Double-sided polygons?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to have double-sided polygons in O2/ArmA2? For example a snowflake say. One poly = 1 snowflake visible from both sides?

Of course, but the question remains can O2/ArmA2 do double-sided polygons? :) All I know so far is that I cannot import double sided polygons, and I cannot find a way to do it in O2.

Im going to say no its not possible. I've tried each time we get a new O2 build. It seems the engine just cant cope with it.

As Deadfast suggests you just have to copy and paste then flip the faces.

Hmm, OK, it's not a great problem, just thought I might save myself some polys :)

Thanks for the responses.

It's possible to make double-sided polygons. Just select 3 or 4 points and press F6 twice. The second polygon will appear on the other side.

Its very simple just select your points and press F6 two times and there is your dubble sided face.

If you want it to be the same on both sides, you should create a plane, give it the texture of the snowflake and fit the texture. Then select the plane, press "crtl+c", "crtl+v" and "w"...

now you have the texture visible on both sides...

now you can copy paste that doublesided polygon and rotate it 90 deg. then paste again and rotate the other axxis. This should give a snowflake visible from everywhere.

hope that helped

I wasnt particularly clear. Yes you can do it but the engine doesnt like it. You can see it struggle to render it. You get odd shading it you try. Its especially obvious with glass rvmats.

True but it's still very usefull when you have to make thin flat surfaces for alpha channeled textures other than glass. With sharp edges the engine doesn't seem to have problems rendering double sided polygons.

double sided is fine as long as both sides arent welded together

what?

if it is double side, it is only one face. What shouldn't be welded together?
