edenborn 10 Posted June 21, 2009 completely absent in Arma2? jesus, you roll out in a tank in the middle of the night (which happens to be pitch black) and theres just no way of seeing a gdamn thing. Arma2 comes with the "ultra realistic modern warfare simulator" title and yet theres no proper forward looking infra red for any of the vehicles. Even project reality pulls it off better with an outdated BF2 source. im very disappointed.

Alex72 1 Posted June 21, 2009 There is FLIR in ARMA2. UAV's have it. Soon enough it will come all over the game.
edenborn 10 Posted June 21, 2009 let some job for the addon makers, will you ? this shouldnt be left for the addon makers, its a vital and key component to modern warfare so Bis should be cleaning up their own game and getting these sort of issues sorted. Right now Arma2 could just as easily be packed with Panzerkampfwagens and T-34's, there just isnt any difference at this time. and no, i wont be turning on the headlights to search for enemies, thats the last thing one does in hostile territory.... PuFu 4600 Posted June 21, 2009 get off from that camel hump you standing now. Excuse the mortals over at BIS for not fulfilling your expectations. if PR has it all, why did you bothered buying this game then?
sobrek 0 Posted June 21, 2009 oh, at least we have stabilized guns Of course, the T34 has not ^^
Alex72 1 Posted June 21, 2009 For now you have NVG in tanks. Use them. I guess you wont (but will secretly) be here when ACE2 hits us. I can assure you of miracles when that happens. Even if you think BIS should "do it all" it doesnt make the fact any smaller that the ACE crew will create a lot of what you want in this game (possibly more - in areas you never thaught of). If you want to leave - bye bye. Or if you want to have fun and stop moan about some features for the time being - up to you. Alex
EricM 0 Posted June 21, 2009 (edited) You have flir in uav and night vision (light intensification) in everything else. The whole argument of "can't see anything" is just a key away : "n" Arma is doing so much already, it can't do everything perfect out of the box. Cut the guys some slack. Edit : PR is a mod. Arma 2 has it out of the box, though not on tanks yet. Edited June 21, 2009 by EricM

One has every right to express ones thoughts and disappointments regarding a game ones paid for. If everyone here said, we love it, theres no bugs and theres nothing lacking, BIS would be equally disappointed because there would be no one giving them feedback. please go about your usual business and keep forum policing. :p

If everyone here said, we love it, theres no bugs and theres nothing lacking, BIS would be equally disappointed because there would be no one giving them feedback. Over here on these forums, you'll find we actually offer the guys @BIS 'constructive' feedback. Looking at what you said, well you basically slated it, no mention of how it should be done, just an unfair 'comparison'. Why not, stop, think, an offer your opinion on 'exactly' how you'd like to see it implimented..Maybe that would get you what you want ? Instead of basically moaning, at the end of the day you could have waited for the demo before buying it.. You have the game now, it IS worth the money but you'll only see that if you stick around :) These games have a cult style status, you either love them or hate them AND most of the folks round here LOVE them :) O btw, You'll also find that this community is full of addon makers, one of these addons called ACE will probably fix the issue you've addressed as well as add some fantastic new features & content ;). Shame you just insulted one of its team....:(
frederf 0 Posted June 21, 2009 There is FLIR in ARMA2. UAV's have it. Soon enough it will come all over the game. Video? As far as I know there's no decent IR imaging in ArmA2. If it's like this: then one is rather easily deceived by some cheap aperture work and gray scale NVG effects. This is what proper IR imaging in ArmA2 should look like: I sort of blame BIS for not including IR imaging in ArmA2. It's clear that the engine supports it (VBS2) it's just been their priority. I think it's done with a "heat" texture layer (likely rvmat) that's selectively visible. So many vehicles and weapons in ArmA2 use IR imaging that it would be pretty well justified: AH-1Z, Su-34, Javelin, M1A2, T90, etc.
Alex72 1 Posted June 21, 2009 Not as good as VBS and better than ArmA first video. You can scroll mouse roller for contrast back and forth to get that pure white from vehicles and units. Not super but its there and im sure it can be made better now that we have the base for it. EDIT: Let me tell my mate to run the UAV and get a screen. Hang on. frederf 0 Posted June 21, 2009 Thanks much. I was surprised that there was no YouTube of it yet.
Alex72 1 Posted June 22, 2009 Ok here goes. My mate tweaked the contrast a bit quick just to show it. I know its not VBS2 VTK (what i really would want - gods know that). But im glad we have this to start off from at least. Im sure modders will do wonders with this. And it does look real good from time to time. This was taken daytime. UAV1 UAV2 UAV3 UAV4 UAV5 UAV6 UAV7 UAV8 UAV9 And im sure there are no vids cause not many knows how to set it up. Alex
frederf 0 Posted June 22, 2009 How'd you get the IR mode on? I flew around in a UAV gunner just now and there's no visible "switch" for it. Also don't get me started on UAVs. I don't think BIS understands what the U in UAV stands for.
Alex72 1 Posted June 22, 2009 (edited) Hehe. Its explained in the BIKI over modules. But here goes: Add unit (player) Add manned UAV (FLYING) Add UAV module Add EMPTY UAV HQ from WARFARE BUILDINGS Now sync all pieces to the UAV module. So unit, UAV itself and UAV HQ synced to the UAV module. In game - walk up to UAV HQ and youll get a action up "UAV". Voila - FLIR is yours! Scroll middle mouse for contrast (very high to very low). And go to map to set its "merry go around path - anywhere on map". Also Q and Z for umm altitude i think and W and S for speed up and down. EDIT: Also you can stabilize camera since 1.02. EDIT2: I dont know how 1.02 is but in 1.01 i remember the UAV didnt obey when it "noticed" targets. It didnt obey altitude but started diving and do all sorts of stuff. It needs to be locked to the circle we tell it to fly. Not dive onto the targets and get shot up. Alex Edited June 22, 2009 by Alex72
frederf 0 Posted June 22, 2009 (edited) Ah, gamelogics and sync lines, how very ArmA2 of it! That seems to be the way of things now. I'll give it a shot. Perhaps setting the UAV AI to "status blue" which is otherwise known as "careless" will keep it from acting of its own free will? --- Ok I see the IR. It's not good but it's not bad. I find it very irritating that there's no on/off switch to it. Real UAV would have TV or IR option. Also why is the most zoomed out 1.3x? It's really tough to see things up close with such a small FOV. I also haven't been able to steer it yet. It doesn't remember set speed or altitude if you exit and return and the defaults are way too low altitude. Oddly "raise nose" and "lower nose" are the speed controls. The UAV pilot man also ignores the status blue state and dives in after targets which is pretty annoying. If the thing gets hit do you get 2x soldiers bailing out of the UAV or no? Edited June 22, 2009 by Frederf
Alex72 1 Posted June 22, 2009 I think its been tested. But with waypoint onto the UAV with "careless". Maybe done anoher way? Alex
soul_assassin 1750 Posted June 22, 2009 I've managed to adopt this system for vehicles. Stay tuned.
Alex72 1 Posted June 22, 2009 (edited) You are tonights...no this whole days hero! :) Serious though - i knew that someone with brains would do it. So tired of all with no faith on these boards. Hey OP - see?! Youll have IR in your tanks. When? We wont tell ya. Sounds awesome SA. Cant wait to see more. Thanks man. soul_assassin 1750 Posted June 22, 2009 Trying to take a screenshot but PrintScreen seems not to work in A2 :S any suggestions?
Alex72 1 Posted June 22, 2009 My friend gave me the UAV images from windowed ARMA2 with print screen. -window Then open photoshop (or what you use) choose NEW to make a new blank image, and then edit - paste. Alex
soul_assassin 1750 Posted June 22, 2009 there you go :) Of course this is pseudo-flir as defined by BIS for the UAV system, some clever postprocessing. Brightness can be adjusted but for now (ive only tweaked this for an hour or so) only through the script.
