Wifout Teef 10 Posted July 2, 2009 (edited) Hello, is there any way to fix the pasty ground that you see at a distance? Just make it a bit more clear and realistic looking? Here is the pasty ground in the distance Zoomed in, much easier to see This REALLY bothers me because it looks hideous, takes away from the realistic feel, and makes it too easy to spot distant enemies. I tried increasing the Fillrate to the maximum level just to see what it did and it did not help at all. I am running everything on High/Very High with the fillrate @ 100% (1440x900), and with AA and shadows on Low. My specs: 9800 gtx+ 3gb RAM DDR 2.4 ghz Quad Core Processor Windows Vista 32 bit Now for my other problem. I get oddly low FPS for my specs on all settings. In a city I get 20 or under on high/very high and only 40 on the lowest possibly settings in the exact same spot. Anyone have a solution to this extremely odd problem? Peonza 10 Posted July 2, 2009 go to nvidia controll panel, force AA off, max prerendered frames 1-3.. About grass..probably there is no setting and not gonna be , to render grass 500 meters around you, that would make to kneel even most powerfull pc's i guess
Wifout Teef 10 Posted July 2, 2009 I've been experimented a bit with the prerendered frames thing. It's honestly hard to tell if making it higher really smooths it out significantly. Mine was already on 3. I tried multiple levels and I'm leaving it at 8 currently. It's hard to tell. My mind may be just playing tricks on me but it seems to run faster at 8 but I really don't know. My game seems to start getting choppy when I turn around or look around and the terrain and stuff has to be loaded quickly. How would I make it so it doesn't reduce FPS so much when I turn around and such?

I think you'd either need an extremely fast HDD (like a solid-state HD); or BIS needs to optimize the rendering better. I think most people have this problem As for the OP, that's just the terrain modeled without the grass clutter. Like PEONZA said if they modeled grass that far out pretty much any system would be unable to run it. To see how much of an impact it has, turn your terrain detail to the lowest setting and watch your frames gain like 20FPS (at least on my system)
Dr.Pulp 0 Posted July 2, 2009 The "pasty ground" is called postprocessing! Disable it and it will look fine ;-)
paragraphic l 2 Posted July 2, 2009 go check in your "ProfileName.arma2" config file if shaderquality=10 that might help you improve on the ground textures. This does cause a performance hit if you have it really low you can go just a bit higher offcourse.
-=seany=- 5 Posted July 2, 2009 (edited) hmm, lots of strange suggestions. :) The "pasty" ground you are referring to is caused by how well defined the textures are drawn in the distance. This is directly affected by how high you have Anisotropic filtering set to. From your screen shots I'm guessing that you already have AF set to its highest in your Arma graphics settings. Go into your options and Disable AF. Now go into Nvidia control panel and to your arma profile and force AF to x16. This will result in much sharper textures in the distance. It looks a bit more grainy, but that is the cost of sharp textures. I prefer it. See what you think ;) Oh, and to anyone with a GFX card from the last 4-5 years or so do your self a favour: Crank AF up to is highest for god sakes :), either in game or via your driver's control panel. It has no performance impact whatsoever and makes the textures and grass look way better About your FPS: My belief is that whatever way they have done the buildings in Arma2, they are way too hard on the cpu compared to Arma1. This may because of the new damage, I don't know. But compared to Amra1 they kill the cpu, which is quite odd considering Arma2 is supposedly Multicore and Arma1 was not...go figure. Your test of all low settings gives me an interesting idea. It would be curious to see what everyone's fps is when they go to a predefined point in the most built up city and turn all the settings to low, to see what is the highest fps they can achieve. I think the results would be interesting to say the least. I reckon most people (even with Core2Quad's, OCing, PhenomII's or i7's) would struggle to get over 30 fps, which is ridiculous..
