jokerl90 10 Posted April 29, 2010 I'm very new to Arma2, have only had it a few days. Not sure if the title of this really explains the problem, but here it is. 1.After re-spawning I was stuck in freelook. had to reboot to fix. Another player had the same problem, said his corrected itself after dieing and re-spawning a few times. 2.After standing from the prone position would go prone after taking a step.(stand up, take a step, automatically go prone again) 3. After being revived, would automatically start moving in a random direction. A press of the key to go in the opposite direction usually would fix. Any help would be much appreciated. sprayer_faust 0 Posted April 29, 2010 1) You were stuck in freelook even after double-tapping alt? Because double-tap is usually the command which toggles through things.
jblackrupert 14 Posted April 29, 2010 I had the same problem, I would spawn running all the time, mashing the WASD keys was the only thing to get it to stop. Appeared shortly after the 1.05 patch. Doing a reinstall cleared it up for me.
Steakslim 1 Posted April 29, 2010 Headbug? Also the moving int he random direction, in Domination usually to fix that you just hit the key in the direction you are moving but I dunno if these issues are related.

I use alt for push to talk in team speak. I use a side click on the scroll wheel bound to the * on the numpad for free look. Have deleted anything to do with free look and alt in the options/controls.
Alex72 1 Posted April 29, 2010 Double tapping the left ALT button will free your head completelly. Meaning when you turn you will only turn your head and your body wont follow. Double tap ALT again and its all back to normal. My own keyboard wich i have to scrap somehow makes the WASD buttons stick at times (not pushed down but rather electrical problem) and i keep running to the side for example. And the third thing as explained above that in some missions (EVO & DOM and maybe more) can give you the "head bug" where the missions maker has to add a function (custom made menu with different options) where you can chose to remove the head bug. Hope that helps.

Have deleted anything to do with free look and alt in the options/controls. There are two controls that switch on the independent head movement (freelook). One is called Look (hold) and the other Freelook (toggle), make sure you changed them both.
jokerl90 10 Posted April 29, 2010 ok thanks! Could the step, go prone thing be from injuries?
no use for a name 0 Posted April 29, 2010 ok thanks! Could the step, go prone thing be from injuries? Very possible; if you get hit in the leg bad enough you won't be able to walk until a medic heals you

No I think it is an Arma2 bug. I've heard several mention this problem, and sometimes I've had it myself (but only for sideways). But it never happens as I type. sbsmac 0 Posted April 30, 2010 Agree it's a bug - I frequently get this, usually in MP as I'm sprinting and moving from side to side evasively. After releasing all keys the character will continue moving to the side or forwards until another key is pressed to over-ride the movement.
EDcase 87 Posted April 30, 2010 I've never had this happen. If it mainly happens in MP it may be something to do with internet connection or packet sending. Check your key repeat rate isn't too high perhaps.
sbsmac 0 Posted April 30, 2010 Actually it's far more likely to be an issue with the way animations are blended. See the CIT for several related issues submitted by me and others on the topic. BTW - many of my teammates have also seen this.
jokerl90 10 Posted May 1, 2010 Many thanks for the replies! Something that may or may not be related. At the time I was having the controls issues, I was also having video problems, mainly artifacts. Not happening at the same exact time but in the same gaming session. After changing some video options, not alt+tab out of game, not using fraps, and using a disk defragging program, I have not had the control issue or the video issue (crosses fingers lol) since. It's only been a couple of sessions of a few hours each, but these two things have seemed to be resolved. (again...crosses fingers!)
