Knife in ArmA 2 ?

Recommended Posts

I'm all for a melee combat system (fists, clubs, bayonets, knives, swords...) IF DONE WELL !!!!

Its not really necessary for vanilla Arma, but could be useful for many situations and mods, while playing civilians or insurgents, serial killers, zombies, deer hunters, jedis etc... or even simple DM.

You could make a nice "Mount and Blade" mod... (actually better looking than M&B)

(Napoleonic, Middle Age etc.).

Then do Mods for Mount & Blade, or start up building games from scrach - both Cryengine and UT3 are free of charge for non-comercial use.

I'd just like to point something out- Normal infantry only gets basic training in the subject of melee combat but many special forces wouldn't hesitate going up and stabbing an enemy. Ever read Lone Survivor?

Ok guys trying to bring some calm in here :P

knives..meh not for it

throwing knives definately not. I have some experience with these weapons, i'm pretty accurate with them up to about 25ft..maybe 35 max! However as someone else posted unless you hit someone in a very specific place at exactly the right angle all you will do is a) piss the person off or b) causing them to scream in pain before dropping to the ground. How either of these would benefit a stealth mission is beyond me.

The only "accounts" i can think of in which throwing knives were actually used in combat aren't even real. I've seen training vids of guys doing it and i've seen brit commandos in ww2 movies throw their knives (one of which i own and is not all that handy to throw) but as far as common combat usage its definately out.

I hope all this talk of throwing knives doesn't damage the bayonet cause...

Motion captured bayonet thrust please BIS!

i wouldn't imagine so

a) they don't like it up 'em

and b) well just repeat a 15,000 times

also i'd rather charge someone with a bayonet than fight them with a throwing knife any day.

Never get close enough for a knife. Typical engagement distances doesn't allow it, and AI would never let you get that close without ruining the whole AI system. Would be better off with a silenced .cal 22 pistol with a much higher stealth factor.

Eh, once again the splinter cell fans come out of the woodwork. No, in any game carrying the moniker realistic combat should knives be implemented, an even bigger sin is to have them silent. Stealth kill is a concept that angers me, and something that I hate seeing in any game.

Bayonets on the other hand, for a noisey assault kill, that I will want to see. If I charge a position, and I have a choice of stabby or shooty, I'll save my bullets thanks. But no, please don't give us a sneaky lol kill button.

The problem is, even if they did make a knife, it is impossible to get close enough to an AI before he hears you, turns around and pours lead into your knife wielding body.

I know this sounds stupid but (here we go) IRL :j: try sneaking up to someone you know with combat gear without them hearing you.

Not guna happen lol

you should seriously read the forums rules:

§10) Do not dig up old threads

Threads older than 4 months should not be dug up unless something significant is being added. If in doubt as to what is "significant", contact a moderator and they will give you their opinion. As always old threads will remain open or be closed at the moderator's discretion. Digging up an old thread simply to ask "any news" is also not acceptable, PM the thread starter or mod leader to ask.
