  1. Couldn't agree more with Mosh. MMA is not only one of the finest mods out there but its also one of the most compatible. Both in that its friendly with other mods but also with missions (it enhances rather than revolutionises). Prolly the only other mod that shares such rare qualities is the ShackTactical HUD.

  3. His PSU hasn't died. He's on a budget. So no point in getting another PSU unless he needs it, right? My choice of PSU, their efficiency, silence and reliability are entirely incidental. We're talking about HIS needs, not yours, nor mine. As it happens you couldn't be further from the truth - I've been building quiet and efficient PCs for years.
  4. Future-proof what? He's on a budget and on a platform that likely needs upgrading. Upgrading the CPU and GPU are going to improve his A2 experience. Not a new PSU. Unless you're running a multi-GPU setup (expensive) anything past 450W is fairly pointless these days.

  6. Pointless overkill. There's no need for such a powerful and expensive PSU. As for your choice of cards, they're equally over-sized. Leon86 said it well "you can run A2 fine on mid-range hardware". You just have to be smart rather than simply throwing money at it and hoping it sticks. Moreover contrary to your declaration "Anything better would require an upgrade" couldn't be further from the truth. Apart from the very top end (enthusiast) cards, practically all modern cards have similar, if not lower power requirements. If you like ATi then I'd opt for a 6850 - powerful, reasonably priced and meagre (only 19W more than 5770). Provided you have a decent PSU 450W should be fine. So the money you save on replacing your PSU you can put towards the 6850. I'd recommend the Sapphire Radeon HD 6850. This review analyses its power requirements in quite some detail (OK its the 6870 puts its comparable). Here's a decent benchmark that allow you to compare the gains that might be delivered by upgrading from a 5770 to 6850.

    Great idea. I'm fed up with seeing machine gunners running up hills with RPGs on their backs without hardly breaking a sweat :rolleyes: So, might I suggest that a combatant's recovery rate also be influenced by his stance? e.g. a soldier standing will recover quicker than one crouching. Conversely lying down offers even quicker recovery than standing. Of course, any movement will slow the rate of recovery. Bear in mind that if you set a max weight of 50kg, soldier's won't be able to carry an injured comrade :o (80kg?) On the contrary I think that should be allowed, albeit very slowly. So I'd set at a Max Weight of 110kg based on 80kg (him) + 15kg (his gear) + 15kg (your gear). Ideally you'd need a mechanism whereby a rescuer can remove certain items from a victim to make him light enough to carry. Imagine, during a firefight, having to lift your buddy only to discover, you're not quite strong enough. Drop him. Dump some of his gear. Try again. Still not there? Drop him. Dump some of my gear. Lift him and struggle back to the safety of cover! Such a trial and error method (rather than a immediate refusal or error message) would really add to the tension. Obviously rescuers should be able to drag greater loads than carrying (+50%?) However to compensate this "high" limit, I'd really ramp up the exhaustion : class1: 11-20Kg (laden) class2: 21-40Kg (burdened) class3: 41-70Kg (encumbered) class4: 71-110Kg (overloaded)
  9. Can anyone confirm that OA's campaign can be played in co-op? If so, is the limit 4 players? Finally, is OA's co-op campaign more solid than A2's co-op campaign? i.e. Have they resolved the frequent desynchronisations? Corruptions of saved games? etc. ?
  10. Obviously I'm too dumb :p Seriously does the installer work for both client and server? If so, can I run it off my machine as in both modes simultaneously? (we don't have a dedicated server, so I host and my mates connect to my PC) Also, has anyone tested compatibility with the latest version of CBA? (0.7) Finally, I checked your site and noticed a couple of things: 1. Your changelog seems outdated as the last entry is v1.0.8 (Work In Progress) whereas the first page of this thread references 1.0.14 2. Roadmap seems empty. IIRC you have big plans for v1.1, non? 3. Otherwise, your documentation seems uncannily thorough and well-written Gonna try and get it running tonight!

  14. Is the new version of CBA (v0.7) still in testing? Because I checked your CBA page and there's no sign of it: http://dev-heaven.net/projects/cca And will it be multi-platform? i.e. compatible with A2, OA and CO
  15. Gutted to hear that the next version of GL4 will only be compatible with CO/OA. But I guess that is the price of progress :( Any chance you could release a version that only includes bugfixes in the current version? i.e. don't worry about the new features. In the meantime I'm going to increase my efforts in getting my clan to upgrade to OA :o

SNKman: we understand that with the recent flurry of beta patches you're trying to hit a moving target :eek: but please bear a thought for those of us still with vanilla A2 (not OA) :o We've had the same beta for almost 3 months now (72588) and it shows no signs of changing :( So if you're satisfied with the performance of your latest version of GL4 (v1.1.88?) with 72588, could you release it anyway? :D Who knows perhaps this is the best option? After all GL4 has become so wide-ranging and OA increasingly different from A2 that maybe separate versions would be more efficient?
  19. You are right in thinking that setting Shadows to "High" or even "Very High" shifts the burden from the CPU to the GPU. What you are missing is that GPUs are generally more efficient at certain calculations than CPUs. So, where possible, you should try and off-load these calculations from the CPU to the GPU. This is particularly important given that the CPU is often a bottlebeck in A2. Obviously this only applies if you have a powerful GPU (<2 years old).

    Hi, After reading your feedback I'm dying to try the latest version but I don't have Yoma. So coud a kind soul send me the latest version? I just re-checked the build on the Zeus website but seems to be dated 5th October. That seems to suggest that it isn't the latest version. If it helps, I can mirror this version.
  23. @phatj: Interesting to read that OA runs significantly better than A2. Can't really say for OA as I don't have it but I can offer some tips for A2. @WackyIraqi: I totally agree about the importance of CPU speed and that overclocking today is far safe than it used to be (10+ years ago). Try some of my tweaks for even more performance.

    Surprisingly enjoyable. Your direct commentary is refreshingly honest and quite amusing. Although I have to agree with most of CarlGustaffa's comments. Looking forward to new episodes. BTW you might want to try running these mods (WarFX , JTD Fire&Smoke, JTD Flies and JTD Fat Rain) because they improve the visual experience of the game without significantly impacting the balance.
