Did I miss the boat on this game?

Recommended Posts

I tried my first multiplayer game today and it was dissapointing to say the least :( I was expecting to be part of a team working together to overcome another team. Instead it was just me leading ai. I even had enough money to buy a tank from the start, shouldn't tanks be rare? I saw more tanks than infantry. I don't get it, AT troops cost jack why would I ever go with a basic rifleman when everyone just made tanks.

Is the game dead?

Dude you need to explore the different ways to play MP in ArmA 2.

If its team work you want then its available, just look around the forums for squads.

If you want to be part of an actual team that has set nights for missions / training and who are extremely serious then look into clans.

Just an option.

I couldn't find any organised teams from Australia :( That was the first thing I looked for. Not sure how playable games would be from overseas.

There are some team-based PvP (i.e. no AI, just human players with and against each other) modes out there that deliver what you describe. Have in mind that the coordination and teamwork in most cases is facilitated by being on team communications (i.e. Teamspeak, Mumble, Ventrillo).

We play AAS on our public PvP server (see sig below) which is a team based PvP mode. It's basically what you are looking for - two teams battling for the capture and control of several objectives. More than 50% of the players are usually on Teamspeak and we do play tactical and coordinated. The server is populated every evening (US time). We have more than a handful Australians playing regularly on ArmAcalypse.

If you have a good ping to Europe, check the BCA server , they have AAS gaming nights every week.

Also, AAS is being played in the currently biggest (I believe) ArmA 2 PvP Tournament, Armed Global Warfare, which starts in a few week into its 3rd campaign and you can still sign up (don't worry, they welcome newcomers).

For more info on AAS, you can also check out the AAS home page.

Don't give up yet, for someone new to the (multiplayer part of the) game the sheer amount of different game modes might seem confusing, and it will take some time for you to find "your" favorite game mode. But it is absolutely worth it, and I would suggest you try a few.

Wow thanks guys i'll check em out. It was indeed confusing when I tried it seemed like the community was splintered by versions and mods @_@ I downloaded ACE2 which seemed to be the most popular. I like its sfx and the no crosshair by default :)

Hi Xen0tech

If you are in Europe or the US you may like to play on the Zeus servers Thursday and Sunday nights 7:30 GMT. A mixture of COOP and A & D. They even play some Death Matches and CTI on public days.

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=85268

They run a Yoma's repository for easy updates of MODs used ACE Zcommon with many community islands and Zeus AI.

Kind Regards walker

Playing on foreign servers in ArmA2 is tolerable. I am from Australia (Melbourne) and I play with the TacticalGamer group fairly often. Don't sweat having a ping in the few hundreds, it's fine.

Indeed. Pings don't matter nearly as much as they do in other games. It's desync that you need to look out for.

Nice i'm from Melbourne too I was worried about that. I found a group called OCB ^^ They are aussie based so I filled in an application. If I don't hear back i'll check out TG I read about them in an arma2 guide.

Is Zeus AI a mod? I'd like a link to that :o

You could try our brand new server!

We concentrate on Team-Play, and have fairly limited vehicle resources around.

Check out the thread I just made about our new server here.
