Woulff 0 Posted April 4, 2002 I would like to see TruForm in the next build. I've seen TruForm in action and it makes character models look great! According to ATI, TruForm is easy to add. Go for it!
GFX707 0 Posted April 5, 2002 Yeah, this would really be a great addition for those of us using ATI cards....don't know about the other 98% of gamers though
Sweeper 0 Posted April 5, 2002 In my oppinion ATI has the best cards. My test of both the GeForces were renamed to: CrashForce the higher number the more likely it is to crash. 50% likely to crash with ATI and 99,9999% with CrashForce or GeForce if you prefer. Add it now!!!
Dawdler 0 Posted April 5, 2002 Is this an addon or mod? Anyway, why truform? OFP looks good already And not everyone have such a card...
ALDEGA 0 Posted April 5, 2002 TruForm is a feature which automaticly adds triangles to make the model seem more smooth. According to ATI this feature is extremely easy to add (you supposedly only have to add 1 line of code). Then again ATI doesn't mind a bit of marketing. SUMA already responded to this request several months ago in some thread. He said he would consider it if it wouldn't take much work to implement. Btw, I don't understand your comment about GeForce's crashing. NVIDIA has virtually got the best driver support in the world. ATI has got the opposite. It's a fact. No flame intended. Dawdler 0 Posted April 5, 2002 First of all, a quote from SSam developers: "First of all, I'd like to say that Truform is a great piece of work. Thanx ATI! And it's *very* easy to implement it in the engine. Took me about an hour (and extra three to find a "bug" that didn't exist in first place:). Never mind ... " BUT: "Second thing is that even Truform is easy to implement from the coding point of view, Serious Sam (and not only SSam) needs a re-work of several models. Especially weapons! Simply put, normals for weapon models aren't fine-tuned for Truform, and that can have hilarious consequences. " And "And last, since SSam wasn't designed with Truform in mind (well, that's obvious), in several cases you wouldn't see much of an improvement in model quality. It's just because we already optimally tuned polygon count on models." So... Is it worth the effort? I doubt it...
kegetys 2 Posted April 5, 2002 In my opinion, the whole idea of truform is rather stupid... Why add more polygons to a optimized, low polygon model? If you want more polygons (smoother surfaces) you should do it to the model originally, and in a way that best suits that model. The GFX card should go into adding more polygons, as the card cannot know which part of the model is really meant to have a corner and not a smooth curve. rambozo 0 Posted April 5, 2002 Truform I think is a great technology. I think Operation Flashpoint would benefit greatly from it. Simply utilizing ultra high detail models isnt allways the good idea. Expecially in a situation like ofp. Could you imagine the performance hit? But Something like Truform makes it possible without a significant performance hit. But developers have to keep in mind its limitations. You dont simply want a toggle switch that enables it on everything. You should consider what would benefit from it and what would it make worse. Personally I think it would be great if it was only utilized on the men and trees.
canukausiuka 1 Posted April 5, 2002 Just wondering, does TruForm work on existing ATI cards, or is it just something they are planning for the next generation? I don't know how much a point there would be in implementing it in OFP if there aren't cards out that support it yet (although maybe with IL or Resistance). Antichrist 0 Posted April 6, 2002 It works on my Radeon 8500
rambozo 0 Posted April 6, 2002 Yup I got the 8500 to . They rock.
ALDEGA 0 Posted April 6, 2002 Rambozo, it's not a great technology. And why would you apply it to the trees? This really isn't gonna make them look better.
rambozo 0 Posted April 6, 2002 Its definately not a bad technology. And it would be nice to see it implimented. And I say it would be good for the trees cause it wouldnt distort them. It would be one of the few places it would work well. And it should work well on the men to. I think that would be enough. Just to spiff the game up a bit. Would just have to be causious as to how its implimented. Because if it aint done right then you might as well not do it at all. truform can make stuff look ugly. canukausiuka 1 Posted April 6, 2002 Do you know if it works on the radeon? That's what I have, and I haven't heard anything about it.
ALDEGA 0 Posted April 6, 2002 Rambozo, the trees and bushes are made up of flat images. Truform really can't make this look any better.
rambozo 0 Posted April 6, 2002 Uh no the trees are not simply sprites. The tree trunks are polygonal.
