IF is part of the series to a degree. When playing a console game, you tend to get very little, campaign and that’s it, maybe a level you can unlock, thinking back now, long time since I played any console stuff (OFPElite the last), but on the whole console games were enjoyable. Now you pay £40-50 maybe for a new console release and get very little when put against IF, and IF is cheaper now because of the problems. I thought when it was released, then followed very quickly with the statement saying there had been a misunderstanding between AWAR and BIS regards mods etc, that the game was pretty much doomed, in-fact I was really hoping it would be A2 compatible (maps etc) to be honest, later on down the road, but still. I enjoyed making a few missions, haven’t touched it for a long while now, but the Editor was basically A2’s, so very easy to get around, and it did play well. I don’t play any campaigns, haven’t in the whole series. The first time I really got involved properly with the Editor was with OFPElite (orig xbox). It was a simple but fantastic piece of work, especially getting a lot of the basics into the xbox from a pc game, not an easy job. I had and still have OFP (pc) but never really got that involved, casual mission maker really for that. As said I have never played any BIS made campaign (been lost in the Editor) that’s all I really wanted, was the editor side. Moved fully into the series really with OFPE. That’s why, imo, it is worth buying IF, play the campaign if that’s what your buying it for, then make some missions, you can generate yourself several new games without much effort, simply by making a few missions. O.k its on its last legs really, support wise, but there is life out there for some MP if that’s what you want and I dare say missions will keep being made for it for some time. It stands as more than just a game, with the editor it stands head and shoulders above a game, as does each of the series it came from. I would happily pay £30-40 just for that, no campaign, just the editor, it’s a new game every-time you want one. I got Carrier Command when it first came out, think thats possibly the same, lagging behind, difference is it has support, but its o.k. don't play it now, but its there should I want a change, worth the money. Just bought TOH, didn't think I needed that, but with kju's new mod AIA, it really looks promising for cross-over content, more than is possible now, hope so anyway. Oh also TOHinds, then I believe there's a free DLC, so in for some serious cross gaming. Now wouldn't it be nice for that to have happened with IF. BIS, I wish you could have brought it into the family, IF, when trouble started, can understand perhaps that it may have been difficult or even impossible, but would have been nice, with cross-gaming, great opportunities.. IF deserves to survive, others involved, perhaps don't deserve the same, within the industry, but as a game and for the Editor its well worth having..;):)
