Benze 0 Posted April 2, 2002 The USMC- of the five major tactical inovations of the 20th century groud war, panzerblitz, airborne insertion, amphibious assault, CAS, airmobility/vertical envelopment, three were invented (with the slight exception of amphibious assault) by the USMC. The British tried an amphibious assault at Gallipoli but it was a failure. The USMC has since used perfected it. It is practically the trademark of the marines. The concept of CAS was invented by the marines and used extensively in the 1920 bannana wars. Airmobility was invented by the USMC and used a lot after Korea, and now every country on earth has it's own form of it. Woot! Your turn.

For example, the British accomplished an amphibious landing at Gallipoli... And what a smashing success that was. However, the Marines went from one end of the Pacific to the other, refining the concept of amphibious assaults into an art form. And btw, Id put Recon Marines up against anybody in the world. All for all, I'd say the SEALs, they are the elite black ops force of the US, the teams are formed from transfered soldiers from the Marine Force Recon, Navy Intel, Army Delta... it's like a gouping of pure badass... thumbs up to them boys in afgan land. Cloney 0 Posted April 3, 2002 I don't think there is a best... It all depends on what you do. Many units are very specialized in what they do. For example. You want to sieze and airfield? Army Rangers or 82nd Abn. You want to assault a Terrorist compound in the middle of the African desert? SAS or Delta You want to sieze an airfield and hold it for a long period of time? USMC You want to train guerillas to overthrow the enemy government? US Army Special Forces You want to make love to the women and drink wine and make friends with everyone? French Army You want to loot and burn the city you just liberated? Egyptian or Syrian Army You want to absolutley positively kill every mutha fucka in the room? GSG-9 You want to sabotage a ship or board a ship and capture the crew? Navy SEALs.

§nake 0 Posted April 3, 2002 you know.. I've even asked a Lieutenant from the Airborne about those babies... all they do is deny deny deny... I went to D.C. last summer for a school trip... we went to a military tatoo (damned they have some good rifleman there) and there were 2 guys, each possessing an M4 with a camera mounted on top, and their helmet had the lens attached over the right eye... and the cords all went to this tiny box on their side... (a 3GHz Supercomputer, at that time, fast)... but it really ticked me off.. I was hoping for the OICW.. and they show me that... SHEESH... ah well... I am sure that we shall see the OICW further in the Urban Battles to come.

The only units in the Marine Corps that uses parachutes is Force Recon and the Marine equivalent of Rangers (forget what they are called) Every Marine I know whines about how thier gear sucks and how underfunded they are. US Special Forces are the best equipped most trained force in the U.S. Takes approx 1 1/2 years to complete all of the training.
