Montanaro 0 Posted July 2, 2010 I haven't had an opportunity to test it yet, but does the slat armor on the stryker actually protect it from RPGS?
SteveJA 12 Posted July 2, 2010 Im gona that a shot and say NO lol Installing atm so will test
cole 0 Posted July 2, 2010 (edited) Just tried it in the editor. The vehicle itself doesnt blow up, but its wheels get destroyed and some of the crew die, the rest leaves the vehicle. edit: a shot to the rear part damages the weels but vehicle is still fully operational, with crew alive. andromedagalaxe 10 Posted July 2, 2010 test the front. apparently there is a lot of damage despite frontal armor
Montanaro 0 Posted July 2, 2010 I'm not sure of the statistics with real life survivability with slat armor. But if it didn't help somewhat they wouldn't have it on the vehicles.
callaway 0 Posted July 2, 2010 (edited) SLAT cages basically keep the smaller shaped charges from being able to contact the armor and send a jet of liquid copper through the plating, it also keeps tradition frag warheads from impacting on the armor as well. I've seen no evidence that they serve any purpose in Arma 2:AO other than a small hit point increase. Edited July 2, 2010 by callaway

Alaric -ITA- 10 Posted July 2, 2010 Same, at least so far as i noticed, as ERA armor, they don't explode protecting the vehicle's hull, and SLAT don't stop warheads from hitting the vehicle.
dreday 1 Posted July 3, 2010 Luckily the ACE mode already has a solution for it as they simulate the SLAT (as well as reactive) armor. I am really looking forward to seeing what the ACE crew can do with AO!! Peace, DreDay

max power 21 Posted July 3, 2010 (edited) At the bottom of page 18 of the TRADOC regarding the RPG 7, it shows the effectiveness of such screens on a chart (RHA penetration vs. standoff distance). While the drop off is quite dramatic, the RPG 7 is still able to penetrate the m113's 1.5 inches of aluminum at greater than 5 feet of standoff. I couldn't find any armour thickness stat for the Stryker, just that it's good against 14.5mm bullets. On the next page it demonstrates RPG screens that electrically dud the grenade by crushing the nose cone, rather than causing it to explode at a standoff. callaway 0 Posted July 3, 2010 The reason that you cannot find armor thickness for the Striker is that it's still classified. The info may be out there, but you won't find it from official sources.
dreday 1 Posted July 3, 2010 The data from Iraq and Afghanistan shows that SLAT-equipped Strikers stand a very good chance of withstanding the RPG attack. At least this goes for the older PG-7 grenades that are used in those regions. PG-7VL and especially PG-7VR would probably be more effective...
