They want you to choose one of 2 produkt. if it is vista, they want to know if you want 1. vista basic 32 bit or 2. vista premium 32 bit. It has nothing to do whit 64 bit. you can get the 64 bit version for the same price if you want, just make sure that you PC is 64 bit ready.
no use for a name 0 Posted September 26, 2009 if you're getting a system with less than 4 gigs of RAM, go with 32bit. If not, go with 64 or you'll only be able to use ~3GB (even if the app is 64bit). Personally, if it's possible I wouldn't get any OS pre-installed and just DL the free Win7 builds, burn it, throw it on the system when it arrives, then upgrade when it goes on sale on Oct 22nd

Won't let you D/L it either, but you can pull it from torrents if you already have a key from Microsoft and it will work. But will time out in March.

Its none of my business, but you may prefer to build up your desktop pc. Lets say that... uhm... "Trademark" PCs are pretty much garbage. Unless you are buying a laptop, you will save and/or get a much better pc by buying the parts from hardware stores
kklownboy 43 Posted September 26, 2009 go 64 and home basic... unless you like the cool aero stuff. IMO the cheapest 64bit win7 is the way to go.

Particularly with Windows 7's XP virtualization mode, you can just run the drivers for old hardware in there. And I'd wait the month till Windows 7 is official released. There is if certain drivers aren't supplied for 64-bit os's ;) I have to use 32bit because Actiontec doesn't have any 64bit drivers (at least for Win7) for my wireless USB adapter. I read that I'd need to do a complete format & re-install with the retail version when its released? Edited September 27, 2009 by mlenser spelling -big fingers. dm 9 Posted September 27, 2009 I read that I'd need to do a complete format & re-install with the retail version when its released? Thats the information they're giving at the moment, and its the only reason I'm holding off on getting a new rig. To be honest, for something reasonably cheap like a WLAN adaptor, I'd just get a new one. Odds are that if your adaptor is so old that there's no 64-bit drivers, even a basic new one will be miles better anyway. It's different for things like printers, but there are ways around that (using some kind of printer server, or virtual XP mode)
pchaxor 0 Posted September 27, 2009 my 2 cents Choose whatever path leads you to Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Most OEM's are doing free upgrades for the Vista Premium option. If this is not the case then WAIT for it. I run Win7 Ultimate 64bit and ArmA 2 LOVES it. The drivers are there. No worries. (unless you have legacy ISA card for gawd sakes) !!!! ----> I have Not had 1 single crash since loading this. (Aug. 10th) And yes I am running the FINAL RTM, not Beta. (MPP Subscriber) Good Luck! echo1 0 Posted September 27, 2009 Wouldn't bother with Ultimate, Professional has all the useful features, and is much cheaper. Home Premium would probably be enough for most users.

Unless you are buying a laptop, you will save and/or get a much better pc by buying the parts from hardware stores This is totally true and I agree. Brandname PC manufacturers are so squeezed and under so much pressure to make a profit, that they put the most garbage components in, slap a name on it, and dump it on the public.
