Balck screen with HD4870

I just bought a hd4870 using catalyst 8.12 and vista 64 with 6Go of ram.

When i launch the game i get a black screen, the only work around is to launch the game in window mode

is it a problem related to my garphic card or a problem with arma and ati cards ?

or maybe its a problem with arma supporting max 4gm of ram.

start->run->msconfig->boot.ini->advanced options->maxmem=4000

i did a search before posting and found something in the wiki about a fix in 1.15 patch, i am already using 1.15 beta so obviously it's not fixed.

i have several 64bits apps uing more than 4Go for my work and i am not going to limit my comp to 4Go for a game.

any chance it gets fixed with 1.15 final patch ?

Well i have the same issue. It wasn't fixed in 1.15 beta. We just have to wait for another patch.

Workarounds: limit your memory usage or play in windowed mode.

It was suppose to be fixed in 1.15.

But in the 1.15 feedback thread 'Suma' did say they found another issue with it and had been sorted for the furture iirc?

yeah vista 64+ ATi +over 4g? of ram+ hd4870x2= black screen, 1.14 or 1.15, though the 4850s seem to work fine with the 1.15b, it fixed them... but the 4850 players i play with have 4gigs not 6gigs.

I think its the amount of vram on the card, most if not all 4850s are 512mb and most 4870s are 1g, and my 4870 X2s are 2g.

I  have to run in window and no CF..., but it still runs, limit the RAM to 3g very fastfast and can run CFX fullscreen.

ok i tried -maxmem=512 command of the wiki but it didn't fix the problem so it doesn't seem to be related to the 1Go of the card

i tried with 4Go of ram in my comp and no more black screen, but it was just for testing i need these 6Go of ram so i would appreciate to see this issue fixed in the next official patch.

Its most likely the Ram. I've had a 4870 running ArmA for a while now with no problems, I've heard more problems with increased Ram than 4870's.

Same problem, just installed the game after i formatted the pc a couple of months ago. havent played the game on a while.

but last time i had this, there was a patch that fixed it, worked like a charm. cant remember which patch tho. did the 1.14 bring the bug back? since it DID work a few patches back ago

I had nearly the same prob, black sceen then f***ed up menus that wouldnt play.

Was fine on my old 8800gts, as soon as i got an ati hd4870 it was fubar'd.

Tried most things mentioned in the vista thread months ago, no joy, so gave up.

Im on vista 32 btw, and 4gig mem.

Nah, still doesnt work for me in -window mode, if i add that to the shortcut i get the error Error creating Direct3D 9 Graphical engine

Updated DX9 and it still does it, if i remove the -window i just get the fuc*ed up menus again.

Ive tried reducing memory in msconfig, maxmem command, arma launcher in window mode and limited memory.

I just dont get why it wont work, Very frustrating

ok i just bought a GTX260+ and now it's working in fullscreen still with 8Go of ram under vista64...

So the problem was indeed something between my hd4870 and the ram.
