Aqu 0 Posted November 6, 2008 I have a problem that the very dark areas, especially black, shows transparent. In a tinted way, like looking through dark sunglasses. The darker the color, more transparent it is. I saved the texture as png in a paint program (gimp) and converted it into paa in Texture Viewer. The black areas do not look transparent in Gimp or Texture Viewer. The oddest part is that some polys of the object become invisible when looking through the black transparent part. You could think this is some sort of occlude thing, but the polys actually belong the same object/section (wing).
fabiantronc 0 Posted November 6, 2008 I have the same issue. I saved my images in .tga and then O2 convert it automaticly to .paa and some part looks like invisible. I think there is something with alpha channel or filter alpha.
Aqu 0 Posted November 6, 2008 Ok, found a fix. It seems if the PNG (and maybe targa too) used as the source has an alpha layer, it makes the texture semitransparent. It seems to happen even in the parts where it is not transparent (i.e how it is shown in paint programs). To fix that you have make sure you save it so that it doesn't have the alpha channel. At least that is one way to fix it.
DaSquade 0 Posted November 6, 2008 Remember all color textures need a prefix: _ca for gradient transparent textures (with an alpha layer) _co for pain textures or 50%-50% transparant textures.
vilas 478 Posted November 10, 2008 if you don't want alpha channel : - open TGA - delete ALL masks/alpha-layers/selections - save TGA and > PAA if you make PAA in Photoshop using plugin, sometimes it happens, thats why you must be sure to delete all selections/masks also you cannot use "smooth" mask, as it causes half-transparency thats why my texturers make texture in TGA and than it is turned into PAA when Topas was making textures in PAA in Photoshop, we sometimes had black-holes, half-transparent black tyres/machineguns, etc. please work in TGA and use BIS tools to convert, plugin is super, but has this bug of "self-creating-alpha"

I only used the PAA plugin a few times on my old XP setup and had no issues with it when using correct extensions.
max power 21 Posted November 10, 2008 If you save your targas with a 24 bit depth instead of 32, you should avoid the alpha channel.
