zopzodeman 2 Posted May 19, 2008 Hi Build me a new Pc to be a little more up-to-date on the Hardware side.I installed ARMA an QG,ran it and it seems my pc is adequate enough for High or very High settings.Played it for about 3-4 minutes and BAM! screen froze...with sound looping. Was able to shut down ARMA over the Task-manager.Next thing i did was to look for updates on BIOS,Soundcard drivers,Chipset driver and Graphic driver. Next test run , screen froze again ,but this time the game appeared to run along without updating the screen,as my AI was doing as told and eventually calling out :"waiting". Then i thought i should try version 1.12 beta and installed this...same effect, but sometimes the screen would show what was looking like i think are texture maps, sometimes garbled the menu text and then screen freezes completely.Sometimes a Task-switch would cure the problem for the next 2-3 minutes, but then the problem pops up again. I tried other things like maxmem=512,lower graphic settings,EAX on and off,HW acceleration sound on and off and so on...no effect on described problem.I even tested the PCI-E soundcard Soundmax HD that came with the mobo.No overclocking done. So where do you think my problem is? System specs as follows: Intel Core 2 Duo E 8400 @ 3 GHz,1333 FSB Asus Maximus Formula(BIOS ver.1201) ,X38 Chipset (driver version 8.3.0.1011) 4 Gig RAM ( Corsair DDR2/800 DHX2 @ 4-4-4-12) Gainward GeForce 8800 GT Golden Sample 512 MB(driver 175.16) Soundblaster X-Fi (driver 6.0.1.1304) using Inspire T7900 7.1 system Windows XP Pro SP2 Direct X 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

ArmaVidz 0 Posted May 19, 2008 Did you by chance install the GRID demo? After I installed the GRID demo my computer would lockup and freeze on every game including COD4 and Armed Assault, as well itself, GRID. I tried updating video drivers and DirectX but nothing helped. I am restoring my gaming computer as I type...
rowdied 44 Posted May 20, 2008 I didn't think Arma would work with 4 gigs of ram. Could that be the problem? Did you try it with 3 gigs enabled and not 4? That is work with 4 gigs under winxp.

Sorry...no effect setting graphic driver to pre-rendered frames to 2...and openal was already installed...reinstalling didnt help either.... Exactly the same problem here but when the freezing happens, the complete system is to say: down. Nothing reacts. How long does it take for you till the freezing arrives? I usually play 10-15 minutes to get one

Exactly the same problem here but when the freezing happens, the complete system is to say: down. Nothing reacts. How long does it take for you till the freezing arrives? I usually play 10-15 minutes to get one It takes about 5 minutes...i start the editor, jump in a Blackhawk as passenger,my ai is ordered to fly to the second (grass)airfield from paraiso...and on approximately half way the crash occurs.... Other thing i noticed is that if i let the game run in this frozen mode the pc will eventually completely freeze and i have to hard-reset. Someone with other ideas here to help? I tested more of my other games...all seem to run flawlessly...could this issue come from the relatively new E8400? System overheating is also none of a problem...CPU 47 °C,Board 47°C, GF 70 °C (which is way in the green bar in the Expertool). My harddisk setup as RAID 0 should cause no problems? Any of the devs own a 45nm Chip and having no problems? On my old PC ARMA would run fine...(P4 3GHz,1 Gig ddr400,GF 7800 GS+AGP)... UPDATE: Just installed patch 1.14....same effect

zopzodeman 2 Posted June 11, 2008 OK i think i found the problem...i changed my 8800 gt gs for a friends 8500 gt...and i i have ZERO problems with that card...so either Nvidia sells shit or Gainward....
gunterlund 0 Posted June 14, 2008 Try setting your video settings to default. Then start tweeking. I had the same problem with system freeze til I did this. Also try setting all graphics to low then start working them up. I read the most important item is to have textures set to normal.

The exact same thing happend to me with a 10 month old MSI 7900GS. I recently "switched side" to ATI.
oktane 0 Posted June 17, 2008 See here: http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....1258499 These all seem to be related to the recent drivers or GPU's.
-)rStrangelove 0 Posted June 17, 2008 Got the problem too (XP SP2, 8800 GT, 2 GBRam), but i always can get back into the game after 30secs by ALT-TABbing out of ArmA to desktop and back. My gfx are flickering, freeze, sound is looping, but game still runs after returning. And runs quite well btw - i had 2 freezes in an hour or so, after that i played along some more hours and it never happened again! I never even restarted windows or ArmA! With ProcessExplorer (SysInternals) i could see system info from 12minutes ago and it showed ArmA.exe was using a lot of CPU power, then gets back to normal. (the delay until the game recovers could be linked to the power of your cpu, so on single core pcs it could take longer - i got a dual core and it takes about 30secs) I suspect video drivers tbh. Had a 8800GTS before my GT and it never happened this way. (just solid crashes lol) Also: Rainbow6 Vegas II really fucked up my PC. Dunno why but since i threw PunkbusterB out of my win services, my PC is more stable than before. Idiotic anti cheater tools! Â
trooper_ryan 0 Posted June 18, 2008 I used to get this same problem on XP with 8800GTS 312Mb @ 1650x1024 or similar resolution. Only if I alt+tabbed out quickly when the looping/freeze began could I avert a full system hang. I eventually bit the bullet and dropped down a resolution to 1440x990 - never get the problem again. I suspect the graphics card + drivers were just struggling to keep up..?
Guest Karton Posted July 29, 2008 I have the same problem like trooper_ryan. In my case, after return to the game there are ocassionaly some artifacts. I have 8800GT by Asus, proc by Intel, 2GB RAM, and mobo p5kc by Asus. I've changed my card to anotrher one in my seller (the same type), but there is no difference. I've investigate this problem hard, and there is no solution. Many people have this problem (and like me with with other games too), but there is no common features. I've found that even old nVidia card have the same kind of crashes. After first crash i can play then even 10 hours without problems. My system (winXP) indicates that there is problem with nv.dll file and "infinite loop". I've tried many test, but somewhere i've found that this problem occurs only with game who uses not only GPU but CPU hardly. I'm going to change my 8800GT to something else. I see that this is only salvation.
