What does ARMA 2 have that Operation Flashpoint 2 doesn't?

Recommended Posts

What I haven't seen in video for OFPDR:

- Vehicles, I have yet to see a proper in-game video of driving/utilize vehicles...where are the planes!?

- Destructible buildings.

There ain't any!

Are you serious? Even BF had that, looks more and more like a Bad Company clone, witch means there is no "Arma VS Operation Flashpoint 2" debate... I was hopeful for this game to be a real alternate to Arma in realism.

ArmA 2 has JIP

What is JIP?

JIP = Join In Progress... it allows for Persistent Battlefields - games that can run for days, weeks even... players may come and go, but the War goes on... even if noone's playing....

Well most of the MP games in ArmA 2 is JIP. Imagine not being able to join a game that started, you would have to wait in a lobby until the round is over.

And I am afraid with no JIP most rounds of games will be short, don't think you can have domination style gaming that takes sometime over 6 hrs.

If you like OFP/ArmA you choose ArmA 2, if you like Battlefield 2 you choose Dragon Rising.

Not really. Ever heard of Project Reality.

Hmmmmm OFP CWC didnt have JIP - and if I remember correctly there was a long debate over the pro's and con's of itwhen ARMA was announced - now maybe I haven't seen every second of footage of CM OFP;DR nor all the promo stuff for Arma II - but from what I have seen they both have pro's and con's and OFP:DR does look good ...does excite me - is it the game to end all games??? Prolly not .... but still looks like a damn good game!

There is no "acog" with FLIR built in, thats a specialised IR scope.

The non-selling point of ArmA2 atm is no console version. I know it is a non-issue with you guys. But still, CM, brings its game to ALL gamers, not exclusively to pc.

ArmA2 might be 100x better than OFPDR, that means 0.00 when it concernns 360/PS3 gamers.

(i would like ArmA2 to arrive on 360, and i HAVE played Arma2 demo on my crappy pc, and i LOVE the editor of ArmA2)

Some people should do their research, that is for console which is quite dissheartening...

Doing some research and I hear anywhere from 16 - 32 vs 16 -32 in PC and with that you command a squad or something so it's really 32*4 vs 32*4 potential.

Either way don't state certainties that haven't been officially announced and spout your biased OFPDR uneducated hate message...

I was actually dissapointed about this too when I heard the numbers even if it is 32 vs 32 max with a squad under you, kinda useless when they have this massive island to work with. We'll see

Well it wouldn't really be fun if they made it exactly like ArmA2 now would it. This is their attempt to make ArmA2 and it might not offer as great hitsystem, the fantastic physics and such as ArmA2 does - but it doesn't have to be the exact same game. We want a milsim. It doesn't have to act, look and behave like the only other milsim out there.

I was more excited about OFPDR than ArmA2 because I knew that the old OFP bugs and its weak points would still be present. Then I saw how arcade OFPDR looked and now I don't have very high expectations for it at all. I'll still buy it, in hope that OFPDR2 will be better if this one sucks (or is too COD-like which I fear). It might also force BIS to do something about their main problems, limitations and bugs that has been present since OFP and maybe inspire them to better menu-system or copy some great feature that OFPDR has.

Meanwhile, I'll continue playing ArmA2. Alone.

I don't know about bugs in OF. Seriously.

Maybe you left OF too early.

If you play OF today, especially with big mods like bwmod, you don't step upon any bugs - which is quite remarkable for software in general.

ArmA2 1.03 has so little bugs that I can do games of hours with 30 vs 30, once with 60 vs 60 multiplayers online in Berzerk. So why are you playing alone?

From what I've read, and correct me if I'm wrong, DR will have 4 player coop (that's what the 4 player multiplayer limit is), meaning they'll have 16 or 32 a side VS but coop will only allow 4 players max on both console and PC versions.

Imo the whole topic is childish anyway. It breathes an atmosphere of 'i am better than you' (exactly what my 6 year old son does)

I'm not gonna 'defend' DR ... i'm just going to buy it on 360 as i will buy ArmA2/360 if ever.

I would be pissed. DLC has really started to be abused. I smell lawsuit very, very soon if any and all companies continue to milk this. It is a terrible thing and I feel that EA, CM and other console companies have got to get a grip. They are charge happy.

I wouldn't worry too much for CM or EA or any of them, there's no possible lawsuit that anyone could hold against them in that circumstance, but unless these companies start charging less for the initial release and a small amount for DLC so it adds up to about retail price altogether (or maybe slightly more) then it's likely that it'll encourage more people to move to piracy, which is sad really.

It has a command system that hasn't changed since OFP :p.

I saw the radial command menu in the latest trailer and I was like "woah why doesn't Arma2 have that?". I also saw the building entry and CQB gameplay.

I think it's fair to say it can give you an indication though :)
