Hi everyone, over the next few weeks we’ll be inviting you to participate in conversations related to Arma 3 Contact’s “what if we suddenly encounter extraterrestrial intelligence” premise. Our first Contact Starter: In the event of First Contact, who do you think would make for Earth's best ambassador, and why? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in this thread!
-
And it's already time for our final Contact Starter (ahead of Arma 3 Contact's release): What is your favorite movie, TV series, and/or book involving alien life? Let us know your recommendations - here, and/or on Facebook, Twitter, and reddit!
-
Why have we not yet made First Contact with alien life? Where is everybody? Share your theory in this thread - or join the conversation on Facebook, Twitter, and/or reddit!
-
This week's Contact Starter poses a big question: How would a First Contact event change our current world order? You can also join the discussion on our other channels: Facebook, Twitter, and reddit.
-
Let's begin the new week with another Contact Starter: Do you think that humanity should try to make or avoid First Contact? Why yes/why not? As always you're also welcome to join this conversation on Facebook, Twitter, and reddit!
-
Hi everyone, here's the Contact Starter for this week: What do you think is more likely to happen: us finding aliens, or aliens finding us? Let us know your answer plus motivation in this thread - or, if you want, you are also welcome to participate in the discussion on Twitter, Facebook, and reddit!
-
Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts so far! Here's the next Contact Starter: What would be the most likely motivation for intelligent extraterrestrial life to visit Earth? We're curious to hear your theories and ideas!

Indeed, all further development of Arma 3 Units has been put on hold as our web developers now have other priorities. When we first started to work on Arma 3 Units, we knew beforehand that it was going to a challenge to fit into our schedules, which is why we planned to build it in three steps: step 1 (priority: must) - be able to create a unit profile page, step 2 (priority: should) - be able to have members via Bohemia Accounts and some modest in-game integration, step 3 (priority: could) - more elaborate features like being able to plan events. Although we managed to implement step 2, it unfortunately seems unlikely that step 3 will happen. Nevertheless, what started as a somewhat experimental side project really became popular beyond our expectations, and so I think we'd all wish to see such a platform be part of our future games. All in all, I'd say that Arma 3 Units is still a very useful way to more easily form or find a group with all of the base functionality being present. It might never leave 'beta', but we want to make sure it remains functional in the foreseeable future.
-
The three operations will be listed under 'Campaigns' in the Main Menu, but we felt that referring to Beyond Hope, Stepping Stone, and Steel Pegasus as campaigns would lead to expectations that they are of similar scope/length as e.g. "The East Wind" campaign. Hence 'military operation' seemed like a more appropriate description, and I think it's also a more accurate word for what you'll be playing . Plus, hopefully it helps convey that you'll be fighting as one of several armed forces participating in a large-scale military operation. Nevertheless, we're indeed introducing a new word for something, and I can understand the confusion.
-
It's seven scenarios across three military operations (plus you can indeed replay some of the scenarios from different perspectives).

Can you please send me or BohemiaBeck a DM with the details of your unit so we can investigate?

Hi there, unfortunately we've had to built in a limit in unit size as it is otherwise causing the website's layout and performance. This was an oversight from when we originally built the system as we didn't expect there would be units with this many members. You will indeed see a few units that still have more members because they reached this member count before we implemented the size restriction. In any case, we realize that there are some edge cases where people would want to have more members than we currently allow, but unfortunately this is currently not something we can support. Apologies for the inconvenience! We'll look into the issue with searching people in the unit. That doesn't seem like the way it should work. Thanks for reporting! Hi there, what do you have in mind? I've reported it to our web development team!
-
Our web developer will be looking into the issues with admin rights as soon as possible. We'll report back when we have uncovered the issue or need more information. Apologies for the inconvenience!

I'm not sure if this will solve it, but it sounds like there might have been an issue converting your image to a file format that is supported in the game. As a potential quick fix, can you rename your unit icon image file and re-upload it to the Units website? Let's see if that does anything. Apologies for the inconvenience!

Hi all, thank you for reporting the issues you've experienced, and suggesting improvements for Arma 3 Units. For the past few months, and probably for the next few months, the development of new features for the service was unfortunately put on hold as our web team needs to work on other online services here at Bohemia Interactive. Nonetheless, we'll keep track of problems with the existing functionality and try to resolve them as soon as they pop up, and we still intend/hope to pick up development of new Arma 3 Units features later this year. Apologies for the delay, and thank you for your patience and understanding!

Hi Wiki, I think Prague is a great place to visit, and I'd say each season has its pros and cons, but none is really better than the other. If you go in Summer, you might have nice weather. If you go during December, you could enjoy the Christmas markets. In terms of what to visit, there are the usual tourist hot spots including Prague Castle and Old Town Square, both of which are cool to explore. For the rest, I would make sure to enjoy the local cuisine (and especially the beer) - and there's plenty of great restaurants around. Some of my favorite places that cook somewhat traditional Czech food are Husa and Zlaty klas - but that's also because I lived in that area, and I'm sure there are many other great places around. For the rest, I believe you can even go for a tour in one of the beer breweries - and I could recommend you to see if you can arrange a trip to the shooting range as it's generally not that expensive here (and they're a bit more flexible with the rules than for instance in my home country The Netherlands). Also, you might want to go to Petrin and Letna park for some great views of the city. For the rest, you can pretty much walk everywhere In Prague and sniff up the local culture, and the public transport system is excellent (just hop on a tram and cruise around). There are also some pretty stunning nature areas right outside of Prague, and you could probably even go for some cool mountain-biking or hiking trips. Sadly we don't allow studio visits as it would become too disruptive for development/developers. However, if you would happen to know some individual developers here, you can of course always try to reach out and invite them for a beer or two. Thank you for your understanding. Hope you have a great trip to Prague. Enjoy! P.S. If you have some more money to spend, and you're into Asian fusion food, then be sure to book a table at SaSaZu (and order the Crispy Roll - it's amazing) ;-)

Hi everyone! The year is coming to a close, and we're about to enjoy a quick holiday break. 2016 has been a phenomenal (and in some regards turbulent) year here at Bohemia Interactive. Arma 3 was reinforced by several major platform updates, leading to its pinnacle moment in development: the release of the Arma 3 Apex expansion. On top of that, we've deployed Arma Mobile Ops for Android and iOS, which lets you build a military base and fight for dominance with other players whether you're outside or at home. DayZ has also made considerable progress this year and is on its way to Beta. There have been some key advancements in its underlying technology, which will open the door to new features and content, and an even more enjoyable and rich gameplay experience. Have fun with some of the improvements by playing this week's released 0.61 version, and help us bring the spirit of Christmas to Chernarus! Our other Steam Early Access game, Take On Mars, is getting very close to reaching its "Gold" milestone. What started as a game about Rovers and Landers, now captures the exploration of the Red Planet in its entirety. Become the Martian in the newly added story campaign, and lead humanity's most exciting undertaking firsthand. The Release Candidate (RC) Update for Take On Mars is now live on Steam. In November this year, we also introduced "Bohemia Incubator". This new label aims to unite our experimental projects, and share them with our players. By doing so, we can work together to shape the future of our fast-growing company. The first two Incubator games are Ylands and Project Argo. Learn more at http://incubator.bistudio.com, where you can also find more info on how to play the Ylands free trial and/or the free Project Argo Open Prototype. But what perhaps stood out most this year was seeing how you as players and fans continue to embrace our games - by playing, streaming and watching, modding, producing content, forming community groups, reporting issues, providing feedback, and much much more. All with a passion that we can only be grateful for. Even though we face many challenges, often have to be patient, sometimes make mistakes, the question whether it's worth it can only be answered one way: absolutely yes! Together with your support, 2017 is promising to become an incredible year. We can't wait to pop some bottles, celebrate, and get started again. Thank you, and on behalf of everyone here at Bohemia Interactive: merry Christmas and a wonderful 2017!

Thanks for the interest! Aside from some more minor improvements, usability tweaks, and bug fixes, our priority is to change the recruitment settings, followed by the ability to post unit announcements and schedule events. Related to that we we're considering something like a "PLAY NOW" feature (which would work similar to something like a LFG website (e.g. http://www.destinylfg.net/), plus a proper notification and messaging system. The latter cannot be confirmed yet, as we're not completely sure if we have the time and resources to pull it off within the foreseeable future.

We've just rolled out a minor update to the Arma 3 Units website. Based on your feedback, the most important change is that we've uncoupled admin rights from unit ranks/titles. This means you can now be an admin of the unit, but still be assigned a lower rank in the unit (if desired). We'd still like to provide some more customization options to how the unit ranks/titles/hierarchy is displayed on the unit profile page, but there are some other aspects of the Arma Units website that we'd like to address first. Besides the change mentioned above, we've also implemented a few general usability tweaks, and we're continuously bug-fixing including issues reported in this thread. One more, perhaps controversial, change we intend to make soon is changing the Recruitment Status settings. Currently, a unit can be "open" (which means people can insta-join without any application or approval), "private" (you need to send an application that needs to be approved by a unit admin), or "closed" (nobody can join). In the near future, we are planning to remove the current "open" option, which will effectively remove the insta-joining option. As a result, there would only be two options: "Open" (application required) or "Closed" (nobody can join the unit). The reason for this change is that 1) we think having just these two options will be less confusing for the unit admins (as well as for people searching for units via the filters), 2) to avoid units that act more like Facebook Pages and stimulate some basic organization of the unit and its members. As always, let us know if you run into issues, or if you have any suggestions for how we could improve the existing functionality. Thanks everyone!

To provide a more in-depth perspective on development, Bohemia Interactive deployed a two-part series of developer diaries about the upcoming Arma 3 Marksmen DLC. Exploring the new weapons and supporting platform features, in the first . Arma 3's Creative Director Jay Crowe, Project Lead Joris-Jan van ’t Land, and Encoding Lead Petr Kolar discuss the vision behind the Marksmen DLC, its development process, and the contribution it makes to the Arma 3 sandbox. The second developer diary, which we released today, takes a closer look at the new showcase scenarios, training courses and firing drills, Virtual Garage, the new End Game multiplayer mode, and some of the experimental multiplayer systems. More info can be found on the Arma 3 website.

We are still resolving some issues. However, as a quick hack for now, if you have an existing unit on https://units.arma3.com (onewhich was created before the Arma 3 Apex release), you should re-upload the unit emblem PNG. The system will then automatically convert this to a PAA file so it can be displayed in-game. If you're a registering a brand new, it should work right away. We are currently working on a solution for the previously registered units, so that their unit emblem will also be converted to the appropriate file format retro-actively. Please note that to make any of these in-game features work, you first need to link your Bohemia Account and Steam account first (click here). Squad.xml is still supported in-game for those who want to use this solution.

Just to be sure, the 'creation date' is different from the 'unit establishment date'. The creation date is when you create the unit on Arma 3 Units and cannot really be abused to appear first on the page (unit establishment date could indeed have been abused). Hope I understood that correctly!
