Overwhelming 10 Posted June 27, 2009 I have a brand new computer, so it's fresh and clean. In the first day, Arma 2 ran very well with many options in high and very high and a viewing distance of 3600m. Resolution: 1680x1050. After many hours playing, I've installed the recent update to the 1.02 patch. Played just 20 minutes, with AA on, and everything was good, no performance drop noticed. Today I started the game, and I noticed a performance drop for no reason. Then I started to notice how the textures take too long to load if at all. I was looking to a weird soldier, until finally the textures loaded and I could see his face and clothes in more detail. Notice that the soldier was very near to me, so I think it's not the LoD thing. Now almost every object in the game remains with very low resolution texture, only getting better when I look directly to it for a long time. No matter the distance. And some objects, at the same distance, will remain in low res. I also notice that there's some popup in graphics (like a whole building coming out of nothing while I could se another one right BEHIND it). Anyway, I tried to lower down my graphical options. Tried everything, including the resolution, but the problem remains!! Even in 800x600 with everything on low, I can see those textures taking forever to load, some insisting in not appearing. I'm really disapointed with all this. Specially because the game ran well in the beggining. Apart from some automatic Windows Updates, I didn't change anything in my system. BTW, here's my specs: Core i7 920 ASUS GTX 285 1GB 6GB DDR3 1600MHz (CL8) RAM A fast single plate 7200 rpm hard drive. New, no fragmentation yet. What could be the problem? Any solution? Anyone with the same problem?
kklownboy 43 Posted June 27, 2009 did you use the same shortcut, or did you make a new one? (will have the latest 1.02 that way) Do you leave your comp on 24/7, or have you rebooted since your updates from windows? Chk your arma2.cfg.
Overwhelming 10 Posted June 27, 2009 (edited) did you use the same shortcut, or did you make a new one? (will have the latest 1.02 that way) Do you leave your comp on 24/7, or have you rebooted since your updates from windows? Chk your arma2.cfg. Same shortcut. I've rebooted after the updates and no, I don't leave my comp on 24/7... BTW, I'm using Windows VIsta 64bits Home Premium. Anti-virus didn't find any infection. I'm noticing something right now: My hard drive, after formatation, is 465GB big. In the C: root, selecting all files and folders (including hidden ones), I have about 53GB occupied. Going to My Computer, it says I have 350GB free... If 465 - 53 = 412GB 412 - 350 = 62GB lost somewhere! Edit: 347GB free now (after defragmentation). That means I have 65 missing GB somewhere. I've downloaded WinDirStat, and it shows my used 53GB plus 60GB of "unknown". It doesn't say where in my hard drive... :(:(:( Edit 2: I'm thinking if with all these updates, Vista made many restore points, eating up space. Maybe? Is there a way to delete some restore points? 15% of my hard disk space would be about 70GB, so those 65GB "missing" space might be from those system restore points? Sorry fir all this messy situation, guys. :( Edit 3: My arma 2 cfg file: language="English"; adapter=-1; 3D_Performance=93750; Resolution_Bpp=32; Resolution_W=1680; Resolution_H=1050; refresh=60; Render_W=1680; Render_H=1050; FSAA=2; postFX=0; HDRPrecision=8; lastDeviceId=""; localVRAM=2007498752; nonlocalVRAM=2007498752; ---------- Post added at 06:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:51 PM ---------- I don't know if it's relevant, but I noticed another bug: when I change graphic settings, the graphics become extremely blured. If I press ESC to bring the menu and then ESC again, everything fine (it's as if the game forgot to take out the blur that comes up when you pause the game with a menu). ---------- Post added at 06:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:04 PM ---------- Ok, about the hard drive space issue, I've cleaned some restore points and I got 5GB back. I guess that if I cleaned everything, I would get those 65GB back. So I assume there's nothing wrong with the hard drive. And I checked there's no virus, spyware, malware or whatever. Overwhelming 10 Posted June 27, 2009 There's your problem. I think Arma 2 supports Vista 64-bit. Besides, it worked very well yesterday. My guess is that the update of the 1.02 messed up things (I didn't play test properly or time enough to notice the change after installing the update, so only today I noticed it). Besides that, I don't have a clue about what could be the problem... :(

Overwhelming 10 Posted June 28, 2009 (edited) I know it sounds like I'm calling you an idiot, but redownload the patch, and make sure it's the right one? The German patch was different to the UK patch I believe. (Only just woken up so apologies if I'm a) wrong, and b) a bit incomprehensible) I bought the international version (from a UK online store) and then applied the 1.02 patch (never played any previous version). Then, after the demo was released, an update to that 1.02 patch was released. I've installed it. What drivers do you have installed and did you try any fixes for vista64?Also did you encounter any errors when installing the patch? The graphic drivers are the latest (186.18), the game patches as well. I've tried the already mentioned -winxp and -maxmem2047 commands, with no results (coincidentially or not, only after that the game started crashing as well. I've already tried to execute the game without those commands, but it still crashes). I'm also noticing something, but it can be just coincidence: the game is more prone to crash when I'm around that south-eastern town (the name starts with an E, I don't remember the czech name). Edit: Elektrozavodsk I guess I can't re-patch the game, so I'll try to uninstall the game, then install again up to 1.02, without the latest update I can see that the 1.02 patch available for download already includes the update. Duxa 10 Posted June 28, 2009 i had slow texture load too.. u gotta use 182.50 driver from nvidia (april) it solves the slow loading issue. Bulldogs 10 Posted June 28, 2009 You can also goto Control Panel->System-> Advanced system settings -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> click the + next to display adapters -> right click your display adapter then click properties -> driver tab -> Roll Back Driver But I'd honestly suggest uninstalling the driver, then use an nvidia driver removal tool (before restarting your computer) then restart your computer and install a new driver. Overwhelming 10 Posted June 28, 2009 Thanks for the tips. I've installed the 182.50 drivers, downloaded directly from the ASUS site. I did a fresh install and updated the game to 1.02. Video options: everything normal, except video memory very high. View distance of 2000 @ 1680x1050 The texture problem still happens, although not as severe. (I wonder what will happen when I reach "Razor Two" mission in the campaign, where all my problems started). Also tried the tips in the sticky thread: PhysiX off, -winxp. I don't notice improvments. Alas, I think that with PhysiX on and without the -winxp command, it's a little better or at least the same. Most important, the game isn't crashing anymore (in 40 minutes of play). The texture and object popup is still too slow, but better than this morning. I'm very forgiving about graphics, but this texture problem is still a little bit beyond what I'm able to forgive. It's too distracting. I'm thinking about installing 186.18 nvidia drivers again, but I don't know if the crashes stopped because I've downgraded the drivers or if it was because I've installed the game again... Overwhelming 10 Posted June 28, 2009 NVIDIA OWNERS! Set Max pre rendered frames to 8 in the advanced 3d settings for global or ArmA 2. This improves performance vastly. This has helped. I'm now playing @ 1680x1050 with the following options: texture detail: high video memory: very high anisotropic: very high antialiasing: normal shadows: normal texture detail: high object detail: high post processing: disabled (i don't like the motion blur effect) Texture loading problem: better. But not entirely fixed. There's still noticeable texture popup (like watching a bald soldier and then suddenly an helmet materealizes in his head). But I need to test this more. Anyway, I'm going from desperate to only annoyed right now :D. I just hope that when I wake up tomorrow, performance will stay the way it is now, until further improvements from BIS. Framerate: much better. But far from optimal. But very playable right now, and that's enough for me. Edit: still with the 182.50 drivers. Should I try the latest now? No, the newer drivers are problematic (and not just with A2 I might add). The texture loading seems to be a problem under Vista/Win 7 64 as I rarely (if ever) see it in Win XP 64 but it sill happens under Win7/Vista 64 no matter how much I play around with it. Eth PS : I also found that turning off Hyper threading (Its a BIOS setting) under Vista/Win 7 made a noticeable difference in terms of smoothness/texture loading. [/color]Ok, about the hard drive space issue, I've cleaned some restore points and I got 5GB back. I guess that if I cleaned everything, I would get those 65GB back. So I assume there's nothing wrong with the hard drive. And I checked there's no virus, spyware, malware or whatever. Shouldn't be anything wrong with the drive. It might be space set aside for various things, like the recycle bin or, as you noted, restore points.
Overwhelming 10 Posted July 4, 2009 The game keeps crashing. Sometimes it just exits the game, although the Arma2.exe is still running in the task manager. Sometimes it's suddenly, some other times I see texture corruption before the crash... :(

Starfire 10 Posted July 4, 2009 Also since your card is an asus nvidia card i recommend you download the latest driver for it from asus website and not form nvidia website. I would not do this. Download the 182.50 drivers, not the ASUS ones.
