Belgian Army

Recommended Posts

Alright, I will. What about the UKF & p85 weapons? I guess they will be required as well?

Would it help if i sent u the units in advance?

It's not necessary, but it would be nice to see how they look when 'finished' and with proper weapons anyway :)

Hm... Maybe someone could post a list of appropriate Belgian first names and surnames to be used with Aeneas' soldiers here / or send me a PM?

I guess proper names would add that little extra bit of 'flavor'.

Thanks in advance,

D.

You can check config of our Slovenian soldiers or even Afrenian/Molatian to see how the proper "local" names are used for AIs.

? I doubt that your Slovenian and/or Afrenian/Molatinas have Belgian names...

EDIT: Oh, you mean to see how to implement the names (stupid me) ... I already have done this for my Portuguese & Angolan soldiers, but thanks for the tip :)

C'mon people... A serious list... 20 first- and 20 sur-names would suffice for a start I guess.

I'd do that myself, but the last time I did the 'search the telephone book of country xy for proper names'-thing, I got virtually beaten up by the natives because of the 'weird' names I chose... :(

So: Belgians, please put up a proper list. :)

Thanks to all for the names! :)

Yes, that would be good...

... but I guess it will be a bit problematic to get that in-game without constantly mixing Wallon and Flemish Sur/first names - unless that's the case in real life anyway.

I remember back in the day when my German and French used to be pretty good (im lucky to remember 4 or 5 words these days). I used to enjoy travelling to the netherlands and belgium because i could understand most flemish and dutch and those people who didn't speak perfect english spoke very good french or german. I do remember being suprised by the number of walloon belgians who hated flemish belgians and vice versa though i didn't think it was that big an issue but i guess i was wrong. Either way i would imagine there could be some mixing of names. I really need to get an addon made where i can put my own name in for the guys but my name is very much British so this one isn' the right setting. lol

http://www.eupedia.com/belgium/belgian_surnames.shtml

At the bottom you find a list of Belgian last names. Both Flemish and Walloon.

As for Walloon first names I THINK these might be appropriate:

Gilles

Louis

Robert

Jean

Georges

Rene

Jacques

Léon

Paul

Pierre

Michel

Ernest

André

Benoît

...

I don't think some name mixing is a problem tbh.

Many thanks!

Wallon names have been added too.

If the mixing is too much, I could always add a seperate Wallon name list later, and devide the soldier classes between the two lists (e.g. every machine gunner has Wallon names, every Grenadier Flemish names...).

Phf, you forgot the most common name: Tammenaers Rik (read with first name first but you have to be Flamish)

:p Oldy, but still works with new guys on my work.

Anyway, nice to see small detail like correct names. Good work.
