    Infantry Combat and the AI

That video has one WP and nothing else, the WP was for the vehicle to move over the mined area. The fire team was placed away from that area, but near enough to hear, over a small dune a few hundred mtrs away. They would have started to come over when the first explosion went off. They had no WP's, scripts or orders just placed as they are in the editor, modded ai however. But that’s what great ai mod/addons do for the game, if you haven’t seen it in-game, then your just not playing the series to its full potential..;) But there again, many don't play it to its full potential..:(

    Balancing?

In my experience of A2 and A3, both AI’s are pretty poor, however, A3 AI look worse as there was so much depending on them. It was almost of no surprise that arma to arma 2 was little difference, but its just plain disappointing that the A3 AI is so bad, considering there have been mod’s that sorted all these problems out, years ago. I don’t play using stock AI, haven’t done for many years now, but I don’t think the game is really aimed at SP now, more for the MP gamer market, pvp or mass coop shoot em up, where AI intelligence is of little concern. I know its gaming but its not gaming I and all of the players I know do, its what set the series apart and made it different, thats why the very talented mod makers made those AI mod/addons, they fully enhance the games potential, they saw it and players that use them see it too. Great thanks to those mod/addon makers for making the game special. Its not going to change that much over the next few years I don’t suppose, once it gets released proper and players pour in to play online MP, then the SP side is going to get more forgotten. Mod’s will have to save the day, but the mod’s I and all the players I know, plus those that contact me regards the mix I use, all use, or are starting to use, those mod’s just won’t be in A3, so we’re all, well, out on a limb really, those mod makers have all left it seems.. Its really just evolution of the brand if you like, it was inevitable that they went more towards the market they are moving toward, that’s where the business sense decides they should go. I know I get members saying I moan about AI too much, but that tends to come from the gamers side more than the regular (hobbyist) series players. Its o.k. talking about scopes and if a gun looks or sounds realistic or not, but what’s the point, if you play against AI to any degree, your not going to get a realistic game anyway, far from it, doesn’t matter what weapon your using. Its fine if your team/group are playing other groups, just if your team plays against AI or your playing SP, in-fact AI is needed in almost any situation in-game, either to fill in, make up numbers, or be the main enemy force. Still there's modded Arma 2, life saver.. Another moan over..;):p

    Infantry Combat and the AI

No good them worrying about cover positions when their deaf. They need to hear, A2 ai always hear what’s going on, well depending on mods etc.

    Arma using a projector

I run high fps anyway (lucky really), AA is set to ‘Normal’ in A2 with SMAA on very high and AA x4 in A3 with either FXAA or SMAA on Ultra (not decided which to use yet for A3), could go to High AA (A2) & x8 AA (A3) without getting into problems performance wise, but don’t need to, looks lovely, no lego yet.;). More or less everything in both games are at the highest settings, those that matter anyway, so that makes a big difference on any monitor.. Really enjoying it, so far..

    Arma using a projector

I have just moved from a 27†single monitor which was a really nice one (not had it long), upto a 42†LED tv (backlit). I’m buying a new one for our main tv (50â€), so got a good deal buying this from the same company at the same time, was going to use our old tv which is also a 42", but the wife wants to put it in the bedroom. The new 42" wasn't expensive but its got great features, the low response time sold it really. I have been looking around for a low response time on a large screen, most are around 8ms, some higher, this one is 4.5ms 1920x1080p. I have to say its like rediscovering the series, soo much more detail, only running at 1920x1080p but its fantastic. Using ‘Just Scan’ keeps the screen ultra sharp and with it being a tv, rather than a monitor, there are more things to tweak picture wise, you could tweak both ends if needed pc then tv, can get the perfect balance. Would definitely recommend a large screen tv for gaming. I read different views regarding this and that, i.e. you’ll have problems with lag, stutter etc, but not had any problems running missions, its as smooth as my 27†monitor was. Looks astounding coming from a smaller monitor, A2 & A3 both look absolutely beautiful. Performance wise, my card seems to like it better, same fps as my 27â€, flying is glorious.. I thought about triple screens and what have you, but went this route, sit around 6ft away from it and the experience is great. Will have a look at the game on the 50†when I get a chance and the wife’s out..;)

    Balancing?

I really love this series, been the best thing ever on pc, I hope its a great success for them, they deserve it. But it’s a turning point, for the players not BIS, they have to do what they feel best for their business. The players are the ones that need to decide where they stand with the new addition to the series. For now I will keep playing A2, its more realistic, doesn't look as good granted, but its the type of game I want to play. That may change over time with mod/addons or DLC's etc, but for now A3 is for a nice look around, drive/fly etc, whereas A2 is for realistic warfare game-play at its best, for me anyway..
  7. SLX did dismemberment and that didn’t look much good, it needs to be in there in some form. There was a mod being worked on for A2 but I think that’s stalled a little, perhaps maybe they were waiting for A3, not sure. The only thing I would say is performance, there are many players moaning now about the performance, the more that goes in the more the pc has to give. Tweaking whats there already, might be better than putting new stuff in. That said, I want them to concentrate on ai, but that’s unlikely too.:(

Will Arma 3 replace Arma 2?

So we’re at Beta stage in Arma 3, of course this has nothing to do with the A2 forum, but has with this thread. Arma 3 will not take over from Arma 2, I said a while back, not sure if it was on here or on another forum, that I suspected A2 will be for the connoisseurs of the series in the years ahead, whereas A3 for the new faster breed, I think that may be the case unless it progresses along in Beta at a pace of change, which I doubt.. Arma 3 looks better, but it just isn’t better where out and out warfare realism is wanted/needed, its moved towards the centre ground if the beta is anything to go by, therefore we have waved goodbye to the old arma format, a new era has begun.. IMHO.. Not a bad thing as A2 is already pretty honed as a game, the ai I use are exceptional and the overall performance is great, so is there a need to move over, well not really, although I will go over to see the new islands that are bound to appear, a3 is stunning with its lighting effects, sea & ambient feel. But is that enough, certainly not for me, its got to be about game-play and A2 is winning hands down at present, with no view for a change coming. Arma 3 has only just started and A2 has lots of years behind it, I hear you shout. Thats true, but A3 has set its precedent and that was moving towards the centre ground i.e. mainstream, not fully, but almost, which could cause them problems later on down the road. The game seems to be in a grey area at present, it doesn’t look as good as BF3 from what I have seen of BF3, not got BF3 myself but on YT, its not as fast as BF3, almost frantic rate, again by what I see. So where does it stand, like the series, I would say, on its own. But unlike the previous inc A2 which all had a cause, to bring intelligent, open world, do anything, warfare gaming to the pc. Instead its in-between and as said its finding the in-between players to go with it.. Its stuck between mainstream and the place it left behind.. So don't hang up A2 just yet..;) I love the series, so I'm not really dissapointed. I have the best of both worlds, as do most if they want, go into A3 to see the sunsets, swim and generally look around, come back to A2 to play war..
  9. Few things: Ghosthawk UH80, doesn’t seem to be firing Striker, seems to float a fraction off the ground at the rear AI, still woefully bad..:( The large truck, can’t remember its name, has virtually no suspension room, top of the tyre to arches at front, considering the suspension drops quite far, looks a little odd not to be able to go up that far if it hits a hump/lump/whatever, through the wheel arch perhaps..:D All in all the A2 vehicles are better, suspension wise (third person view), for me anyway.:p. Still, nice to see the sub, after being destined for A2 as a mod, I seem to remember a while ago.;)
  10. Just below here is my fps/performance @ 1000'ish vd, at these ‘quality’ settings: (on the ground, may help others decide settings) Airfield fps Country fps Town fps Country + trees fps Rig spec: here, it is my pc1 (Arma 2 pc), not put it on my pc2 yet, not sure if I will now, will wait for Altis, then I may need to.;). My other settings: 16:10 @ 100% or 16:9 @ 100% only +/- 2fps in it.. V-Sync = Disabled PP = all disabled SSAO = Disabled Caustics = Disabled FSAA = x2 ATOC = Trees PPAA = Disabled AF = Ultra __________________________________________ Below here are the hit values to the above settings: @1500 = -1fps, @2000 = -14fps, @3000 = -39fps.. @12000 = -80fps PP: Hit values Bloom = -5fps from 2 to 200 (no intermittent hits) Radial Blur = No Hit Rotation Blur = No Hit Depth Of Field = -8fps from 2 to 200 (no intermittent hits) SSAO = -17fps @ standard and –40fps @ Very High Caustics = -3fps when Enabled FSAA = @x4 = –4fps, @x8 = -15fps ATOC = No Hit from @trees - @trees and grass PPAA = FXAA @ Ultra = -22fps, SMAA @ Ultra = -10fps AF = No Hit _________________ So overall BIS, great consistent performance fps wise (for me, sorry to those struggling), there has been a gradual performance/fps rise with each dev build and now in Beta the performance is still great. Congratulations on a great Beta release performance/fps wise, for me:), others will give their findings soon, I dare say;). Now to try everything included in the Beta inc ai changes if any..
  11. I don't play or use any user made content other than my own, made for the group I play in, also myself of course (SP). All based on a GL4 format, using GL4/SLX/Zeus/TPWC parts (pbo's), to get a really great mix of ai. Look at some of the vids I have (sig), only tests, but they will certainly give you an idea of how the ai react/behave, with no scripting, just WP. Regards suppression, isn't TPWC already across and in A3 (I think), not using it myself because I'm not making missions for A3 just A2..;) Back on topic, I haven't played the scenario mentioned, so don't know really, it could perhaps show A3 ai in a slightly better light, the OP seems to think so..
  12. Its difficult, because really you have to make missions to really get the best out of the series, or at least play missions that have been made with ai mods in mind. The ‘Editor’ is the series, for me and many others who more or less live in there. The thing is, missions using ai mod/addons, designed right, will give open world environments, as we have and enjoy so much, in the series, open world missions. These are really unscripted, where the ai is governed by its own decisions, not scripted by the mission maker. This type of mission will easily match playing against other human players, our group play against ai most of the time, intelligent ai, I understand you don't think it exists, but it does, just have to look for it. Its all possible and available, but at the moment its all in A2 not A3.. But one thing is for sure, this series has the best ai available, just that its modded ai that you have to use right.;). If it arrives in A3, is yet to be seen..
  13. I would book, but I don't think they have built the hotel yet.;). Nice video.. _________________________ Edit: Quick look around..(running in dev version). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-B7dkHbkTA
  14. If you use modded ai, then that is of course the best you can get, better than any other ai available to pc gaming, imo, certainly the A2 ai if using a well tested mix of mod/addons. However, spawning ai in missions doesn’t work as well, they tend to be spawned with stock ai behaviour. I rarely use spawn for that reason..
  15. The lighting really does set arma 3 islands apart. Really nice islands, thanks for sharing them..:)
  16. Your right, I was referring more to the mod than the players that play it and progress on from that to arma. :p Any of those young fellas know how to make an ai mod...;)
  17. Smookie, yes, great for movement.. The ref I made is, the ai in A3 being the zom………, doesn’t matter, just a return nod. Who cares about dayz! Mod for zombie lovers, nothing to do with arma as a warfare game… Great they have the open world to kill their prey in, similarity ends.. I’m holding out, however slight that hope, for BIS. That would be why I asked the question.;).
  18. It looks good, movement, lighting, sea etc, etc is fantastic, but there are a huge amount of games that look good/better, but they lack the one thing this series has/had, serious realistic warfare game-play, you need great ai for immersive gaming like that, where are you going to get it from ? Prior to now it came from the mod makers, but the best ones have long gone. I don't want to shoot zombies, they don't make me shake, freeze or breath heavy, but A2 does with its totally immersive warfare game-play, but that was with realistic ai, thats gone for A3, seems like BIS didn't want to learn from the great mod makers that left.. Is there any serious work going into the 'ai', or is it still going to be cosmetic ? Making them move like they are intelligent, isn't going to work, just play against them..
  19. Aren’t rolling the small cargo boxes around with a vehicle ‘PhysX’, or am I way off here.. I was rolling some down the runway before..;)
  20. The card is a little on the weak side, what are the stock clocks ?

    Suggestion to iron sighting

Must say, I like it the way it is now. I tend to watch above the victim, if I don't see any impact and he's still alive it went low, raise your aim.. Besides, you'll soon get used to ironsights/distance etc..:)

    Haadur 40km

    Looking forward to it. :)
  23. I use the P780, stereo signal to the Dolby Pro Logic built into the headset, then Dolby processes the sound input there into 7.1. Sounds great the 7.1 dolby surround, sub woofer etc, can’t moan at a very reasonable price. Full test config/setup software included, nice and simple with really good sound.. The sound comes from where it should, which is all I need to hear.. O.k. isn’t like sitting in the middle of a 7.1 speaker surround setup (have that for the tv), but its near and keeps the wife happy, I can have it as loud as I like..;) Sound can reverse occasionally, just restart to correct, not sure why that is, but its rare and never had any other problems yet.:)
  24. For me. this one video sort of sums up how missed these mod makers are, this is their work. Not just GL4, although thats hard at work here, but SLX/Zeus, its a great loss to this community that GL4, Zeus & SLX are no longer supported and haven't been for some time. What they left us though, remains the best ai mods ever made for this series, of course when mixed a little and missions made using the GL4 format, you won't get better, more intelligent ai behaviour. They are, as they stand, unbeaten. Regards supported, not needed if tested regularly, they still work great (parts from these & another). Just by viewing this video I can see all of the mods mentioned doing something here, all working together to produce a better more realistic game-play, plus TPWC_sup is there too, another great ai mod/addon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-jfnAwHses&list=PLj7LIw2iwG-HBxjqFG4Y32YHKRMkz2AF-&index=90 Its all just imo..:) @ebarstad, pm me for the ai list used, if your interested..
