This is for anyone using Windows 7 bloatware

Have a look here and see what services can be stopped to reduce the resorce hog that is Windows 7.

Its safe to do as long as you have basic understanding of editing services.

Of course I take no responsability if you do screw things up... ;)

(Do not stop "Remote Procedure Call RPC")

I turned off everything in the "Tweaked" category and reduced memory usage from 1.9Gb to about 800Mb

I used his settings, with great results, on XP and Vista. But I have yet to try any of them with 7. I guess I've just been so happy/surprised with 7's performance I have seen no need.

But thanks for the reminder. I'm going to tweak some shit now... :)

Run with every thing stock~ UAC is low, and my win7 is fine. On low ram ,low hz CPUs using XP32 turning off services is fine, but win7... with new hardware.... nahhh. nice you have a "extra" gig of ram... guess more for a RAMdisk, or its just sitting there doing nothing anyways.

Yeh, cant say Win7 is bloatware for me (yet).

I'm using stock standard, only disabled sound effects and WM Player download update service (as suggested elsewhere in these forums)

Strange.. with 47 processes, AV on, firefox running and downloading a single fat file WTK shows me about 900 MB being used, on Vista :eek: .

And im too lazy to tweak anything or learn wich processes can be safely shut down, though i do check them from time to time.

Is 7 really that better or is micro$oft just that smart?

All jokes aside, even if uses about a gig after boot, I don't consider it to be bloated in that it runs all my stuff without stutter and it's very reliable by Windows standards.

I used to be big into all that tweaking stuff, but now older and wiser, I find that if a machine can't run an OS smoothly (beyond some basic tweaks), it either needs to be upgraded, or a different OS needs to go on it.

LOL .. yep. Same.

Win7 seems to work well for me. I've using various OS's for a decade and a half and have to say its looking pretty tidy, considering its still a MS product ;)

After 5 hours im still under 2GB. Mind you I have Firefox open with 4 tabs open, and MSN messenger with 2 windows open.
