RO2 also showed us how having tanks with fully animated and modelized interiors, that take three months each to make, can kill a game. Two years later RO2 still only has 2 tanks and no infantry carrier, while Osfront has at least 16 vehicles and 32 using Darkest Hour with still pretty good quality standards. When it comes to tank battle RO2 is pretty boring, it has nothing on Darkest Hour by any means, despite the fancy interiors.

[Utility] - Arma FOV Changer
dunedain replied to the_dmx's topic in ARMA 3 - COMMUNITY MADE UTILITIES
Isn't the vertical fov supposed to be narrower than the horizontal fov? That would explain why people have their aspect ratio distorted. -
Diaoyu Islands by Fromz - New Terrain simulation for ArmA3
dunedain replied to fromz's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Looks great, too bad you can't dig tunnels in the RV engine. Would be great for landing scenarios! -
Nah of course, but I think they are the perfect kind of games for that kind of time periods though. My opinion is that you'ld miss most of what ArmA has to offer by limiting yourself to melee combat and weapons whose effectiveness drops after only a few dozen meters. Although it's always refreshing to see working melee, muskets and bows through modding, I don't think an Arma game focused on that kind of gameplay could be great.
-
I'ld love a come back to the late 80's, early 90's technologies. Maybe set in the Horn of Africa with Rangers, the Delta Force, the French Foreign Legion and Naval Commandos fighting as BLUFOR against various Muslim factions as OPFOR, and the UN as Independant obviously. Not too fond of the current futuristic setting; actually even the early 21st century warfare featured in ArmaIII was getting too sophisticated for my taste. I have a feeling WW2 will always be covered by modders. As to melee combat and muskets there are games that are by nature much better fit like the TotalWar and Mount&Blade franchises. WW1 would require underground stuctures and ground deformation to be really interesting; and Arma in space wouldn't be Arma anymore.

I think most people are aware of that. However following defk0n_NL suggestion blur could be usefull to cover-up for the lower rendering resolution around the scope while still maintaining a better framerate than if you had an 100% rendering resolution on and off the scope. You'ld have your screen at let's say 67% rendering resolution while the scope with a rather limited fov could still benefit from a 100% rendering resolution. I dunno if it's feasible or not, and it kinda kills the interest of having PIP scopes for me if you can't discern mid and long-range movements in you field of view.
-
Isn't the point of having PiP scopes to maintain maximum situational awareness while still looking through the scope? If it's not possible to have PiP without tightening the fov and bluring everything to the point it's illegible, I don't see it being any better than BIS current solution for the beta.

Kiory's balaclava Expanded (more textures)
dunedain replied to Pomi Git's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Very good, I wish BIS would add an extra slot so you can mix this with glasses. :) -
Kiory's WIP Thread "Current Task: Scar Mk13* (May possibly to requests later on)

Very nice. Hope we'll see more soon! -
That may look like it because ArmaII has numerous variants of the same weapons, while on ArmaIII you can just drag, drop and combine a silencer, different scopes, IR laser or flashlights on a single weapon. Moreover ArmaII got much more weapons after one expansion and three DLCs. Anyway they are adding a third faction in the beta and already showed the F2000, the Negev, a new pistol that kinda look like a Browning Hi-Power as well as a new AA missile launcher and much more to come. You just gotta be patient... ;)
-
Well Insurgency, both Red Orchestra, Killing Floor, Battlezone 2 and Terminator: Future Shock from memory.
-
Logically it should even work better now, since having a custom fov shouldn't stretch scopes' textures anymore.
-
You could say the same thing about every weapons and vehicles in the game imho... Not the least concerned about authenticity it appears, but well it's their decision.

A bit disappointed about the lack of working bipods for the initial release. I hope they'll really work on it later as they said they'ld hope to. Same with ToH flight model, I really hope they won't give up the idea. I didn't have too high hopes regarding PiP actual 3D scopes. But the new 3D scopes will do I guess, still is a good improvement over the current solution. Overall it was a pretty good stream although the beginning was obviously the more exciting as they actually showed new content. Too bad about the chat being spammed by trolls... I probably missed a few answers from the staff because of that. Protip: Next time turn down the game's volume, couldn't hear anything they were saying while they were piloting the Comanche.

A faster paced ArmA - Insurgency!
dunedain replied to JetlinerX's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
What does it do better than the Insurgency mod? I wasn't too impressed by its realism back in the days. It very much felt like a slow paced CoDIV with free aim and more powerful bullets... Hardly comparable to Ostfront or ArmA. -
Well it's nothing like BF3... If you spent so much time on BF3, you may get frustrated pretty fast as Arma3 isn't an arcady run&shoot game designed to provide instant gratification. I'ld suggest you find a way to test it before throwing money at it. Although the game is pretty cheap and not quite ready yet, it will get gradually more expensive until the release at full price. You never played the original OFP Cold War Crisis or any of the previous Arma games? If not, I'ld suggest you download Arma2 Free. It's an impoverished version of Arma2, but should give you a taste of what this is all about. While it's downloading please do check Panimala's and Dslyecxi's Youtube channels. They both showcase what kind of gameplay you can get playing Arma games online. More like two on discount if EA feels generous... Well BF3 has no mods... But BF1942, Vietnam, BF2 and BF2142 had each a vast collection of mods and some of much better quality we ever saw in any Arma game.

Can you play Arma 2, after playing Arma 3 for a while?
dunedain replied to NeuroFunker's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I still like ArmaII more. ArmaIII is great but it's still is very much limited in content and it misses many things modders brought to A2. I'm not too found of the Aegean islands kind of environment, nor do I like the weapon systems in game so far. I like more authenticity which ArmaII provides even without addons... I wish now more than ever than BIS chose to focus on Africa and early 90's technology than anything futuristic. Moreover I still have some stability issues, crashes and huge framerate drops for no reason. I'm sure ArmaIII will sooner or later surpass ArmaII. But Right now, ArmaII is still is the superior product and ArmaIII very much an alpha. -
For the Steam version, the @JSRS folder must be in ARMA 2 Operation Arrowhead's directory.
-
Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if they made more sales. Like it or not people, but thanks to DayZ the ArmA franchise has earned a reputation among the general crowd. Alpha testers or not we all paid for the full game for half the price it will be at release. Armed Assault and ArmA2 were in pretty betaish state for long enough and yet many of us paid full price knowing how it was going to be.
-
Where in Steam do you see that number? Oh I see now, was using the minimalist layout and it actually takes time before it updates when you change it. Anyway it's definitely not the sales, but contributions in the Community Hub, "screenshots, videos and discussions"... I'm pretty sure sales figures are always confidential, only BiS and Valve know those numbers. The Community Hub is still a good hint of how successful a game is though. :)
