Creating Custom Commands?

Recommended Posts

If you go to your command menu in-game (where you can say dismount, or go on the communications tab ect.) there is a tab named 'Custom'. I think I know it is where you can create your own commands (eg. a guy made one that made an 'ahhhhhhhhhh' noise, and it showed up on radio subtitles as well)

But how do I make my own, with the sound and the words in the subtitles? I can not find a search button on the forum, and I have looked through many pages but have not found any topics linked to this.

If you place .ogg files in a folder called "sound" (or is it sounds with an 's', I can't remember, try both) in your user profile folder, they will appear in the 'Custom' section of the command menu. The text that's shown should just be the file name of the sound file (without the extension of course).

I can't tell you the specific details about the required format of the sound files either other than that they be .ogg (and I'm not sure if other file types are supported).

back in OFP and Arma you had to make a .ogg file of a recording and place it in a folder somewhere in your directory where you save game is saved,

I got it, for those who want to know how to do this then:

Create a folder called 'Sound' in: My Documents --> Other Arma 2 Profiles --> [Name of your profile]

Then just add ogg 44100hz 8 bit MONO CBR 32kilobytes type files in it, but the name of the files are what comes up in the subtitles ingame.

Then ingame if you open your customs tab you should have an option of selecting your sound/message.

don't use wav files, they are huge and prolly lag the server..

only use a few seconds and convert to ogg 44100hz 8 bit MONO CBR 32kilobytes

Many (if not most) servers limit the size of custom files (I think the default is still 50kb) since they get forced on everyone playing. Some servers restrict them altogether.

I smile everytime an admin bans someone spamming customs. Best if they are kept on m private servers for playing with friends.

ymmv

Yes that's what I was unsure about but this looks correct. Use this format since .wav files will almost certainly be trouble in MP.

How do I get my wav file(s) into that OGG 44100hz 8 bit MONO CBR 32kilobytes format? I downloaded some free trail version and that only converts them into a regular OGG file (that doesn’t work in game).

I've always just used "Ogg Drop".

Free. Simple to use.

Always worked with ArmA and my oggs work with ArmA2

Is that 50KB per sound file or all of them together.

All I want is to create about 5 that call out things such as: 'Whats the plan?' and 'I need back-up ASAP'.

50kb per. And that can vary server-to-server depending on host settings.

But keep in mind, those get rammed down every user's throats that logs in....which in itself is one reason some admins don't allow them. Just more files/time at the "wait for server" screen.
