CoolSpy 9 Posted June 30, 2010 Hello folks, I am wondering if OA has any kind of disk check when you launch the game each time! For me this is big turn off and I think I might buy the Steam version if it had any! So, is it the case ? TIA for your help!
Fred DM 0 Posted June 30, 2010 yeah, it does. and this version of Securom seems to be more annoying than other copy protection systems. lots of people, including myself, are experiencing long disc verification times, or Securom being unable to verify the inserted disc at all. seriously haven't had this problem in years. opening/closing the tray usually solves the problem, though. still, can't wait for this crap to be patched out. :o
CoolSpy 9 Posted June 30, 2010 OMG.... I hate to buy digital versions of games but I might do it for this game since I plan to launch it many times a day!
11aTony 0 Posted June 30, 2010 It will go away in few patches. ;)
Xjiks 10 Posted June 30, 2010 When installing the dvd version, it asks whether you want to have an online activation or activation based on the DVD in the drive. I chose online activation, and now I don't have to put the disc in the drive to play.
Guest Posted June 30, 2010 Yep, its there but Maruk stated somewhere in these forums it will be removed very soon, even sooner than it was released for Arma 2. Dont ask me for the topic, no idea where and when it was posted. Maybe yesterday.
Placebo 29 Posted June 30, 2010 When installing the dvd version, it asks whether you want to have an online activation or activation based on the DVD in the drive.I chose online activation, and now I don't have to put the disc in the drive to play. Unfortunately some versions of the game (we're getting reports of German DVD version) are having an issue where Securom is telling them their CD Key is not in their database and thus it cannot be activated online at which point it keeps looping around and the game won't run, we're trying to get this resolved ASAP but the solution is to delete Paul.dll from the install directly and choose DVD activation instead. If that can help, I have the french dvd-boxed version of the game.

Dangerdog 0 Posted June 30, 2010 If you choose online activation how many activations do you get and if you uninstall the game before changing hardware/reformatting do you get your activation added back into the pool? I know it's always been a sticky situation talking about copy protection on here but if you could give us any info on this tiny detail it would be appreciated, unless it's region based maybe a brief synopsis could be added to a FAQ somewhere. Fred DM 0 Posted June 30, 2010 Delete Paul.dll as mentioned above? where is it supposed to be found? a windows search reveals several files with that name, associated with other games, but none for ArmA 2. i have all hidden files revealed.
Placebo 29 Posted June 30, 2010 OA install directory.
Fred DM 0 Posted June 30, 2010 OA install directory. i can't find it. there is one in the Ghostbusters folder, one in the BFBC2 folder and two in the Episodes from Liberty City folder. that's all i can find.
Placebo 29 Posted June 30, 2010 Then this mentioned "fix" must not be applicable to your version.

mr burns 132 Posted July 1, 2010 Solution for Securom error "key not in database" with german ArmA 2 download version + german OA Box retail: Delete following files from your ArmA2 installation directory 1. paul.dll 2. lang.ini copy/paste/translated from here: http://hx3.de/318659-beitrag8.html
Fred DM 0 Posted July 1, 2010 wait, does that paul.dll file only appear once i've tried activating the game online? i have the German retail version, and never activated it online. i don't recall seeing such an option, but perhaps i installed too hastily. i can't find paul.dll. does that mean i'd have to reinstall the game in order to activate it online?
Placebo 29 Posted July 1, 2010 I may be completely wrong as I don't have that version myself but yes I think it's only created once you try to activate online (and then each time it only tries to activate online and no longer gives you the DVD option).
