-Total- 0 Posted December 28, 2009 (edited) Gaijin studios took IL-2 Birds Of Prey and turned it into a PC game called Wings Of Prey ( http://airwargame.com ) Now, before you write it off on that statement alone, the flight models were taken from the PC version IL-2 Sturmovik. There's definitely room to improve on the flight models and physics, but it's a far cry better than some other titles that have been released claiming to be a sim. They took the engine framework from the console version and built it up to be a PC version. So, it's not a straight port. Video reviews of the game can be found by clicking the noassholes link in my sig :) Edited December 28, 2009 by -Total-
Fudgeblood 10 Posted December 28, 2009 This game gets too little attention, imo. It looks fantastic, runs fantastic and is alot of fun too. Only drawback is the lack of a quick mission editor like in IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 :( (Unless there is infact a mission editor and I havn't looked hard enough.) CW001 10 Posted December 28, 2009 This is one of the things I wished actually happened when BoP was released. Epic!
von_paulus 0 Posted December 28, 2009 (edited) The ground detail is really fantastic and what amazes me his the smoothness. With my rig I can almost max all things and it's incredible super smooth. There are a lot of nice touches. Still there is a lot of room to improvement. But it's only beta and they are patching it at a rate of 3/4 times a week, fixing and improving. I'll judge it when it's final. For now Video options are besides the AA and Anisotropy settings: Texture Quality (5 levels) Visibility Range(3 levels) Shadows Airplane self-shadowing Self reflections Water reflections Motion blur Haze Soft particles Vignette Edited December 28, 2009 by Von_Paulus

mrcash2009 0 Posted December 29, 2009 (edited) WOW ... I have been playing IL2 since Forgotten Battles and have 1945 complete set. Although not been playing since arma as I realised the graphics weren't that superb (although that's not everything). I have been off from checking latest updated with anything IL2 and flight sim ... and this is exactly the eye candy/next gen look IL2 "based" sim was needing. I found this post of a flight simmer using triplehead to go showing 3 demo videos/chat walk though, very impressive stuff indeed. http://forum.yuplay.com/index.php?showtopic=602 I will get this for sure. The third video showing a dog fight is superb, the sounds etc. Check the oil leak on the canopy as he fly's through the damaged planes (enemy) trail ... really nice touches. von_paulus 0 Posted December 29, 2009 Check the oil leak on the canopy as he fly's through the damaged planes (enemy) trail ... really nice touches. And when you enter in a heavy cloud the same happens only with water rain. These are the type of nice touches that I was referring before. This can be a replace simulator while the real new IL-2 is not out.
Aeneas2020 10 Posted December 29, 2009 a couple of questions on this...maybe i'm missing something, is it out yet? and also is there any way to buy it other than that yuplay thing?
mr burns 132 Posted December 29, 2009 Guru3D.com Forums - View Single Post - Wings of Prey Apparently the full game files include a demo, but the frickin torrent won´t start up for me
von_paulus 0 Posted December 29, 2009 a couple of questions on this...maybe i'm missing something, is it out yet? and also is there any way to buy it other than that yuplay thing? There is no final version yet, it's in beta stage. You can buy beta and play it. When the final version is released you'll be freely entitle to it. If you buy the beta now, in the end the final version will have cost you less $10. You can only buy through yuplay, and they did confirm that there will be a box version, only much later and not everywhere. You'll have the right for 3 activations, but you can always uninstall the game and that will give you back 1 activation. But they say, even if you use all the 3 activations, you'll only have to ask them form more. The sim brings a lot of airplanes already. But be warned they are already selling one extra plane (P-40E) for $3. So if they follow the current model of commercialization in flight simulators (Rise of Flight) probably they will launch a lot of extra planes (DLC's if you prefer) but you'll have to pay for them. But to be fair, the simulator already bring a lot of them. They will launch tomorrow the Demo. If you're interested try it first. Probably there will be a lot of people who will not resist after trying it. ;) The hardcore simers, I believe, will have a different look at the simulator. But the thing is so smooth, that..... ---------- Post added at 11:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:11 PM ---------- Guru3D.com Forums - View Single Post - Wings of PreyApparently the full game files include a demo, but the frickin torrent won´t start up for me  Only tomorrow. :p

Aeneas2020 10 Posted December 30, 2009 I might pick it up then...but not sure if i'll just wait for storm over europe instead. I've got rise of flight right now and working may way through that when i get the chance but it's v tough indeed. Have flown a great many aircraft in rl the flight model seems pretty good but the AI just seems to want to resort to right hand turn fights every time no matter what setting u have it on. von_paulus 0 Posted December 30, 2009 I've also Rise of Flight, but this is a different type of simulator. Some things are better but others are worst. For WWI planes in general terms I prefer OFF than ROF, at least it has a decent campaign mode. The FM and DM are not so good as ROF, but the immersion is much better. Aeneas2020 10 Posted December 30, 2009 what is OFF? and more importantly where can i buy it?

von_paulus 0 Posted December 30, 2009 what is OFF? and more importantly where can i buy it? http://www.overflandersfields.com/ It's a mod for CFS3, only it makes justice to the true meaning of what a mod should be. It's a complete modification (graphically, AI, etc, etc) to the original one. If you have played Red Baron and like it, than OFF is the right sim for you. The OFF's devs pedigree is Red Baron. Personally I consider OFF more a WWI flight combat simulator than WWI flight simulator. ROF is the later. OFF will offer more SP content while ROF tends to be more MP. The dynamic campaign (historical correct) in OFF is one of its best characteristics. It's very immersive. Still there are things better in ROF like the wind buffeting effect but in overall and in my very personal opinion OFF is better. mr burns 132 Posted December 31, 2009 (edited) Wow! I think i´m in love with this game. For the sweet look of it (despite the demos gfx detail cap) it performs great. Now if they manage to get some more IL2 into they have the perfect WW2 flightsim. But i´m sold nonetheless, even though it feels arcady it´s fucking fun. A pity the demo doesn´t support multiplayer. Just hoping the retail is coming soon as i still boycott anything that´s e-sale. Edited December 31, 2009 by Mr Burns

I was the one who made that post :) It's a good foundation to build upon. Anyone who played IL-2 when it first came out can agree that it wasn't completely accurate in it's flight models either, yet we played it like mad :D Edited December 31, 2009 by -Total-
mrcash2009 0 Posted December 31, 2009 (edited) I got this for the demo download. So Mr Burns the no graphics settings is a demo limitation then right? @TOTAL ... aah I get the link now (clues in the name eh) .... well maybe you could shed light on the following : Also within 1 min of running it and training I fired the gun, the gun sounds sticks on a loop for me, to the point that if I fire again, that will loop as another channel, then again, and again, to the point that each time I fire that will stick in a loop like 100 guns are firing? Only way out is to change cockpit view in game setting via esc (not quick key that doesn't kick the sound engine up the arse) then return and then it fades out those stuck channels ... my rig is in my sig, anyone reported this or know of this issue for the demo? BTW XP32 SP3 latest direct X 90c updates. This happens intermittent in a demo mission, once its stuck its stuck ... I found a sound bug in 1 minute .. not bed eh :) Also I really think they need to have gamma as well as brightness, I have my monitor calibrated and all fine in other games but there's too much glare from the sun (that deffo could be toned down anyway) to the point I want black blacker and some more tint ... I don't need to adjust monitor for any other game and messing with contrast doesn't really help. Does the demo graphics limitation miss out gamma, and is gamma in the full game? @ Total i notice your vids have what seems to be a nice gamma setting, mine looks a little more wishy washy. @Mr burns .. your pics were they photshopped at all, again they have that rich black = black depth, and again mines still wishy washy and alot more glare to it, hmmm. Also the demo doesn't seem to save any in game setting I make which is a chore becuase I have to assign everything one by one for my joystick (wingman geforce 32) and every time I load back up they are all back to unknown and defaults on everything which is annoying, any demo users have configs saving ok? BTW I just extracted the ISO to a drive of choice and ran the .exe ... without install it has no registry enties is that ok, or when you purchase is there a install procedure? Well anyway if I can sort this little lot out I might think about a purchase because visually and sound wise its superb.
