no flying missions!

Recommended Posts

i love to pilot Cobra and black hawks, WHY IS THERE NO FLYING MISSIONS IN THE CAMPAIGN? We don't all like infantry, we want flying missions.

Is there ANY mission where I can jump in a Cobra or any aircraft? if so please tell me, i cant find anything.. i want to fly myself..

Could always make one, quite easy to whip up a basic ground attack mission

well common sense would tell you that your soldier in the campaign is not gonna be some sort of super soldier who can jump into every vehicle and do every job type..

Relemar its easy - open the editor place your helicopter (F1-Unit) and somewhere two OPFOR tank platoons (F2-Group) goto preview and take them down.

Look into http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA:_Mission_Editor

and download + read the http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=4847

(still for ArmA but most things work in Arma2)

put out a playable soldier or pilot or whatever class you want to be, then F1 again on some empty place nearby and click where it says side or faction and tell it to be empty, only works for vehicle section and not soldiers :D

click ok and you have placed out your first empty vehicle :)

Now go on and click on some other empty spot and repeat and change the vehicle type and hit ok.

Now you got two empty vehicles :)

drag a box like you can drag a box in windows to select several folders or files and select the empty vehicles and your soldier and move them with by clicking down and holding left mouse button i belive and drag them to where a airfield is located on the map.

You are in for a treat Relemar since missions will start coming out almost everyday as soon as many have this game. There will be a lot of air missions soon. Believe that. ;)

Best is to learn basic mission making wich isnt that hard. Read Mr.Murrays guide wich was posted by NoRailgunner (also new ARMA2 version coming soon! Old one works though) and when you have a question post it in the mission editing section here on the forum (look for it first. Most questions answered - search button). And in a while you will be able to be the guy pumping out nice air missions to us all. :)

May I suggest the use of the Armory? I think that BI made it exactly for those who dont know how to use the editor. There was a cheat (arma1) that allowed you to unlock everything, but I don't remember it...

Another way you might be able to do it is:

Scenarios > My missions > Select New mission create > Choose Template e.g. Basic and expand it to choose your side e.g BlueFor > Then click on Units and select Players Group then choose the class and number of units you want e.g. Class: Air Unit: AH-1z 1 Count: 1. OK

Do the same for the outpost guards if you want to change their units. Now go back and select Edit beneath Parameters and double click on the map and you will be able to place whatever various opposing units. You can move your starting location my dragging the insertion icon to where ever you want. Just click Preview to play and if you like it, save it.

I'm glad the campaign is cohesive in story instead of the typical "mixed flavor bag hey look at all the stuff arma/ofp can do!" style.

Although I wouldn't mind flying missions, I have to agree. Operating a tank might be possible to learn in a 'crash course', and the ranks of such jobs seems to fit good with lower ranked units such as those in the campaign. Flying a chopper or a jet fighter is not something I would have settled with a crash course in, pardon the pun :) Also it would be hard to fit all the guys into usable roles maybe?

But I wouldn't mind having a separate campaign that was based on flying. Hmm, maybe even an evade from north to south escape mission navigating by stars? Ahh, the memories :)

There should be some single missions (outside) that cover the "grab bag" of goodies, right?

I haven't played the campaign at all or even the game yet but I would've liked there to be flying missions in the campaign. I liked the way ArmA had it where you could choose to complete certain side missions that would help the main ones. I just wish it had stuck with consistent characters not just here is a random guy out here and another out here. I don't think the ArmA campaign was all that great but I did like the side mission idea.

It would be cool if there was a pilot for side missions who kind of had his own story line going through part of it. I tend to fight as infantry but I don't mind a change of pace every once in a while. Although I am sure the ArmA II campaign is excellent.

(In real life, no one is a tank commander, jet fighter pilot and general infantry in one conflict - THAT is unrealistic.)

What I thought would have been a good idea is having a section for categorised missions or even a seperate campaign for each specialisation? A heli section where you are just a helicopter pilot. Eg: for one mission you have three drop-offs and pick ups. But half way through, one of the infantry teams you dropped off gets ambushed by a roadside bomb and you need to return to the drop off to pick up two injured soldiers and lift them to the field hospital. (You'd have to come in fast and get out faster to avoid enemy fire.)

In a another mission category (infantry), playing as a AT specialist, your team is dropped off by the same helicopter (this time run using the AI) and five minutes in, you are hit by the same roadside bomb and have to call the chopper back to lift out two of the injured. But of course, it doesn't always happen that one or two soldiers get badly injured.

This way you could have categorised missions which all link together and gives you an overall picture of the theatre of war (it would be a good intro to what is possible in editing).

I guess the only problem with this setup you might get deja vu...

It doesn't matter to me.. But in Arma 1 your soldier did not fly the missions.. You just switched to a different guy somewhere in campaign to fly the current mission.
