mosh 0 Posted December 23, 2009 ?????????????? That's a lot of question marks. Anyways... In Arma (or any other FPS) "camping" refers to staying in one spot, being well hidden, and usually having an advantage of some sort by doing this. Is it illegal? Depends on who you listen to... to me it's just another tactic in a military simulator that works for some people... But many people are against it and will cry something fierce if they think you are doing it. I have ADD so I can't sit still long enough to camp.
ww2weasel 10 Posted December 24, 2009 camping and is it illegal New to multiplay I guess... Camping as Mosh stated has it's place in opflash - however it does indicate to other mp gamers a certain level of timidness. Most experienced MP players like the "chase" or the "hunt". If you hide in one place - you deny some mp players the game experience they are looking for. This is why you could receive some very negative feedback from other players. Depending on the mission however - a player may need to "camp" or "skulk" - just because of the mission design - if you get negative feedback then - it's ok to tell the other player to take a chill pill... zulu1 145 Posted December 24, 2009 Also called corner camping. This is due to a bug in OFP's animations that allow the player to position himself at a corner of a building concealing most of his body, but exposed enough so that the weapon optics have a clear field of vision. This is mainly abused in MP Deathmatch and Capture the Flag games.

This is mainly abused in MP Deathmatch and Capture the Flag games. oh my GOD! I encountered this many times (specially in tequila...) and thought it's some knowledge and skill I don't have. I even sought for some key on the keyboard that I can press to look via optics from the corners or walls' ends :D I also thought bullets can pass through thin walls (and corners therefore). ... sanctuary 19 Posted December 24, 2009 Note that any mods, like WGL5 by example, featuring custom animations is not affected by the "corner camping" For "camping" in general (stay in an advantageous position without moving for nearly all the mission), its "legality" is dependant on the rules of the server you play in. Just ask an admin if they forbid or allow this. Note that "camping" may lead into your death in some missions instead of giving you an advantage, due to artillery, canons, HE ammo etc... Beagle 684 Posted December 24, 2009 For dedicated snipers with dedicated sniper equipment, camping is the usual way to fight. This is not Quake. If you are in a defensive position (warfare) or you are ordered to surveil a area (can happen in warfare is you play with a compentent commander) "camping" is also the adequate tactic. again, this is not Quake. OFP Lover 10 Posted December 24, 2009 I use camping too and like it! I prefer to be killed less times than killing other players more times. it's more reality.
celery 8 Posted December 24, 2009 (edited) Keep in mind that the term camping doesn't even apply in coop and big scale pvp. It's distinguished as such in fast paced pvp because someone who stays still in one spot (especially one that the enemy has to pass) has a big chance to see enemies frequently without doing anything, and if the camper is in a place that has almost perfect cover, he is effectively making the gaming experience lame for the opposing team. Funny as it sounds, even deathmatch has its unwritten rules of sportsmanship when it comes to playing style. Edited December 24, 2009 by Celery
OFP Lover 10 Posted December 25, 2009 (edited) let see the issue from another aspect! camping is an art :D I am a good camper. so other players can camp too. and they can try to find the position of the camper and surprise him (maybe sometimes together). they can kill him and take that position themselves. also if all/most players camp, some ones eventually get tired and try to find enemies or change their camping position. etc. Edited December 25, 2009 by OFP Lover
