funnyguy1 0 Posted September 13, 2008 You have probably already heard about the novin's falcon controller, the funny looking thing that tries to replace your mouse or joystick, and "lets you experience true virtual touch unlike any controller in history ". Whatever, here's their site if you want more details. They added a pistol grip to the device, and guess what, ofp is on the soon-to-be-supported list. In the vid, the guy says "operation flashpoint", and the cover of CWC is shown, however, it's in the "highly anticipated" games list, together with left4dead, and it's hard to say if it's really gonna be CWC or ofp2... Pulverizer 1 Posted September 13, 2008 There's no way that thing will ever replace the mouse or joystick
Mr_Tea 0 Posted September 13, 2008 That thing is not even capable to simulate shooting with an pistol, and will for sure not replace any controller. It`s not even an nice try, just an attempt to make money of some kids that buy anything that will come out.
Blackhawk 0 Posted September 13, 2008 That looks....Bad...Anyway, There's no way CM are going to make it compatible with OPF2 as it's only for shooting pistols and not any other type of Firearm.

Second 0 Posted September 13, 2008 Uhuh! gotta buy it. What you think: can it be used other way around? I bet it can be!
funnyguy1 0 Posted September 13, 2008 There's no way CM are going to make it compatible with OPF2 as it's only for shooting pistols and not any other type of Firearm. Well, it's a game controller, so you can shoot whatever you want, or fight with a light saber, I don't know why this should be a pistol-only thing. Check out the half life 2 vid. And it is going to be supported either in ofp or ofp2. That's why I brought that up. At first, I didn't want to start the "will it work" debate, but I really don't understand those who say it's worst or better than a mouse, without even trying it. I mean, that was my first thought too, but if you think about it, a mouse isn't that good either when it comes to shooting, not to mention simulating anything... Pulverizer 1 Posted September 14, 2008 Mouse isn't that good for shooting? Hilarious. Should tell that to some pro gamer. Sure, it's not "realistic" but when it comes to any aiming and clicking kind of action, nothing comes close in accuracy and speed, not even a touchscreen. I don't need to test it to tell how slow and uncomfortable it is. Just look at it: bit like a joystick, only sideways, it's gonna be bad. I'm not gonna pay 189.99$ to prove something so obvious. At best, it could be fun for goofing around in single player until the novelty wears off.
Maddmatt 1 Posted September 14, 2008 I just had a look at their website and saw "their" game, XLR8 (accelerate). What a scam! That game isn't theirs, they took Xpand Rally, renamed it and changed the name and colour on the main menu. And now they convince people that it's a new game by them But it's the same game, same content, even the HUD is identical. For anyone interested, look up the game Xpand Rally and compare it to XLR8. In the video here the CEO even calls it "one of Novin's biggest games to come out". It was an awesome game that didn't do very well. Weird to see another company re-brand it and call it theirs. Edit: And you should be able to find Xpand Rally on Steam for a fraction of the price.

Of course it's less accurate, it has a bloody recoil after all! And that's exactly why it's cooler than a mouse. Besides, we're talking about ofp/arma/ofp2 here, not a CS-like fast-paced shoters. It's obvious nobody would take it to a CS lan party, cause I would suck compared to a mouse, especially in the hands of a 13year old CS addict. (My little bro plays it, so I have a chance to play against guys in his age from time to time, and I know from my own experience that they're pretty buletproof compared to me). You have a responsibility of showing your brother the light of OFP/ArmA but I suppose you already tried  On topic: I dont know just looking at the way they are holding it makes me feel uncomfortable but i suppose i need to experience it before i judge (I dont even know what Wii feels like  ) But if it is indeed the way of the future than there bound to be other similar products in the works. Second 0 Posted September 14, 2008 I've been trying to mix my optical mouse and airsoft AK47 together to make the [commercial] ULTIMATE SHOOTER CONTOLLER -Aim what you intend to shoot -pull trigger correctly (no tapping!!!! -Handle your keyboard with toes -Designed by military mastterminnd [/commercial] ... But this far i haven't been succesful. However still i don't have slightest glue how that red light in mouse works. I suppose it needs to be much stronger to get sighnel from wall several meters away... 500 W Halogen light might do it, no?

funnyguy1 0 Posted September 15, 2008 I've been trying to mix my optical mouse and airsoft AK47 together to make the Homemade lasershot? People are making miracles with wii controllers, so a gas powered ASG with blowback, few of those little wii thingies or freetrack, a large screen and lot of free time would probably be enough to create something like that. edit: in fact, just one LED at the end of the barrel would be enough (?). mr burns 132 Posted September 18, 2008 edit: in fact, just one LED at the end of the barrel would be enough (?). Should work .. thought about that too, just with a trackIR. The hard part though would be re-programming the software to use the signal on the gun and not the freelook head movement. Kegetys pbly would accomplish that in a matter of minutes

Sorry for late reply: Problem is that... Well i don't have idea how optical mouse works actually...  But idea is with mouse and AK47 attachment that it can "read" it's movement from wall several meters away. Right now if i lift mouse up from mouse pad just little bit it doesnt' respond into movement anymore. That is basically only problem i'm having (yeah sure  ). I don't see how led in barrel makes it any better?
gsleighter 0 Posted September 19, 2008 @ second The wii mote is an IR sensor that picks up energy from the bar by your TV. So, using a wii mote to receive IR light from one or two LED's from the rifle, you could use it to aim in a game. Are you actually serious, BTW?
funnyguy1 0 Posted September 19, 2008 I don't see how led in barrel makes it any better? Don't get me wrong, but imho you've chosen the worst possible scenario. The wiimote, or track ir/freetrack based system would be much more efficient and easier to do. You have a webcam at the top of your screen, then you attach a single LED at the end of bb gun's barrel. Webcam reads the LED's light, just like track-ir, and you can aim. Now you need a spare mouse you could smash and somehow place the RMB behind the trigger and you're ready to go. More or less like the lasershot.
Second 0 Posted September 20, 2008 I. do. not. have. webcam. in. my. monitor... blasted. However i'm bit sceptical that webcam would work. It could, but my distance to monitor should remain fixed. As otherwise my AK's ironsight and game's ironsight becomes unsyncroniced (my distance to monitor changes). That is one of the biggest possible problem -> Is it possible to keep both ironsights "syncroniced" together for even minutes. As if not, then it's useless. Pulverizer 1 Posted September 20, 2008 Just duct tape a NES Zapper along the barrel. Heh, not really. Something like the light pen for C64 would be better. http://www.c64-wiki.com/index.php/Light_pen[/url])]A light pen is a pen-shaped input device which connects to a compatible computer (such as the C-64): The device contains a light sensor which, when pointed at a cathode ray tube screen, generates a signal each time the electron beam raster passes by the spot the pen is pointing at. The VIC-II accepts this signal, generates the X and Y coordinates in a pair of registers, and, if desired, causes an interrupt to the CPU every time new coordinates are reported. As otherwise my AK's ironsight and game's ironsight becomes unsyncroniced (my distance to monitor changes). Depends from the FOV. Track-ir and wiimote have better fov than webcams I suppose. The distance shouldn't be a problem if you turn off the axis (Z?) responsible for zooming in and out. When it comes to wiimote there shouldn't be any problems with the distance either as you can sit/stand in front of your tv.

gsleighter 0 Posted September 28, 2008 Quote[/b] ]Unlike a light gun that senses light from a television screen, the Wii Remote senses light from the console's Sensor Bar (model number RVL-014), which allows consistent usage regardless of a television's type or size. The Sensor Bar is about 20 cm (8 in) long and features ten infrared LEDs, five at each end of the bar[33] The LEDs farthest away from the center are pointed slightly away from the center, the LEDs closest to the center are pointed slightly inwards, while the rest are pointed straight forward. The Sensor Bar's cable is 353 cm (11 ft 7 in) in length. The bar may be placed above or below the television, and should be centered. If placed above, the sensor should be in line with the front of the television, and if placed below, should be in line with the front of the surface the television is placed on. It is not necessary to point directly at the Sensor Bar, but pointing significantly away from the bar will disrupt position-sensing ability due to the limited viewing angle of the Wii Remote. From the wiki article on Wii Motes. So, a hat with a couple of LED's could be detected by the wii mote, or a rubber duck M16 with a couple of LEDs on it. mr burns 132 Posted October 3, 2008 This got me curious, so now im sitting on a spanking new wiimote, a bluetooth dongle and a sensor bar. After several hours of trial&error it finally works! Pointing the controller at your screen to move the mouse button is kinda fun, also the gyrometric (?) stuff and anything else works. Just in games it´s not as simple. In the menus everythings fine, but ingame becomes an incredible looking up&down loop. WiiMote controlled ArmA - using glovePIE v030´s standard IRmouse script: http://dl1.armed-assault.de/team/burns/wiimote_test-arma.avi (25mb) Seems the controls are way too sensitive, or it´s something else i cannot make up anymore after messing around with this stuff for almost the whole day  edit:
