Limited number of activations??

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Ive been looking everywhere for an answer to these questions:

1.does my retail key have a limited number of activations? how many times?

2.is there a way to revoke an activation by uninstalling the game?

3.if I run out of activations who should I contact (in other words beg) for more activations?

Now id really REALLY appreciate a straight simple answer here, if your not sure dont say anything.

I've requested an activaion from them several times but no replies, even included all information they requested on their site.

No more purchases from shady digi-distributers for me.

The Sprocket version has:

  • Unlimited activations on the same PC
  • 5 activations on different hardware for 6 months (then you get new 5 activations)

Not sure about others; I would've thought they'd all use the same activation service (SoftWrap) and therefore have the same restrictions?

Is that no activations at all? or just no limit on activations?

either way, as long as theres no limited number of installs i will be happy. you have no idea how many times i need to install these games...

Interesting. There have been a number of Nexway customers who have posted here that said they had been limited to three (and then had to request additional activations). It's come up in several threads.

Good to know, though (I'm still on my first and hopefully won't need to re-install for a few years).

btw: why on earth did you have to re-install "dozens" or times in such a short period?

This is why I always buy a physical copy.

I reinstall alot, testing different OSes, Arma 2 is not the only thing I run :D Must have installed it at least 15 times.

Ive bought over 40 games online and never had any issues with activations. I do preffer the physical copies, but I do enjoy D2D aswell.

Hence why I only use Steam if I'm getting a digitally distributed game.

Same. If for some reason your account got "hacked" or for some reason you couldn't retrieve your password, the steam support are quick and very helpful in fixing it.

no offense, but that sounds like a gigantic waste of time, considering the length of your average game installation procedure...

why would you use your 'active' partition/system to test stuff, anyway? wouldn't it make more sense to do it on a separate partition or system?

This is why I always buy a physical copy.

it's not like that would make any difference with games like Anno 1404, Far Cry 2, Mass Effect or Bioshock.

I prefer them as well.

But BIS has never been very good at getting their product into the hands of the US customers in a timely fashion. At least with a digital option, I was playing on June 20th (a good six weeks ahead of most of my clan who were waiting on hard copies).

nvm, didnt see new posts :)

about digital DLs I always go with steam, unlimited DLs, good prices (weekend offers) and helpful support.

but you need to always check activation policy of the website your buying from...

Reached the no...after I don't know how many installs to get it totally tweaked....and I upgraded the gfx card...their support is not the best in the world...could of course be because it is weekend.

The CD version doesn't have limits as far as I can tell.

This Voids your other questions. Besides how many times do you plan to install this, so many that you are planning the unlocking already? Are you being legal??
