difference between m4 and m16?

Recommended Posts

What's the difference between "rate it can be moved" and "turning speed"? Other than the fact you can move the weapon without turning, but obviously I meant turning the weapon, not the soldier. Anyway, the speed limitation is both a poor and sufficient way to simulate weapon weight. If there is actually an acceleration factor in there too, then it's too weak to have any real significance (in comparison to the difference you'd notice when actually handling the weapons IRL).

there are colision models , there is geometry lod in weapons

shoot man in weapon, you will see :)

try to move in thin corridor you will see

Geometry lod might work for shooting weapons, but collision is the same regardless of the rifle used. Just tested this last night with M16 vs MP5, player would stay at the same distance from the wall, even if the MP5 was much shorter.

If bi could just add one more value on weapon class that would change(increase or decrease) in muzzle velocity on different weapon upon ammo config it would be a step forward

@Scaygoo, maybe it is politician reason aka "buy our or you will get embargo" or etc. ?

there was such situation in past

maybe someone get money ? we had in Poland in 90's similar situation:

- our Glauberyt smg is better than UZI, it has cock mechanism like MP5, so it is more accurate than UZI and there were part of UZIs bought "by someone" while workers in Glauberyt manufactory had no job and food for children , someone bought UZI and was thinking about other foreign weapons :/

similar was with HONKER< it is our Polish jeep , but one famous general get "for private use" Mercedes G and next year army bought much more expensive Mercedes instead of cheaper national production not worse FSR HONKER (screen http://www.armaholic.eu/vilas/scr/npl_a2_1.jpg )

politicians "will" is sometimes something *** , in Poland we even have special anti-corruption bureau agency since some years (politicians fight to delegalize it), cause level of corruption in capitalism is soooo huge

choosing M4 instead of Steyr is for me not clear, Steyr has rail to mount scopes as M4

newest Steyr use Stanag magazines, they have longer barrel and shorter (bullpup) so they are enough accurate and close quaters fights able at one time

i heard about one country in past ca. 15-20 years ago (cannot say which country) which was supposed to buy eastern weapons (Polish production weapons) , there was embargo and they had to buy Colt M16

politics is dirtiest shit ever, learn some more about past , history, actions in which western secret services were killing legally and democraticly chosen pro-communist leaders in Latin America or Africa "cause they were treats for our economy", learn about people fighting with big companies which hurt ecology and mine companies :/

movies with Steven Seagal about mining company is just little touching problem, i know someone from A/N-Z who told me about Sierra Leone and etc.

"freedom" is red of blood , soviets were never sending agents to kill other countries leaders as i know, so who is "evil empire" ? ;)

i don't know what makes Your country leaders choose M4 now, but i know what is past foreign politics of some countries and i know from past some decisions taken by politicians who later were in jail for corruption, but nothing could took back property of "sold for one dollar" whole factories to foreign companies :/

one people have heart, feelings, morality, culture, respect to weak and poor (as John Paul the Second called "meter of humanity is how you treat poor and week") other busines people have only pocket and account , you are from Malasia, so it is other culture than ours here, but i will tell you - i was born and grown in communism, the more capitalism in my country, the more eastern i feel :/

for example it was disrespect in the past to not give seat to old lady in bus, now young man sits and listen loudly to MP3, while tired old lady stands , it is unthinkable for older people

previously he would have to give her sit and loud MP3 should be silent to not disturb other people peace,

i was learned to help old people, i was learned to be honest and say truth, and now i see people making money without morality, girls sleeping with "guy with better car" and etc. and i feel sick of western world

so maybe you in Malasia see it the same and your politicians do not think only about technical and engineering aspects of M4 and Steyr AUG ?

cause in my country many engineers were dishonouring decision about buying UZI and Mercedes G

as PM84 is more accurate and much cheaper and HONKER is much cheaper and it gives employment here

many of our engineering weapons, cars, tanks programs were stopped by politicians who decided to buy "foreign" product :/

there was even accident that some materials, fabrics were from abroad

my neighbour was Doctor assistant (doctor scientific degree) in Kevlar research bureau, it was closed and i heard from him, that in some time our army was buying kevlar products abroad , while our kevlar workers stayed unemployed...

enough off-topic :)

sorry its not game related but i need to ask recently there's talk of Malaysian Army replacing the current Steyr AUG we using now to m4 in the future. Correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't see any other Army use m4 for their infantryman except only on specialized force. Now the our defense ministry think its a good idea for all to use m4, you think this is a wise decision?

As far as I know most of the US Army has transitioned now to the M4, even for regular Line Infantry. The only guys still lugging M16s are rear echelon support.

The M4s are made to such high standards today that the accuracy penalty was deemed negligible, especially at the common MOUT engagement ranges.

Shame though - the Steyr is an awesome rifle (and the only Warfare item we Austrians ever really got right).

Forget about M4 burst or M16A3 because they not using anymore , only M4A1 and A2 mostly A4

That's True ;)

The regulars in the US Army use the 3RB M4. I've also read some people who have served in the army saying that the guns were marked as M4A1s, but were really regular M4s.

The US Navy uses the A3 model, I don't think that either the Army or the Marines ever used them.

Special Forces use the full auto one.

maybe designation difference is caused by:

- manufacturer (at least 3-4 companies do AR-15 family)

- contract sign in forces ?

M4/m16 isnt a too bad rifle for combat AFAIK, what you need to do is to take extra extra care on the weapon so that it works in dusty and dirty place, the real problem is from the shorter 14.5 inch barrel use together with 5.56 nato which afaik is too under powered even in close range, thats why even with all the "buying m4" fuss in the US you will still see a lot of pictures showing soldiers in the field running around with 20 inch barrel m16 or simply pick up some AK and use together with their m4, i still remeber the story of a man get his "accidentally" issused m14 to work(remember, ground troops at work dont give shit about what congress sons of guns want them to do unless forced to)
