Pyronick 21 Posted March 1, 2011 He just said that things are a fortune, and not only that some people can't afford the near future Sandy Bridge Processors by Intel, you may have unlimited pockets, but I sure as hell don't.The Sandy Bridge-EN should be in the 350-400 dollar range. Which is ~50-70 dollars more expensive. But I just read it was expected in Q4 2011...
Leon86 13 Posted March 1, 2011 I expect the cpu's to be slightly more expensive for the performance and the decent motherboards to cost about 80% more, just like 1156 vs 1366 is now.
bangtail 0 Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) If you are talking about the EE processors due in Q4, the price difference will be anything but slight compared to the 2600K for example. Maybe the quad variant will be cheap(ish), but I don't see the 6 or 8 cores being any cheaper than other EE CPUs. They always carry a huge premium. Leon86 13 Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) Yeah, I was talking about the normal cpu's like i7-860 vs i7-920. The sixcore 970 is 500 eu now, that used to be much more. I expect intel will have a semi-affordable sixcore on the new socket. Edited March 1, 2011 by Leon86
bangtail 0 Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) Oh they will do, especially with Bullsnoozer coming. I still think there should have been a six core with the initial SB offering but Intel is not following their conventional launch philosophy at the moment. Usually we get the high end chips simultaneously but we are going to wait almost a year for Socket R :( Edited March 1, 2011 by BangTail

rangerpl 13 Posted March 2, 2011 I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but I didn't want to start a new thread. ArmA 2, by default, only uses 1536MB of RAM. If I use maxmem, it's going to use 2047MB, right? I have 4GB RAM and find it frustrating when ArmA is lagging and memory isn't even 50% full...
Leon86 13 Posted March 2, 2011 I've tried lots of maxmem values with older arma versions, as far as I know it doesn't do anything.
cannonouscrash 12 Posted March 2, 2011 Im planning to upgrade my PC within the next few months. Things im set on is. Obsidian 700D Gigabyte P67 UD* i7-2600k Corsair XMS3 8gb Radeon 6950 2gb OCZ Vertex 3 SSD 120GB. Im wanting to watercool it, but im unsure about the waterblocks needed. I cant find any socket 1155 waterblocks. Or waterblocks for the 6950. I think im being daft somewhere along the line, Could any of you guys help me out with what blocks are compatible with both. thanks in advance. Jack
Leon86 13 Posted March 2, 2011 Socket 1155 is identical to 1156 with regards to cpu size and mounting points, any 1156 kit will do. Why do you want to watercool it and have you done it before?

MY current rig is watercooled. - Q9650 @ 3.6ghz I know the OC isnt that phenominal, My mobo bottlenecks the OC and i cant get any higher. But its an all in one. I still had to get my hands semi dirty, but im ready to go for the whole shabam. Triple radiator, High flow motor, and make it look 'pretty/sick/awesome/jawdroppinglystunning' so the 1156 socket fits, Do you know about the 6950? isnt it the same as 6970 with a different bios? (if bios is the name) Edited March 2, 2011 by CannonousCrash
matchy7 10 Posted March 2, 2011 hi is this an alrgiht set up for arma 2 oa and what results will i get? windows 7 32bit Intel dual core cpu Intel Pentium E5700 Processor 3.6ghz ati radeon 5770 2gb ram thanks very much Niall
Leon86 13 Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) is it a secondhand system? If it's a new oem system I think the better budget deals would have an AthlonIIx3 and 4GB ddr3. 5770 is a pretty good card for the price (dropped recently). matchy7 10 Posted March 2, 2011 its custom built cost me 350 quid in total
Leon86 13 Posted March 2, 2011 well if you already have the system you can simply try the demo
cannonouscrash 12 Posted March 2, 2011 its not here yet Hope for the best then lol, Your CPU speed is quite good and the card is decent as well. You should be fine with those specs

(if bios is the name) I dont know much about aftermarket gpu cooling. I do know the 6970 has additional vrm's, so it's not completely identical. I guess there's a good chance a 6970 block will fit, but I'd wait for someone else to find that out for you :)
