Solomani 0 Posted April 30, 2008 I have been working on a little something for the community. This is my first attempt at creating an addon. Features: A-10A CAS:       2 LAU-130/A 19 Round rocket launchers (imported from AH-1Z)       10 Mk82 with Mk82 triple rail       Ripple counts 1, 2, and 4 (.01 sec delay) OA-10A FAC:       4 LAU-131 7 Round FFAR - armed with WP smoke rockets       Common launcher rails removed Textures:       JAWS paint scheme for A-10A CAS HUD/Instruments:       Removed compass HUD       Removed external lock (white box/diamond)       Removed speed/alt/armor/fuel from upper left (unit info area)       Changed HUD AGL to English (feet)       Changed pilot field of view to 0.6 (closer)       Mk82 has IR lock (to simulate CCIP)       Raised gunsights to .01 (was .07)       Fixed flight panel speedometer to read knots       Fixed gear lock light (daytime) - trade off; loss of indicator at night Future Plans:      Integrate CEX information into A-10 to provide air support via CEX/UA.      Provide HUD symbology for primary ground targets. The O/A-10A addon can be found here: http://www.thechainofcommand.net/downloads/zips/coc_a10_Beta_v0.1.zip Enjoy!

LFO 0 Posted April 30, 2008 cool idea, looking forward to test! a version with triple-rail mavericks and/or the standard bis paintjob would be nice. not exactly cas, but badly needed imo.

-HUNTER- 1 Posted April 30, 2008 Quote[/b] ] 4 LAU-131 7 Round FFAR - armed with WP smoke rockets Do they only smoke or is it actually usable as weapon? I mean with the Whiskey Papa and all it would surely F830 up infantry.
miles teg 1 Posted May 1, 2008 Yeah WP rockets, arty shells, and grenades have very nasty effects on human skin and lungs. However that is difficult to simulate. However they may have some fragmentation properties as well. If memory serves correctly, I seem to remember in the Army there being one type of WP grenade that also was a fragmentation grenade. Since, WP rockets are used to mark the enemy, seems logical that they would have fragmentation properties. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
Solomani 0 Posted May 1, 2008 Â Since, WP rockets are used to mark the enemy, seems logical that they would have fragmentation properties. Â Â As Miles Teg noted, the WP rockets are used for marking targets. The WP rockets are modified FFAR rockets with reduced damage. Future versions of this addon will incorporate CEX target information. FO's, fire control centers, and unit commanders will be able to call in air support. This will give rise to a real FAC role. Target information will be transfered to the OA-10A in the form of a waypoint diamond in the HUD (just like real Hawgs). The FAC aircraft can then mark targets to help the CAS aircraft. Target uplink data will also be available to the CAS A-10A.
miles teg 1 Posted May 1, 2008 Sounds awesome. The only problem I have is with that pokadotted paint job on the regular A-10. Is that a real cammo paint job? I've never seen A-10's looking like that. I personally think that another texture should perhaps be used if that is not an actual cammo pattern used. It looks more like someone just stuck the BIS textures into photoshop and put random gobs of cammo colors all over the original textures. It really ruins anotherwise excellent addon with very nice custom animations and weapons. The other small knitpick is the sound of the Avenger cannon. It sounds like an elephant farting in real life....its a very recognizable sound that sounds entirely different from the current cannon sound. The sound doesn't kill the addon, but is just something that could be improved. Aside from that, you did a really excellent job on the plane. Alex72 1 Posted May 1, 2008 Great A10s. Thanks for that mate. EDIT: Agreed on the GAU sound. Classnames found. Regards Alex
popcorn 0 Posted May 1, 2008 About the camo I've seen it before, but I don't think it's used too often. Edit: It would be cool if we could have a targeting pod. You can probably use the gunner sight from the AH-1 Cobra. It would be cool to track targets and then destroy them
Alex72 1 Posted May 1, 2008 Check this link for the camo. Think this is the reference camo. Its more of irregular spots than round ones and in these photos, spots on the conventional grey. Bottom of the page. http://www.clubhyper.com/reference/a10ajawsschemesdb_1.htm Two questions: 1. The FAC version dont use tracers. Is it supposed to be like that, just wondering so theres nothing wrong with my mods etc. 2. The spread of the GAU cannon seems to be bigger than BIS/other versions. They shoot basically in a straight line and thus easier to quickly disable tanks.
M.Andersson(SWE) 4 Posted May 1, 2008 This is REALLY nice... Too bad its soo slooooooow... Is the A10 infact that slow speed....?!?!?
Solomani 0 Posted May 1, 2008 Actually, I used this page for reference: http://www.clubhyper.com/reference/a10ajawsschemesdb_3.htm The GAU-8/A was configured from the BI sample model configs. I only changed the display name. I will take a look at the dispersion and tracer settings and compare them with the stock A-10. And yes, the Hawg is that slow. Daniel 0 Posted May 1, 2008 Yep, if you want a really fast jet to go in and hit something really fast and get out again, you use a fast jet. If however, you want something that's actually slow enough to see its target... Â
miles teg 1 Posted May 1, 2008 Ah ok...I had thought JAWS was the original texture artist or something. Â Probably the reason why I've never seen that paint scheme is because it was likely used only during the 70's-early 80's period. Â I could be wrong though. Â At any rate, it would be nice to see one version with the standard paint scheme currently used just so that it looks accurate for modern missions. Â But that's your decision to make. Â I look forward to any new versions that you make of this great addon. Â Someone mentioned an issue with the speed: About the speed...yeah they really do fly quite slow when doing an attack run. I used to watch them doing training at Ft. Leanordwood. Those pilots are insane as far as how low they fly... probably one reason why they have to fly slow. It's a really awesome sight seeing them in action. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
Alex72 1 Posted May 1, 2008 Actually, I used this page for reference:http://www.clubhyper.com/reference/a10ajawsschemesdb_3.htm Ah ok. It really is a cool paint job for sure. Looks great with the green Mk's with the yellow tips Again, nice work and thanks.
miles teg 1 Posted May 2, 2008 I agree! We've been needing some regular ol' school bombs for some time now. Good to finally see some in the game. I've yet to test if the AI use them accurately however. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
Uziyahu--IDF 0 Posted May 4, 2008 You DO get a bit of dispersion on a strafing run. From video I've seen, probably filmed in Alaska, I'd say it was at least 2 Stryker lengths wide at its striking distance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Iz5MwPsfyo The "hawg" has to be one of the most fun jets to fly, I'm guessing.
