Blechreiz 0 Posted December 16, 2009 (edited) Ive got one simple question: Why are 90% of the public A.C.E.2 servers running in cadett mode with 3rd person, crosshair and all possible HUD informations you could ever imagine even with their admins connected? Why are they playing a 'realism mod' (if I may call ACE one) with an interface like in BF2 or OFP: DR (never played the last one, correct me if Im wrong). I dont want to start a new discussion of banning 3rd+X-hair+max. HUD but I wonder why almost every A.C.E.server has these settings today. Its hard to find a server without these HUD full of unrealistic and anoying informations if none of your mates or clan/group/whatever you play in private games usually is online. At least you can see in the multiplayer-menu if a server runs veteran or cadett mode what helps a lot. I took this shot on the [KH] server, nobody ingame answered my question. Maybe one of them does here :) On this point I thank you KH guys for sharing your ACE-upload in Yomas Addon Synch :bounce3: ---------------------------------------------------------------- Edit: A.C.E.2 Beta "veteran" serverlist: - vLLBRIG31 (german founded but english too, minimum is crosshair off, Tactical Coop, TvT, Warfare, Domination) - FoW (Tactical Coop, Domination) - -=ARMA2.AKeLLa.COM=- - {BDR} Clan Italia ACE2 ("no 3rd, no HUD, no xhair)" If there is a wrong information or you got another server post it! ---------------------------------------------------------------- Edited December 17, 2009 by Blechreiz
Minoza 11 Posted December 16, 2009 I would like to discuss why many great missions like Air Cav and many others come with grass layer turned off and view distance at 1500 with no option to change that on CLIENT side?
Blechreiz 0 Posted December 16, 2009 You can. Select 'Show Status' in action menu then go to settings. There is view distance and grass layer level. At least in Xeno missions.
[kh]jman 49 Posted December 16, 2009 IMHO Public servers by nature need to be as accessible as possible and that generally means that 'noob' players should not be too heavily penalised for their lack of knowledge of the game. You might argue that anyone playing ACE might already possess the right level of skills to always play in veteran mode but this cannot be assumed. Just because the server default is in recruit mode by default does not mean that it's still not possible to start a veteran game if required and can be set by the currently logged admin. ---------- Post added at 04:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:53 PM ---------- I would like to discuss why many great missions like Air Cav and many others come with grass layer turned off and view distance at 1500 with no option to change that on CLIENT side? If you download our Addon Pack you will find a mod to do just that at anytime during the game. We don't play PVP so we allow it on our server. Download it from our website and try it. Minoza 11 Posted December 16, 2009 (edited) Thank you Jman, Blechreiz, Show Status is available in Domi, yes, but in Air Cav, Waldo and some others without MHQ (which I preffer) there isn't such a option. *EDIT* Jman, for some reason link you gave me is not working for me... I mean, when I try to DL file I have to wait really long and once it starts to DL it doesn't DL anything.... Edited December 16, 2009 by Minoza

Minoza 11 Posted December 16, 2009 K thank you. I'm playing smooth with settings maxed out atm, I had a feeling that Warf FX could kill my FPS like FRAPS does... That wouldn't be acceptable for me. Anyways, thanks again!

We run two public servers and one private. The two public servers by default run on regular mode with these features running this is because not everybody likes that restriction. There are mods which you can use that disable X hairs and markers such as the AT GUI mod here which you can use on our public servers and you don't have to press the 3rd person button. Our private server used for training and organised missions is always set on veteran mode with pretty much all the mentioned features disabled.
Dr.Pulp 0 Posted December 16, 2009 i don't know why lot of servers are running cadet mode. our server is got a modified profile, that sets each setting (doesn't matter what you choose while starting a mission) to veteran/hardcore settings. i like it much better this way :)
Minoza 11 Posted December 16, 2009 Jman I still have one question though... Does Instant View Distance affects the objects, trees etc... Because I didn't see any other options for setting objects or trees view distance...
[kh]jman 49 Posted December 16, 2009 (edited) Thats a separate mod in the addon pack, object draw distance not to be confused with view distance. Edited December 16, 2009 by [KH]Jman
Minoza 11 Posted December 16, 2009 Yeah, I can understand that and I have both mods, it's just I don't get it how is that controlled? For example, if I set Instant View Distance will that also control Object Draw Distance? If not, how do I control Object Draw Distance?

You don't, it is in direct relation to view distance...up to a max point anyways
-HA-badger 0 Posted December 16, 2009 Server in my signature... Allways plying on veteran or profy...
KNac 10 Posted December 17, 2009 I specially don't understand this with ACE mod on, it's just stupid to play it that way as it negates a lot of the work that has been done on the mod. Seriouslly it's not that hardcore, people should try it. I think the major annoyance in general is the lack of 3rd person (specially with vehicles on map), but that's why you can customize difficulty levels (IMO BIS didn't get the deffault settings straight). cross 1 Posted December 17, 2009 (edited) This issue depends on the likes of the crowd and admins currently on the server. You can choose difficulty settings at the start of each mission and there is absolutely no reason stopping people from choosing veteran/expert, should anyone requests it. There are definitely lots of times, where we play vetaran/expert if we feel most of the crowd on the server is vocal on TS/VON and capable of teamwork. I sure don't want to babysit players as an admin when I'm playing on expert. That said, turning crosshairs and 3rd person off and leave map markers in veteran and making it server default is under discussion. PS..If you cannot operate a vehicle in 1st person, it means you are not capable enough to use it on public server. Especially helis. My only exception is the bike. Makes you nauseous when ridden in 1st person :( . Edited December 17, 2009 by Cross
Cowboy Pilot 10 Posted December 17, 2009 Well first off. We run on regular mode, but since we know how to edit files on the server end we set it up so "regular" is more of a mix between some regular settings and expert settings, which really is closer to veteran. Though its more of a realism mod, and most of the 3rd MD being military in RL and tactically focused people, we do see the limits that even ACE has since it it a video game and not real life. We have certain things enabled since normal situational awareness is a lot more lacking than in RL, and since your dealing with a lot of people who are not trained like they are in RL. If you hate 3rd person and stuff like that then don't use it is all I can say. As for cross hairs, the 3rdMD has them enabled since there were some weapons like the MK19 that didn't have proper sights and all, but if a lot of that has been fixed in ACE mod, we might look at removing it since it was keep when our servers were standard ArmA2. Also if your not looking down your sights your weapon I noticed seems to be a lot less accurate trying to shoot in third person, or without looking down the sight of their weapon
Minoza 11 Posted December 17, 2009 Cross, how it can be realistic to keep player markings on map?
