Some examples of "reliable" mixing would be precious for us rookies!

Nothing adds so much immersion to ARMA2 like a great sound mods...

P.S.

It seems that some sound mods are not really updated, with a 1.05 they crash the game to desktop... or it's my clumsy installation ?

mrcash2009: I'd be very interested in trying your sound-mod compo. Do you have them zipped together in an archive? If so, would you mind uploading them to share with others? If not, could you maybe provide a list of which files you've used?

I cannot share is its other mod makers work, you need to source and download yourself.

But ... heres what I have:

Following are links and then the spoiler sections list what I have put into my own created mod folder (I simply copy and paste into new named mod folder "@Soundmix/addons" I then add in the command line this sound folder ONLY at top priority after CBA:

@CBA;@Soundmix;@ACE; ... then acex (Although no ACE_SM)... then other additions etc etc...

I do not use ACE_SM (ACE sounds) as this can conflict and you get vanilla guns back and other odd things.

I only used the evironment sounds, nice rain and thunder is great, plus some nice exras with birds and widlife thatseem to fit really well:

As regards GL4this is actualy an AI mod but has some audio effects within it, I use the whole thing, but for sounds it does have a nice radio comms feature for all vehicles for extra immersion, church bells in towns and other small ambient effects that add to the whole feel of things. You can turn everything else off and only use sound if you wish, thats entirely up to you but its here:

The readme that comes with the download shows how to edit and turn things off, but for people new to it all it might be a lot of messing for just some ambient sounds, this one is up to your personal pref.

Again, this is all subjective and not to everyone's taste, I respect all the sound modders and i would say check them all out and see what YOU like the most, I only posted as you asked what I had and where it was, hope it helps.

CSM2 with ACEX_SM

what happens if u combine them? i thought the soundmods overrode each other but i guess it isnt like that, but if you mix those two what do you get?

i'm looking for a soundmod too wondering what i should get

-nvm watched that video and im quite impressed, i'll be getting the same config, though i can't seem to find any direct links to the hifi sound mods.

There are some "worries" with combinations:

1) Inconsistencies. I.e. in sound levels used and occlusion factors. You might end up with tanks reaching farther in the soundscape than choppers, because one sound modder had different ideas than the other.

2) Much easier to find servers that doesn't allow mods, or not all of them.

3) Sound mod may not easily support other mods, i.e. ACE. You could end up with ACE sounds for a certain type of vanilla weapon, and a completely different sound for basically the same weapon. Haven't seen (ehh, heard) this, but it is easy to imagine it could happen.

4) I guess in some cases you could end up with competing mods, meaning that the mod sequence (in your shortcut icon) can become important.

CSM2 has been created to work "with" ACE_SM ... so you just need to place them together in the mod exe line only, no need to merge them physically into one folder at all. When you merge anything make sure you keep the original folders and pbo's in place (via copy and paste) especially if you are using Six updater/Yoma etc.

CSM has its own config switch in order for it to look and override ACE_SM or simply work with it. Pretty neat actually.

I have been testing latest CSM with ACE_SM latest and I didn't really take it much on a good test, I think this mod was made to be far more of an impact via headphones, for that I was very impressed. CSM when on speakers without boost or EQ seem to be lacking a little in first person gun when firing, yet put some boost on (I use Xfi) and throw on some headphones and its lovely. So not to add bias I will knock up this combination too as a video ... im getting back into messing with video's so might as well have a play. Couldn't fault a lot of it especially bullet cracks and explosions, its nice to be torn between options :)

For me its either the mix of a few (my view only), or CSM2 with ACE_SM ... those two camps are a nice option.
