Kommiekat 12 Posted August 9, 2009 (edited) Sorry for the newb question and/or wrong thread: What is the UAV, what does it stand for and how is it used? I like playing Single mission games, and after Miles gets killed, Shaftoe says I can use the UAV. I clicked on it and noticed a Top-to-Bottom view of the terrain. Have no clue what is going on..... Thanks for you help.....:D Edited August 9, 2009 by Kommiekat

Kommiekat 12 Posted August 9, 2009 Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Seems to be a mobile unit. Guess it won't do me much good in SP games as compared to MP.....

Cobra Pilot 10 Posted August 9, 2009 urm, so do the british Quick question. Do the British use the predator to or do they have their own?
axure 10 Posted August 9, 2009 You're asking in real life? Both Americans and British use also many smaller UAVs. But yes, the Brits also use Predators. BTW, they actually control them from the same base in the US as the Yanks do. (Yeah, there's just one base on Earth that is used to control those large UAVs, and it's located on US mainland. Commands and video feeds are relayed thru a sat link.)

So when some crazy terrorists invade england, and the UAV's are deployed to save us all, they are being controlled from America, even if America is not involved in any way shape or form? Just another excuse for the Americans to get credit for everything! Im only Joking!

axure 10 Posted August 10, 2009 (edited) Lol.. I always thought UAV's would be controlled atleast near where the UAVs were deployed. Small UAVs are. I checked the facts just to be sure and it turns out Predators can be controlled locally. It's the really big ones (Global Hawks, Reapers) that are operated form US mainland. And in case of Reapers, indeed both Brits and Yanks control them from Creech AFB, Nevada. Still, I would bet most of the time Predators would be controlled from there too. Baff1 0 Posted August 10, 2009 The weaponised ones are controlled by the British from The States because they are not allowed to be under NATO command. NATO rules of engagement don't allow drone killings. It's a legal issue. The landings and take off's are still controlled locally.
xclusiv8 10 Posted August 10, 2009 I hate the fact that ingame the UAV camera cant lock on to a possition. BiS or some modder should add that.

Kommiekat 12 Posted August 19, 2009 So, again, like the smoke screens, useless in SP missions, but a bonus for MP......yes?
Atrocious 10 Posted August 19, 2009 Not really useless for SP. You get an idea of the terrain. For example I found the power plant in Elektro right in the beginning of "Razor Two" when I hadn't even moved out of the mobile base. Although I knew nothing about the area, I had the feeling that there is something to find. And my feeling was right. Just check the map while you use the UAV. It shows you where that thing is flying, so you know where to look.
Alex72 1 Posted August 19, 2009 Its a reconnaissance vehicle. Meaning it gives you eyes in the sky without being there. Meaning you can see bases, enemies, troop movements and how the terrain looks around them. So before you plan your attack (SP or MP) you have gotten intelligence of how the situation looks. So yes its good no matter what game mode. :)
