cross 1 Posted April 22, 2009 (edited) The forum rules are clear...it is upto the mods to exercise it to the extent they deem as appropriate. No need for drama.. 1) let the community know so that we can single out who does it. 2) solve it with moderators & the other party through PMs or own forums. It has nothing to do with BIS or anything that BIS has provided for $ or for free. http://forums.bistudio.com/misc.php?do=showrules §20) Posting addon/mod other content without permission For many years this community has been known as the premium addon/mod creating community, people work tirelessly and in great detail to create fantastic addons/mods/missions/campaigns to release for free so that everyone benefits, including Bohemia Interactive. There are a few simple rules in place to provide the respect to these creative people/groups that they deserve: The first and most fundamental rule is that you must seek permission to alter someone's work, to mirror it or use it in any way other than for personal use. No permission, no editing, no mirroring, no adding to your mod pack, no editing and sharing around your private squad, none of that is acceptable. Obviously we cannot unfortunately control what people do outside of these forums, however on these forums you must follow this rule, if a person/team post a thread to share an addon/mod using content from someone else without permission and we receive a complaint then the mod thread will be closed until the issue is resolved and the forum member(s) risks being permanently banned from these forums for taking someone's work without permission. This isn't just limited to re-using content in addons/mods/missions however, it's not acceptable to edit someone's work without permission and then to post screenshots of it on the forums (even if the edited addon/mod is purely for personal use), it's also not acceptable to edit someone's work, or use someone's work in any way that you don't have permission for and then to create videos which you post on these forums, doing any of the above without the permission of the original creators risks a permanent ban, for individuals, for whole mod teams or squads. Yoma 0 Posted April 22, 2009 Obviously BIS does what's within their powers to avoid addon makers's offspring to be abused. This thread raises 3 questions: -what are you frustrated about, what big abuse do you want fixed? -how would you propose BIS avoid abuses? (big cryptography stuff might kill off a lot of new addons/discourage new addonmakers and hamper the community in general) -how do other games handle this issue? (if at all) No i will not boycot Arma2 in any way as that would be shooting myself in the foot.
lwlooz 0 Posted April 22, 2009 (edited) Hello, Say what? I have huge respect of addon makers in general , and as far as the incident goes I feel sorry what happened to RKSL , but neither BIS or the community has to do anything here. It is a purely personal matter which I think can be far more attributed some background politics and personal feud from what I can read than it is a general problem. For that fact I can't remember one time where serious and respect parts of the community accepted or supported this type of bad spirited and in this case illegal behaviour. This is the internet with horrible people. And to think that you could make addons for a gaming community and protect your IP 100% in a semi-professional or professional way is a bit of a too optimistic way to look at it. Either your a hobbyist who is proud of his work and can accept some people doing horrible things or you are a profesional modeller. I hate to say this , but I figure the only way to fix this for the professionals involved in this and past incidents is to see if they can sell their stuff to BIS for the game. Binkowski 26 Posted April 22, 2009 BIS Made the game, therefore is sanctioned to anything that you produce. Read the MLOD License I highly doubt that the starter of this thread read the License agreement when he downloaded the BIS Sample MLOD's, if he even did. Anyway, what is the point of this? BIS Has every right to use community made mods and addons, they made the bloody game.

Placebo 29 Posted April 22, 2009 http://forums.bistudio.com/misc.php?do=showrules The truth is in there, not in the one-sided misquotings of certain aggrieved people. To say that we don't do anything about the issue is ludicrous and I find some of the accusations being thrown at me elsewhere insulting.
