Surround-channel wideness issues? Anyone else?

Recommended Posts

Anyone else plays Arma2 in surround mode (5.1)?

If so:

Did you notice, that when any sound effect is just slightly off the point you are currently looking at, that it vanishes completely from the center-channel and instead is fully played on either left or right channel?

I am able to reproduce it on 2 different PCs and i have direct compared it with Arma1 Surround-Mode and its great in Arma1.

So Arma2 is simply unplayable for me in surround-mode, as i get totally wrong impressions where a shot was coming from or a explosion is happening/whatever other effect.

I think the center channel must be widened and a "overlap" between center and left/right channel aswell as from the left/right to the corresponding rear-left/rear-right, must be there like it was in Arma1s surround mode.

I'm about to file a detailed bug-report with graphics explaining all, IF im not the only one with this Problem...

I get a similar problem but I'm using headphones, anything that "plays" directly in front of me will be barely audible. As soon as I turn the head of the player either way it'll then become clear in which ever ear is facing the sound, this often means I have to turn my head away from peoples faces when I'm talking to them just so I can actually hear what they have to say.

Ι have a 5.1 speaker system and I end up playing with headphones because sound doesn't work as expected. It doesn't work right with headphones either I don't know why... But I've learned to live with it.

Same here. For PvP gaming I set to headphones (2 channels), as 5.1 often makes it

very hard to locate the sound source direction/distance.

Never had any problems with 5.1 3D audio positioning, except for the "narrowness" of the center channel as mr.g-c described.

Yes thats the issue i want to put in the bug-report....

Played with my Denon-Receiver/Klipsch-Speakers/Heco-Subwoofer powered sound system - means when you play with real speakers, its not that very bad somehow - but as soon as i put my 5.1 Headset on, its really unplayable!:(

yeah its nowhere near the "complete" surround that A1 has... Hope they put some time on that in the near future. I guess we just miss the actual H/W accelerated sound of A1.
