MehMan 0 Posted August 25, 2008 No no, modders charge for addons.
Shashman 0 Posted August 25, 2008 they charge for addons? what incredibly lame precedent they are setting for the modding community.consumerist mindset should never have entered into the bright realm of enthusiastic modders that work for FREE. also fsx has absolutely horrible optimization Did you pay for Queen's Gambit? Did you pay for Resistance? Haven't you ever paid for an addon? Yes, there are a lot of payware addons for FS2004 and FSX, but there are HEAPS more freeware addons available. Just take a look at the file library on avsim.com or flightsim.com. I have spent hours upon hours browsing those sites. I have an addon for every major (and not so major) airport of the world installed. I can fly whatever aircraft I can imagine, in the colours of whatever carrier I want. There are freeware addons released literally every day for FS2004 and FSX. Half the time I've ever spent (if not more) on FS2004 has been spent installing addons and customising the sim. The quality of addons available for FS2004 far surpasses anything you can find for ArmA. My FS2004 folder weighs in at just over 100GB. Please, by all means, show me another game which can boast that So before you start ranting and raving about something you have no clue about, stop and think before you make yourself look like a complete fool. Oh and btw, I find it hilarious that you should criticize FSX's optmization in an ArmA forum
MehMan 0 Posted August 25, 2008 The quality of addons available for FS2004 far surpasses anything you can find for ArmA. The ArmA/OFP community isn't exactly trying to set new art standards but I do believe we can handle ourselves to holy FS standards. Not everybody though, but having such an arse forward view on this community isn't really welcomed by me so you can do your best and stuff it.
Shashman 0 Posted August 25, 2008 *cough*Join date*cough* There's a difference between ArmA itself, and the community. I have lost respect for ArmA, but that doesn't mean the I feel the same about the BIS community (what's left of it anyway). Now jog on
ingram 258 Posted August 25, 2008 Well it is hard do compare the game itself and community. Ok end of offtopic. A friend of my just finnished his another classic polish airplane: RWD-14b Czapla. It is made with tools for FSX so there aren't any problems with renders. I can say that Czapla is the one of his best addons.

Journeyman 0 Posted August 25, 2008 I've took some photos while I was testing Abacus's Airbus A380 pack.Well I can say that I expected a much better quality from payware addon. The model and textures aren't bad but they are not as great as the machines made by CLS. I agree with that statement! I purchased Abacus' A380 pack a few weeks back and was not at all impressed! Firstly NO textures would show up when I had DX10 preview option enabled. Without DX10 enabled you get textures and sounds but no flexing wings and a crapy looking flaps anim not much else, apart from far too many variants of the same crappy model! I'll stick with freeware from now on! Â
Shashman 0 Posted August 26, 2008 To be honest, Abacus' stuff isn't known for its quality. I still think Overland's A380 is the best one available. P.S. That's a very nice looking little bird, Ingram
ingram 258 Posted August 26, 2008 And it works with DX10 Â Red kite you don't have to totally stay with freeware's bacause of Abacus. There are a lots of nice paywares like CLS A310-300, A330 A340, A300-600, B747-200 and 300, DC10 packs or Aerosoft Hughes H1-B, Overlands A380 etc.

Journeyman 0 Posted August 26, 2008 And it works with DX10 Â When I tried it with DX10 I had no textures ... Just pure white A380's! I had to disable DX10 preview for the textures to show. Are you using Windows Vista SP2? Also where can I find the Overlands A380?
Shashman 0 Posted August 26, 2008 In Overland's Airbus package, which I posted a link to a few posts back And yeah I have the Maddog (both Flight1's Super 80 and Lago's Maddog). Both are very realistic representations of the aircraft, both visually and systems. A few more packages, if you're into 'hardcore' representations, worth checking out are Digital Aviation's Fokker 70/100, Flight1 DC-9-30 Iron Knuckles and the PMDG packages (except the B1900s which are much simplified sims, but still excellent quality)
ingram 258 Posted August 27, 2008 Are there any possible skins able to download for Overland planes? The 747-400's from my Boeing pack are really great but I miss the KLM and ANA airlines Or maby I'll wait for my next payday and buy Overland Japan airlines pack than search for freeware's
Infam0us 10 Posted August 27, 2008 Sorry to somewhat derail this thread but what do you do in flight sim. Just fly aircraft around a virtual world? Do you have other planes flying around at the same time? Looks quite interesting from these screenshots ...
chris330 0 Posted August 27, 2008 There's a major network called VATSIM which basically takes your MS flightsim and turns it into an MMOG. Suddenly you're sharing the environment with thousands of other other online players and you have to use real charts to navigate and plan your flight and approaches etc... Planning a fresh route can take many hours when you account for getting charts and setting everything up and that's before you even take off. It's really good. *Edit* Some great pics in this thread. I fired up MS FS2002 again recently and in the last few days managed to consistently land the 747 with no autopilot functions at all and with full realism settings. Some wonder what the thrill of flying a liner from A to B is, but if they knew how complex it really is to do it right - which you have to online - then I'm sure they'd understand the appeal. There's so much more to it than initially meets the eye and it's far harder than flying a combat aircraft due to the immense vehicle size and restrictions placed on speed, altitude and approach/departure routes and procedures. It's fantastic stuff!
ingram 258 Posted August 27, 2008 Yay! Today is a great day because I've got my package with PMDG 747 First downloaded livery. Of course ANA!
chris330 0 Posted August 27, 2008 Looks spectacular! Anyone else think that the 747 looks a bit loike a swan in a weird way when viewed from the perspective of the second pic? Weird I know there's no obvious physical similarity but maybe it's the way the nose juts out from the cockpit area
Shashman 0 Posted August 28, 2008 Totally agree. Even though it's huge, it really looks graceful and elegant (hence the nickname, Queen of the Skies) @ Ingram: Are you kidding me? I have...*counts* .............. *10 minutes later* OK... Overland 737-700 repaints = Continental, EasyJet, Copa, Virgin Blue, ANA (Golden livery), ANA, Varig Overland 737-800 = Alaska, Delta, Ryanair 'Latehansa', KLM, Varig, Copa, Continental Overland 737-900 = KLM NC, KLM NOC Overland 747-400 = AirBridgeCargo, ANA 'Pokemon', ANA 'Yokoso! Japan', ANA, Northwest, Cathay Pacific, Cathay Pacific 'Asia's World City', Singapore Airlines NC, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic 'Birthday Girl', KLM OC, KLM Asia, KLM NC Overland 767-300 = Alitalia, Hawaiian, Varig, British Airways, American Airlines, Delta NNC, United 'Star Alliance', Air Canada OC, UPS Overland 777-200 = American Airlines, United OC, Varig Overland 777-200ER = Continental, Emirates, KLM, United NC, Delta, Alitalia Overland 777-300 = ANA Overland 777-300ER = Emirates, Cathay Pacific 'Asia's World City' Those are all the 3rd party repaints I have, and that's just for the Boeing collection. You'll notice that the same airlines are repeated in those lists. That's because they're the airlines covered by simairlines.net (the VA I'm a pilot for), and yeah ANA is one of them . I have countless more for my Overland Airbuses too. If you want an idea of how many downloadable repaints are available for their aircraft, go to www.avsim.com and search for 'Overland' or 'SMS' in the FS2004 aircraft repaints section of the file library. Oh and btw, unfortunately their Japanese Airlines package is no longer available. Trust me, I've searched and searched @chris330: For me the main attraction of FS2004 is the variety and quality of airports and aircraft available for free ( I have an addon for pretty much any major airport you can think of ). Just like what attracted me to OFP, it's the free user created addons which keep the game alive and interesting, day in, day out. Of course the satisfaction of navigating around the world, performing perfect landings with all sorts of aircraft (I've flown most commercial aircraft, from the Beechcraft 1900 to the Antonov AN-225) is great too! Oh and it definitely helps if you're an aviation fanatic. I'll gladly sit there, idling by the runway watching the AI traffic come and go
ingram 258 Posted August 28, 2008 I've found many liveries for Overland planes but I forgot to mention it in my previous post. Well I must say that the planes are really great but I think that 747's from PMDG are a lot better. Although the A380 from Overland is really great and I've found even my favourite A340-600 ------- Polish coast guard in year 2012 cheers for the skin Black Shark Pika Pika (lol)
Shashman 0 Posted August 28, 2008 The PMDG 747 is a totally different type of addon. It's the most realistic commercially available 747 simulator there is. I reckon if you can fly that, you shouldn't have too much trouble flying the real thing. Nice shots, but a Polish Coast Guard KA-50? Isn't that like having a police Abrams?
ingram 258 Posted August 28, 2008 Haha  That would be a great one! Don't know, I've just found this texture on AVSIM Indeed PMDG 747 is very realistic. The best moment was yesterday when in height of more than 40 000 meters I pulled nose too much and my engines turned off. wow The adrenaline was big but I turned them again. The best is that for 1,5 minute it was the biggest glider of the world
