Massive graphics corruption ATI 9.4 XP vs 9.5 W7

Recommended Posts

OK here's how Arma2 looked for me using 4890 with 9.4 cat on XP SP3

Checked temps by running FurMark - was fine. All settings were on normal, view distance 2km, postFX low. Memory default.

Installed W7RC1 64bit with Cat 9.5 - no bugs like that anymore. Now, I hate new things and don't upgrade OS just because it's what everyone talks about. In this case it's either driver or W7 or combination of both.

Anyone else seen these glitches?

I get the same thing with Catalyst 9.5s, temps are fine. Strange this is, I didn't have any problems with the drivers until I reinstalled them. Trying to find a possible fix for the whole '26fps' thing, I uninstalled the drivers, rebooted in safe mode and ran Driver Cleaner. Reinstalled the 9.5s, and now if I load up the editor and run around Chenarus - within 10 minutes there'll be corruption and artefacts all over the place.

And yes once again with the problem at the exit of with ATI, made to you very beautiful thing armed but it is not very professional for leaders.

ATI are I think sympatic with you nevertheless that twice made and not of anticipation on this kind of problem I find that damage.

But an high note nevertheless your work seems very very good. Go one nevertheless loves you so per moment I “hate youâ€.

I have the same problem with a Radeon X1950, Driver Version 8.591.0.0 / Catalyst which I just downloaded [XP Prof.]. I noticed that this effect will occur after some time. When I quit the game to the desktop with Alt-Tab and return to the game, everything is fine for a while. It doesn't seem to be a heat problem though (its about 72C). And still this effect is not very predictable because I played 1h straight without any effect.

i forgot to say, i also have 8gb of ram, which wa sblamed also, but 1 momen tin ran fine on my rig (in sig), then after driver updates it didnt... i could even play with all 8gb of ram at 1st, but when card drivers screwed up, never could again till i got nvidia. personally i think vista 64 bit and ATI for arma 1 was a no no (for me)

I'm posting this because in a day or two my HD 4890 will be here, but ATI/AMD supposedly will be putting out a new driver to fix this on June 10th.

Yep, it starts fine, but then after 10min or so would always get messed up... Which might lead one to believe to overheating. But it was not the case.

Under W7 and 9.5 - never happened yet.

Probably won't help those who run XP?

The parameter -winxp is of no help when you are already using XP and not Vista - and Yes, I tried it because I am desperate ;-) ... no change.

I had the same problems, I have a Ati Radeon HD 3870 (2) Video Card. I fixed the problem by lowering the settings in the Video options menu.

I wouldn't call that fixing the problem. Thats like driving slowly when you have a flat tire ;-) ... I have read some opinions that it's rather an Arma problem then a driver problem - can anybody copy that? Or if it's a driver problem: does someone know if there might be an older driver without this problem?

Thats how i have fixed many issues over the course of ARMA1, had to lower a certain option, and wait till a new driver or patch fixed it. Testing my quad 4870x2s today.

Well I have to say that I only have these problems with the Evolution Marines maps, If I play the Air Cav I don't have these "artefacts".

In ARMA1 I had the same problems. I think it is a ATI card or Catalyst driver problem.

Lets hope they fix it in ARMA2 so we can play this in full video card settings :bounce3:

Heh, mine was reversed - never problems like that in Evo, but some Air Cav servers. I think since view distance is set by server - might had something to do with it? Any way, I'm back to XP now, under W7 one of my SSD's got corrupted - had to reset BIOS. Will see how 9.5/XP behave...

Viewdistance and object detail etc can be set by the server so might be one of them. Just do a test with object detail and the "grass" detail (dont remember the name of that one).

Try adding -maxmem=1024 or even -maxmem=512 switch to Arma2 shortcut. When I had 8800GT on Arma1 - it helped me. It was a problem with nVidia drivers/GPUs, I wonder if it also works for ATI?
