LJF 0 Posted July 14, 2009 It seems that probably 95% of games are Coop, and the ones that aren't are empty. PvP is an endangered species now or something. I've only played a single game of PvP in ArmA2 since I got it a week ago and that was only for a few minutes before the game ended. Where do I go to find PvP games? Coop is dead boring, I can drop in some AI in the editor for that, I want something challenging. I'd also like to play A2 tactically. Oh, and I live in Australia :( I've seen a few PvP servers but none with a ping of under 250 ... Any ideas?
manberries 0 Posted July 14, 2009 Well the warfare missions are tvt (team versus team, you wont find many non team deathmatches out there). Servers that are more tactical in nature play some tvt every now and then. Overall, looking at the mp list i can find a healthy list of tvt servers with good pings. However, i live in the central USA with a 10 meg cable internet connection. Translation: I am in one of the best places in the world for game server pings. I cant help you with your ping if thats the issue.
LJF 0 Posted July 14, 2009 Yeah ... I'm boned ... Everyone in Australia plays Coop ....
BLSmith2112 0 Posted July 14, 2009 Coop should be banned for 1 month I swear. I'm not playing Arma2 like OFP for 6 years on some Human Vs. Brainless AI ideology. OFP had it right, CTF/DM/Coop/RTS-CTI, a nice mix. Now its full blown retarded.. I dont know WTF people are smoking. /rant. *sigh*
jackthe®ipper 10 Posted July 14, 2009 Couldn't agree more. More PvP is needed, even if it has Ai to fill in some spaces.
thomas82 10 Posted July 14, 2009 i played in a ctf-clan back in the ofp-days.. all the clans left the series when arma1 came out... 1 reason => movement/aiming
LJF 0 Posted July 14, 2009 I really want to play an all-human game of ArmA2 using Ground/Air units as well as infantry, something that would not only be "epic" but also tense and tactical. If it were possible to keep everyone interested I'd do it with no respawns too, just two armies fighting to the last man :D
Pyrodox 0 Posted July 14, 2009 Every once in a while I get onto a PvP server with a good amount of people playing... It almost invariably turns into a TK-fest at each base, people flying helos full of other players into trees, and everyone taking the vehicles and planes out solo and leaving them in the middle of nowhere so no one else can ever get out of the spawn area. If you really want some good PvP you're probably going to have to join a clan or tournament. I recently joined a group called Charlie Foxtrot that does PvP tournaments/wars. manberries 0 Posted July 14, 2009 I hate any mission where its just some units spawning next to some vehicles with a bf2 style gameplay; whether it be tvt or coop. Once the mission makers get going you will start seeing missions with defined objectives, specific roles that cannot be changed, and a 1 death only policy. Those are by far the best as everyone starts in a squad and knows what they have to do. Including a real command structure.
cartier90 0 Posted July 14, 2009 Sorry to sound noobish but the only game Ive played online is GTA4. Can anyone explain what a clan is ? - I appreciate its a group of online gamer - but what type of games do they play and how can I join ?
Steakslim 1 Posted July 14, 2009 A clan is simply a group of guys who work or join together to run/play a particular game or games that they all share interests in. Some clans can be massive and support several games, or just one game, and vise versa. Pretty much if you want to find an ArmA related clan, aside from the 2 obvious ones Tactical Gamer and ShackTac, just join some servers that are ran by a particular clan. While in check to see if any members of that clan are in there, usually sporting a "clan tag" in their name to identify themselves as a member. If you like how they go about doing things, and run the server, ask if they are taking new members/recuits, and they'll likely let you join aftery applying on their site/forums. Most clans are a good bunch of guys and usually you can find one with similar interest to you.
cartier90 0 Posted July 14, 2009 good stuff, would I go through the 'multiplayer' part of the ARMA menu ?, doesnt seem particularly intuitive....

Can anyone explain what a clan is ? - I appreciate its a group of online gamer - but what type of games do they play and how can I join ? Your UK based right? Have a look at www.rustyinplaces.org , its a clan for over 21's (or we have a cadet membership 18-21 in special cases), run by a bunch of ex-services guys and its been stable as a rock for a few years now. ( I say that because one thing you'll learn about clans is that they tend not to stick around.) Or jump on the server and say I sent you and the members (they will be the ones with [RIP] before their names) will help you out.
Steakslim 1 Posted July 14, 2009 I don't think the menu can be much more intuitive? ...well, aside from missing some features, but it's pretty straight forward.. Basically you find a server to play on. There isn't any catalogue of ArmA clans in the ArmA menu. You have to find them yourself. You might not even find one you like for a while. Can anyone explain what a clan is ? - I appreciate its a group of online gamer - but what type of games do they play and how can I join ? Clans are generally game-centric... I.E. there will be ArmA II clans, CoD Clans, Battlefield 2 Clans, etc. It's mainly a group, dedicated to practicing and playing their chosen online game together. There are also tournaments for games like ArmA II, I'm a member of Charlie Foxtrot which is basically a tournament, it has groups of players that practice and play together as units, set up by the tournament staff. CF is pretty much a "virtual war" in which two sides play scheduled games against each other and keep track of the wins and losses. There's a lot of groups, it seems like with ArmA II if you want a good, tactical experience playing online, PvP tournaments and clans that compete in them are your best bet. While you can "pub" in the public servers, the public games have a greater chance of degenerating into team-killing festivals and general asshattery.
{S8G}Rub!c0n 10 Posted July 14, 2009 search in filters for HOLD,PvP,{S8G} clan.. we got a 64 dedi server that runs hold missions only :)
Tom_Anger 0 Posted July 14, 2009 PVP is all we like to play on the Urban Resistance server. What is hosted is Berzerk, Advance & Secure, or WARFARE type missions. If we ever do coop it is on a scheduled event. As mentioned - Use HOLD in the filter and you will find the servers hosting. You'd also be surprised when you join one of these how many start to filter in. URBAN RESISTANCE http://urclan.org is my choice :)
--DST-- Anth 10 Posted July 14, 2009 You wont find much pvp in arma 2 im afraid its made more towards co-op. I wouldent recommend people to buy this game if they are after ctf, c&h etc the anims just wont work for it. There just to clunky to use.

There just to clunky to use.[/quote']..this is one of those players (clans) who left the series when arma1 came out.. same for me (GGX John) .. hi anth :-D ofp had much better animations (it wasnt bf or cs-like) .. but it was possible to react / aim faster .. ctf was fun
sbsmac 0 Posted July 14, 2009 I understand where you're coming from Anth but since you've made a few CTF missions I guess you still hold out some hope for Arma2. Personally I think it's improved from Arma even if it's still clumsier than OFP used to be. There still seems to be a bit of a problem with animations not always terminating and there's an annoying bug where your weapon-stance keeps getting switched back to 'safe' at random times but I'm finding it quite enjoyable. And to answer the original poster.... CTF games can often be found on the following servers... DST SBS OWM and I'm sure there are more.
--DST-- Anth 10 Posted July 14, 2009 (edited) I do hold hope for bis improving the animations they have improved but only slightly but on the other hand I couldent care less either! They are still not good enough to get a good ctf game going unless you like to stay at corners all day or lie in the grass. I give this game a while to try but we are all moving to ofp2 when its released so this is just a time killer for us. Ofp2 will be a lot better for us then this as pvp players im 95% sure. Johns been lucky enough to play it and its a lot more like ofp than this he said. Theres not much skill needed in this game with the current animations its just a 50/50 chance of whos gonna die. Standing is quicker to kill people than crouching as the accuracy is around the same which is b/s. (Takes ages to crouch anyway) After a running a little while your aim is all over the place even after a short distance?? Also after running I depress my key to stop the character and the character keeps running which gives me the player no contol over what im doing really. You can probably see that the community is pretty much a joke atm for pvp, on the other hand co-op is going erm ok which is what its made for and its sole purpose? Well put it this way theres more people playing ofp ctf than arma 2 that tells you how well its doing. Edited July 14, 2009 by [-DST-] Anth
.kju 3244 Posted July 15, 2009 Anth, please report bugs in the A2 CIT. Addon use it not an option for you?
whisper 0 Posted July 15, 2009 Anth, please report bugs in the A2 CIT.Addon use it not an option for you? CTF crowd is anti-addons :) Seeing their public servers and number of people on it, I can see why
.kju 3244 Posted July 15, 2009 Well addons can be client side only. Only the server admin needs to allow them. It is up to the players to get gameplay improving addons.
