Eagle911 10 Posted July 25, 2009 Hi, i'm new to the ArmA series I love planes, i will love any game dealing with using airplanes. In fact, i'm am going to join Civil Air Patrol next month. I've noticed the big amount of projects going on for creating new vehicles. Many of them are jets. Will we see any improvements in the Air aspect of this game? The land aspect is excellent but the Air seems like it's half finished.

Eagle911 10 Posted July 25, 2009 Countermeasures ... I want countermeasures ... I am enjoying the F-16C mod a lot. The jets have their own flares. And another thing in the mod that BIS completely forgot is a legitimate warning system. It would be nice if on the radar panel inside the plane it showed vehicles and missiles And i would love to be able to dodge missiles. Not just one dodge but to the point where you spend a minute evading a missile. Think of the scene where the two pilots get shot down in Behind Enemy Lines or this
bogdanm 0 Posted July 25, 2009 (edited) I really liked the RKSL flare system, I hope they'll port the system(the one for all ARMA aircrafts) to ARMA2 also. A warning system would give a better realism feeling, but its probably hard to implement. With this features, aircrafts will be a lot more deadly. EDIT: I just had a look at the RKSL flare system in ARMA1 and it has a warning sound system also. I've forgot about it... :D Edited July 25, 2009 by BogdanM
Pouk 10 Posted July 25, 2009 But in the F-16C mod with a flares, the F-16 is almost invincible, just try to fight against it. So yes, we need countermeasures, but we need some balance.

Dodging missiles that are actually aimed at your aircraft is seriously hard...just try the Yugoslavian campaign to see what I mean.
Prodical 0 Posted July 25, 2009 Missile evasion can suck, horribly. I play both Lock On and Falcon, and in both of them the evasion bit sucks, regardless of counter-measures. I think the flight model of the aircrafts in the game should definitely be tweaked, but no where near a realistic setting...no one would fly then. And if it became to technical you would be in the air deciding to engage BVR or Within Visual Range, too much to do for a game that is better at simulating ground combat than air combat. A developer really has to focus only on the air combat if they want to simulate air combat properly, just look at Eagle Dynamics new modules...each one is coming out solo with only that plane to fly, a lot like how Falcon is. Shinobi575 10 Posted July 25, 2009 i have a video of air combat, its not much but if u have some time check it out OR http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQTqwJFuDiI
Redfield-77 10 Posted July 25, 2009 Arma 2 has major limitations in the air combat area. The biggest issue for me being the ceiling. I'd rather drop my LGB's from 35k feet. If flying is all your into play LOMAC or my favorite of all time IL2 and all its wonderful expansions.
Cobra Pilot 10 Posted July 25, 2009 Redfield, Can you give full names of those games please? I was thinking about picking up some good flight sims. :D
bogdanm 0 Posted July 25, 2009 Redfield, Can you give full names of those games please? I was thinking about picking up some good flight sims. :D Lock On Modern Air Combat and IL2 Sturmovik 1946. These are my favorite flight sims also.

Redfield-77 10 Posted July 25, 2009 @ Cobra Pilot If I could only have 1 game for my PC for the rest of my life it would be IL2 Sturmovik. Its amazing with hundreds of flyable aircraft that mirror the real life version with razor precision. I really cant say enough good things about it. I will say this though, If you decide to play MP against other people be prepared to get your ass handed to you for a few weeks.:D Its very competitive and most the guys I played with are real pilots. Cobra Pilot 10 Posted July 26, 2009 Sounds like my kind of game. Ive done a bit of flying IRL myself and loved every second of it. :D

(Enough of my ego ;))If it were more realistic, I would fly more than do ground combat. (I would do that anyway though :D) Yes, I would probably fly more as well...but it won't happen, like I said they would have to devote the entire game to air combat in order to simulate it properly. This is being done in the DCS modules, the entire module is devoted to only one plane, a lot like Falcon did it. I wouldn't be surprised if it were easier in real life than on a simulator, I've met a few F-16 pilots who said the same thing about Falcon 4.0/AF as well. I think most simulators are assuming certain conditions instead of simulating them, I know Falcon did this a lot with certain behaviours of missiles and planes alike. The problem would still be simulating the aircraft, and the only way I've ever seen that done properly is if that aircraft is the sole game and there isn't anything else in the game (Falcon, F/A-18 Super Hornet, Lock On, Jane series, DCS: Black Shark/A-10 coming soon).
