So I think walking when on stealth it should be possible to walk silent, I know AI doesn't react to it or something, but just quiet and really slow step by step. to sneak up on things.

At the moment it's nice that you can hear footsteps of someone moving fast and if you want to get to him you can't quiet yourself down and move up on him. Specially in a 1 on 1 fight.

I think it really improves the game play.. large ranges don't need this but since arma improved much in cqb since OPf:Cwc I think it should be implemented

and about the foodsteps, I'm just smoked out!=P

Anyhow, is it always possible to hear people sneak up on you? In death match a normal player vs player can't be done the sneaky way. That's why no knifes are in, but I like CQB in firefights and taking that advantage! =P

@RAVOC, I am a RL SF for 8 years and I can tell you this much... in the kind of grass you are getting in chernarus, there always will be loud crunching sound no matter how you walk in real life. Those totally quiet sneak ups only happen in hollywood, not RL and realism is what ArmA2 is all about. No matter how slowly you walk, there always will be that crunching sound with every step no matter how carefully you place your steps as there will always be a layer of dead leaves crunching beneath you. In RL SF, we don't try to sneak up on anyone unless its raining super heavily.

How about indoor sound. I understand Chernarus terain is rough but when you walk on the street or indoors when sneaking up a position or someone in there covering..?

^... only when you are wearing soft soles. The current combat soles produces a distinct sound walking, especially indoors. There are ways to silent it but I don't think ArmA2 covers SF tactics that much. Again, we only sneak up on people when there is significant background noise like heavy storms, not hollywood style you see in the movies.

I don't know exactly, but I had the feeling your suggestion is already implemented :confused:. With standard config you can hold shift to walk slowly. Since patch 1.03 it also allows you to sneak up to an AI soldier.

A commander was shouting at young soldiers (trainees) from a five centimetres away from their ears.

For minutes. Or: Four minutes.

You can be sure that they will never hear someone coming up with silence ... no more.

They will be not only emotionally deaf.

They will be deaf for life.

Ask a physician, specialist on ears.

They will reorganize. The ears. But each and again only to 90 % of what could be heard before.

I don't get it ...

Thats why we were issued earplugs at the second day of basic training in the Bundeswehr ;)

why would you need to sneak up on someone? a shot to the head from 10 meters away is fine and realistic and no one will hear you that way if you're walking. if you want to get within 2 feet of your opponent, i ask what's the point?

For me it's not so much about the sneaking as such, but the sense of being stealthy. Like, you walk very very slowly and almost hold your breath listening for some clues about enemies near your. Then you need to cross a stream. You dip your toe in the water and... Splawhooosj!!! HUUUUUGE noise right there, like a 10 meter dive. Total immersion breaker for me. This is how it happened in Vietcong, Farcry, and basically every game I've tried that has water.
