Why my Multiplay so ugly?

why is my Multiplayer looking so ugly? everything is jagged and looks horrible, looks like OFP..

it looks good in Single play........ thanks

OFP definetly looks like *hit nowadays. You don't even need to be so called "gfx whore" to see that.

But on topic i think the server where Relemar has played maybe forced low details to game. Otherwise MP should look exactly like SP.

Nonsense. The graphics may be old but they still look good. Now, if they were buggy as fuck then you could call them bad...

Unless you change your graphics settings, they look exactly the same as they do in singleplayer. Missions can control the view distance and amount of grass you see, but that's about it.

I'll have to agree with Big Dawg on this one. My advice... go buy the biggest magnet you can find and stick it to the side of your hard drive. Problem solved.

it was a comparison, my arma 2 multiplay looks jagged and OFP-ish, in SP its fine, its just MP ;/

On every Server or just on one particular?

I would guess that its one server and this server forces certain graphic settings on all players so they all have the same base to play fair.

Saddly it seems in your case the server forces very low settings.

Terrain detail and view distance are set by the mission, and if mission doesn't set it then it is set by the server, and cannot be changed by the client unless an option is manually directly scripted into the mission by the mission maker. Those 2 settings have a significant effect on how pretty the game looks, but also have significant effects on gameplay, therefore they are enforced.

I still don't understand why you can't set terrain detail to higher and view distance to lower than what the server enforces, though... Shouldn't be that hard for BIS to do, should it? I just hate it when a server runs 4k view distance and grass on and it lags my PC, when all I really need for smooth play is reducing view distance to ~3500.

Couple of missions have grass disabled in their configs, without it even A2 looks almost like OFP :)

It's not just MP... I just thought I'd do a bit of testing and jumped into the editor and set all my video options to MAX (including 10000 view distance) and I've gotta say the draw distance is crap... grass completely dissapears at less than 100m. As we all know this make sniping a little more challenging.

Is this a game engine limitation? :confused:

What's sad about the grass is that with it disabled you see how "flat"/smooth the terrain is, and then remember the grass is just an overlay and the terrain under it is still "flat"/smooth even when grass is turned on. It's not just hurting the looks, it's also hurting the gameplay because outside of towns there's absolutely no cover anywhere other than trees and the occasional stone wall or extremely rare rock. The terrain surface definitely needs more stones/rocks/bumps/etc, much more than it needs the massive foliage that doesn't even get rendered further than ~45m.

OFP originally had a setting for this (setTerrainGrid), affecting bits of microterrain. It lagged horribly and everyone set it to the flattest possible setting as I recall.

Have to say I find OFP graphics quite horrible by todays standards. One thing I noticed is that I get far worse image quality (blurry'ish) if I join someone for MP campaign compared to when I run it solo.
