Walking speed

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Is there any way to walk fast without using ironsights?

When I hold my walk button, the soldier walks noticeable slower than when aiming. For example you can see the difference when walking (running) up hill, switch to 3rd person camera and try pressing the walk button.

So... anyone found a solution to this problem? If not, I think walking should be slightly faster.

There's only 'safe' walk, 'high ready' walk, jog, and sprint in the game as far as standing movement goes I'm afraid. Personally I like the slow, relaxed walk though. It wouldn't really feel natural if it was much faster, unless it is to be a forced march.

This is something i really wish changed too. Why the hell would a soldier ever walk that slow. Nobody does that in real life. If you are just walking on a patrol you are usually at a hiking pace. For this reason nobody ever puts there soldier in that mode.

....walking speed is actually about right. 1.5/2m per second or so?

Doesn't feel right, as I said, hiking pace is what walk should be, otherwise its a useless feature in the game, unless you really want some AI to walk that slow.

Sort'a depends. For a perimeter patrol of a base, or a street patrol where being visible is more important than covering ground, then the speed is fully reasonable. For marching or long patrols though I agree that the speed doesn't cut it.

You can only affect AIs speed afaik. Using forceSpeed on a group can cause it to walk pretty fast. For the player in that group, it means he has to change between walking and jogging to keep up. And that was bloody funny, because: That was exactly how I experienced service in real life - our platoon leader and company commander had some extreme walking speeds nobody else was able to keep up with without the occasional jog :D

@tacticalnuggets: It would depend on the patrol and area to be patrolled, and a lot of other factors. The default speed is fine, use forceSpeed if you want them to patrol at a faster pace.

There is a difference in speed when using the iron sights between walking and jogging mode.

Try it, bring up the iron sights and 'jog', then hold the walk button. There is a small difference.

I don't want to be forced to be in sighted view to actually move slowly.

I like it the way it is.

When in CQB situation I prefer to walk carefully, but bringing ironsights up covers too much screen (it is better with floating zone, which I don't like) and using normal walking is just too slow. Imagine clearing a building that way...

maybe, if they speed up non-gun walk and add some benefit to it then people would use it more? Maybe making your soldier more aware when he is non-gun walking like a real patrol trying to scout out. Jogging has no awareness benefits, and gun walking channels those benefits only to the front which makes it better for CQB than for patrols.

To achieve the same speed that you get when trying to run with sights up (which is faster than the 6KM/H normal walk speed but slower than the 20KM/H jog speed or 25KM/H sprint speed), but without aiming your weapon, you will have to bind movement (binding sprint works) to a joystick axis, and then if you move it forward just the right amount you will get the fast walk speed.

Yeah I do this with tanks using my X-52 throttle. Allows for a slower tank crawl which in turn allows for a more stable firing platform.

If you map the correct keys you can get the slow(default) and fast walk speeds. Map 'slow forward' to an unused key, then when you press both that key and normal walk forward (Shift +w or w if toggled) you will move at a higher walk speed.

We could definately use a "combat stride" pace somewhere between the walk and jog speed where we can still keep weapons up while moving.

Doing MOUT/CQB in arma is pretty difficult because walk speed is so slow but with run speed your weapon goes down. Throwing a flashbang(ACE) or grenade then entering a room to clear it is a real pain because of this.

You ALREADY CAN, read one post above yours.
